The six collections of 'Vierstimmige Motetten und Arien' published by Johann Adam Hiller offer a selection of motets, mostly from the second half of the 18th century. They show us the products of a new age of achievement in which the motet was again able to flourish after this genre had led only a shadowlike existence for more than a century. The editor of those collections, Johann Adam Hiller, was active as a composer of Singspie, editor of various musical periodicals, leader of the Gewandhaus concerts, University Director of Music, musical director of the Neukirche, and finally, from 1789, Thomaskantor in Leipzig. Upon Hiller's assumption of the office of Thomaskantor theolder motets were replaced in Leipzig church services by contemporary compositions. Printed texts which have been preserved show that Hiller's collections were used widely. Although the English madrigal has been fairly described by John Rutter as a completed historical form, its younger sibling the partsong still flourishes in the hands of sympathetic composers like Edmund Jolliffe, who can clothe secular texts with music a cappella that fits their sentiments like a glove. In fact John Donne 's verse, though of a later period, receives a setting that might even be described as madrigalean in its sensitive response to verbal rhythm and feeling. And for anyone who treasures the heritage of music for chorus by English composers such as Walton and Britten, and indeed Rutter himself, Jolliffe 's command of a tonal idiom that isrich in sensuous detail yet also broadly appealing is an additional pleasure./ Feuillet / SATB a Cappella

Dulce Jesus Mío (Mon Doux Jésus) est l'un des très rares exemples d'oeuvre polyphonique a cappella des Archives de Chiquitos (XVIIe-XVIIIe s., Concepción, Bolivie) - oeuvre religieuse, elle fut certainement écrite par un indien (élève des maîtres jésuites) et elle possède un texte autant en espagnol qu'en chiquitano (dialecte commun aux diverses ethnies qui vécurent ensemble dans les Missions des Jésuites).
