To every pupil, the first concert is a special experience. The period of intensive preparation, the mixture of trepidation and joyful anticipation, the concentration during the performance, the applause of the audience and the pride after the successful performance. Such impressions will all stick in the pupil's mind and quite often influence his or her entire future development. The choice of the 'right' performance piece is of vital importance: It should be neither too long nor too short, make a strong impression and give great pleasure in practising. The edition Mein erstes Konzert contains 23 easy pieces for clarinet and piano for music lessons and first auditions. The selection of the original works invites the performer on a trip through various music epochs - starting from classical via Romantic to contemporary music. Further highlights are pieces from the areas of klezmer, jazz, rock and pop music. Most pieces can be played after 1-2 years of music lessons. The first pieces in this volume are exclusively written in the low register - without overblowing.Approaching the works is made easier by the enclosed CD which contains all pieces as a demo version and as a play-along version with just piano accompaniment. / Clarinette Et Piano

With Vigour2. Free and Enigmatic3. CalmoThere is usually some sort of extra-musicalstarting point for my pieces and for the Clarinet Concerto this was ‘The Cracked Bell’ by Baudelaire. In a short space of time the work seemed to take over and move further away the original stimulus with the character andinteractive roles of the soloist and ensemble were suggested by the wintry evocative atmosphere of the poem. The piece opens with declamatory cadenza-like passages in the clarinet that are in turn commented on by theensemble. A more playful section where the clarinet line is very virtuosic leads to a long gently-unfolding melody in the ensemble that begins in the depths of the bass register and gradually gets much higher. Virtuosicclarinet lines interject against the accompaniment and both pursue their own course until culminating in a high impassioned melody for the clarinet coloured by fast-moving passage work in the higher registers of ensemble. Themovement ends with the ‘call and response’ lines of its opening. The second movement opens with an extended solo for the clarinet in its haunting chalumeau register. With each rising phrase the clarinet line gets higheruntil the ensemble enters in unison. The movement becomes much faster and energetic from this point with brisk fleeting lines for soloist and ensemble. The third movement is the most reflective of the three. It opens witha flute solo leading to the solo clarinet line and makes much of the poignant singing style which is so characteristic of the instrument. A melancholy falling passage in the ensemble becomes a recurring feature before the

This is an updated edition of Francis Poulenc's 1962 work Sonata For Clarinet And Piano edited by Millan Sachania. Featuring the full score and separate Clarinet part this exclusive editionalso includes a download card giving you instant online access to demonstration and accompaniment tracks. Originally completed in 1962 Poulenc tragically passed away before it could bedefinitively engraved leaving behind a work with a number of ambiguous notational marks that resulted in an incomplete first edition published just a year later. A number of revisions have taken place but this expertly editedby Millan Sachania aims to provide a playable legible precise and authoritative score that reflect closest Poulenc's intentions. This new edition includes accidentals that may havebeen intended by Poulenc within square brackets as well as cautionary accidentals and the deletion of redundant accidentals. Other amendments like the redistribution of notes between the Piano staves extendingslurs so as to incorporate second or final tied notes in contrast to the previous edition. At all points Sachania has aimed to reproduce an authoritative and accurate score that is at once playable and a reflection ofwhat Poulenc himself may have intended. What makes this edition of Sonata For Clarinet And Piano really special is the unique download card that provides exclusive onlineaccess to demonstration and accompaniment audio tracks. Professionally-recorded by renowned clarinettist Joy Farrall and pianist Huw Watkins the demonstration track allows you to hear exactly how the piece as a whole shouldsound before the independent Piano-only track lets you take the place of the clarinettist in your very own performance. Composed by Pierre Gabaye Sonatina is a piece for Bb Clarinet and Piano lasting 12 minutes. Divided into three distinctive parts this piece is rated as difficult and can be played by advanced players and above levels. The first part Allegro (4/4 tempo: 120-126) is really energetic as a start evolved shortly after between slower and faster sections. The second part slower (Largo) starts with the Piano on its own for two measures. This part is strongly influenced by Jazz and features long Clarinet lines supported by a rich Piano accompaniment. Finally the third part is really fast (Prestissimo) and displays a Piano more present slightly taking over the Clarinet. This really melodious piece is perfect to be played in contests or for a recital.

14 Pieces From 4 Centuries.

Barenreiter Urtext Edition of Brahms' Sonatas In F Minor And E-Flat Op.120 for Clarinet and Piano.Features:A pioneering Urtext edition with an extensive Performance Practice CommentaryFor further information on Romantic performance practice we recommend the text booklet: ?Performance Practices in Johannes Brahms? Chamber Music? BA 9600Brahms had already announced his 'retirement' from composition when in the spring of 1894 he played chamber music with the cellist Robert Hausmann and the clarinettist Richard Mühlfeld. This encounter renewed Brahms' enthusiasm for Mühlfeld?s muchadmired playing and inspired him to write two new Clarinet sonatas in the summer of the same year. Brahms and Mühlfeld premiered the works and played them in several performances until the Sonatas Op.120 were first published in June 1895. These two works remain pivotal in the Clarinet?s recital repertoire establishing the Clarinet sonata as a distinct and viable chamber music genre. This edition features an extensive preface that informs about the sonatas? origins their compositional process pre-publication performances and their publication history as well as their early reception. Another truly remarkable aspect of this publication is the unique Performance Practice Commentary. Here the editors start from the premise that only a few decades after Brahms' death a widening gulf was already developing between the composer's expectations and the performance practices of the early 20th century. On the basis of manifold sources which include memoirs by pupils and chamber music partners treatises and essays early instructive editions and historical recordings the editors deal with key issues in understanding Brahms' notation. The editors provide an indispensable assistance for a historically informed interpretation of the work through a section-by-section analysis of rhythm and timing dynamics and accentuation dots and strokes slurring and non legato Piano pedalling and overholding Piano arpeggiation and dislocation Clarinet vibrato and portamento. At the same time the edition offers an exciting and often surprising

The composer and violin virtuoso Johann Stamitz not only established the world-famous Mannheim school in the 18th century but is known among clarinettists above all for presumably being the first to present them with a true solo concerto. Even though Stamitz left it at just this one concerto, it has enjoyed great popularity since its rediscovery in the 20th century and has become a standard work in the concert repertoire. Due to its moderate technical demands, it is ideally suited for music students as a ?first? solo concerto, and as preparation for the more demanding solo parts of Mozart, Weber and Spohr. The newly prepared piano reduction was undertaken with a view to make it easy to play so that also less experienced piano players can undertake the accompaniment of the soloist; a renowned clarinettist, editor Nicolai Pfeffer also contributes suggestions for the cadenzas ? the result is an ideal Urtext edition for student recitals and music schools.

Concert Pieces from the Clarinet Method. Par BAERMANN CARL. The clarinet method op. 63 by Carl Baermann from 1867 is still a standard work in classical clarinet education today. The thoroughly revised new edition aims at reviewing the educational concept, which is still valid today, for modern lessons, adjusting the music and texts, and sensibly complementing the teaching contents.
The editor who draws on many years of experience as a clarinettist in an orchestra and university lecturer of clarinet has succeeded in adapting the valuable teaching material to the requirements of today while maintaining the basic methodology. The result is a total of 7 volumes:
Clarinet Method Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 (ED 21761, ED 21762)
Clarinet Method Vol. 1 and Vol. 2, with 2 CDs each (ED 21761-50, ED 21762-50): The CDs contain the piano accompaniment for the performance pieces, with and without clarinet
Tune Book 1 and 2 (ED 21763, ED 21764): piano score of the method\'s performance pieces, with additional inserted clarinet part
Daily Exercises (ED 21765): systematic scale, interval and chord exercises in all keys, complemented and published separately from the original method
Due to trilingual nature of all editions (German, English, French), they can be used universally.
About the revision:
The musical text is based on the first edition of the method. Only a few differences concerning the articulation as well as some misprints and typographical errors were revised. By deleting the historical fingering instructions for the German fingering system, the clarinet method not only has a clean and, compared to the original, more clearly structured layout, but can also be used universally. The content of the text and the performance directions of the original were linguistically modernized and occasionally extended by further ideas from the teaching practice, such as concepts for warming up, breathing exercises, literature suggestions or tips for daily practising. Further additions of scale and triad studies in all major and minor keys make this method a comprehensive and thorough work of study which not only serves as teaching material for young and adult beginners, but is also a valuable compendium of scale exercises and studies for advanced musicians and is ideal for training velocity and dexterity.
The tune books contain all performance pieces from the Clarinet Method Op. 63 by Carl Baermann for clarinet and piano. Thanks to the revised editions, they are now available as scores with inserted solo part for the first time. Thus, the popular performance pieces and studies can also be used separately from the textbook ? as an addition to the repertoire of music lessons or simply as a collection of attractive performance pieces for pupils and advanced clarinettists.

As I sit myself down to write this brief foreword I ask myself can there be music more stirring than these old Cornish folk melodies? Though not Cornish myself (I confess to being born a little further up the road in Bristol) I feel I have spent sufficient time in these 'ere parts to resonate with the sturdy brass band tradition that continues to permeate this incomparably beautiful rugged county. One can almost detect a French 'accent' when listening to the piano music of Debussy and likewise speaking as a lapsed brass player there is undoubtedly something of the Cornish twang about Trelawny when played on a cornet or euphonium. Then again one gets a different yetentirely convincing effect upon hearing these melodies rendered on woodwind instruments; hence with a little gamesmanship on my part I am pleased to see my collection of these fifteen delectable ditties come to fruition in the form of arrangements for treble clef brass instruments (in B flat and E flat) trombone and tuba (bass clef) horn in F flute clarinet and bassoon. While many will find themselves humming the likes of Going up Camborne Hill Lamorna or The Helston Furry Dance even before they have turned to the first page - for these are indelibly intertwined with Cornish culture I wonder if I might draw your attention to The Cornish Squire The Pool of Pilate and Cold Blows the Wind Today Sweetheart which are quite simply sublime melodies perhaps needing that extra bit of help in bringing them to mind nowadays. In the best tradition of musical hand-me-downs Cornish folk music works equally ideally sung and played and only by doing so on a regular basis can such traditions hope to continue forward with vigour and authority. A legitimate way of achieving this is to revitalise the harmonic scheme of these ancient tunes and bring them up to date for a modern audience; after all it was such an approach that fuelled the imagination of Benjamin Britten and Ralph Vaughan Williams in decades past while skilfully paying homage to the

In addition to a busy performing career and a full-time teaching post at the University of Leicester the English composer James Walker produced at least 80 published works. His style is often witty and movements display clear thinking and unfussy construction. The first movement is somewhat reminiscent of early 20th-century neoclassical styles. The central slow movement must be legato throughout the almost constant metrical changes whereas the last movement has wit and drama.

Duo Concertante Op. 351 by Darius Milhaud was composed in 1956 for the Paris Conservatoire Contest. Many influences can be recognised in this piece: from the Provence where he was born to Jazz and other melodies of South America. Lasting approximately 7 minutes Duo Concertante Op. 351 is started by a fanfare with a strong energy reminiscent of the South of France followed by a simple and moderate Clarinet partly joined by Piano chords. The initial theme is then repeated one last time for the finale. Darius Milhaud (1892-1974) was a French modernist composer and a teacher. He wasalso part of the Les Six and was strongly influenced by Jazz. His opus list ended at 443.
