Par COUPERIN FRANCOIS / GILBERT. The first volume of Couperin 's Harpsichord Pieces does not contain a date of publication, however, it is thought to have been composed during 1716-1717, due to the address which the composer gave on his other Harpsichord compositions. Yet, the compilation remains a favourite. François Couperin (1668-1733) is often nicknamed 'Couperin the Great' to distinguish him from other members of the musical family. Many of the composer's works have picturesque titles. Examples of this in his first volume of Pieces for Harpsichord include, Les Papillons (The Butterflies), L'Enchanteresse (The Enchanting) and LesPlaisirs de Saint Germain en Laÿ e (The Pleasures of Saint Germain en Laÿ e). Couperin 's moods are expressed through choices of keys, adventurous harmonies and discords. With a significant amount of variation and inspiration, Pieces for Harpsichord is essential to the repertoire of aspiring players of the instrument./ Répertoire / Clavecin

As a prestigious musician during the early 1700s Royer's Harpsichord Pieces remains a favourite in the instrument's repertoire. Joseph Nicolas Pancrace Royer (1705-1755) was born in Turin however he moved to Paris in 1925 and soon became responsible for the musical education of King Louis XV's children. Royer is particularly known for his extravagant and virtuosic Harpsichord compositions as displayed in La Pupitre's compilation of his Harpsichord Pieces. Comprising famous works by the composer including Suite Bagatelle and March of the Scythes the collectionexemplifies the composer's skills on the Harpsichord. Royer's Harpsichord Pieces is essential to the repertoire of aspiring advanced players of the instrument.

Here is a winning combination of old and new. This three-movement sonata contrasts the traditional sound of the harpsichord with tonality and syncopation's common to popular music and jazz. There are guitar-like moments in the first and third movements while the second alternates between the baroque and the modern. McLean brings all the character of the instrument to light.

Six Partitas BWV 825-830-Each one of Bach?s Six Partitas features seven great single movements predominantly in the sequence: Präludium - Allemande - Courante - Sarabande - [two free dances] - Gigue. These partitas canjustifiably be described as Bach?s ?ultimate? cycle of suites. As regards the artistic and manual demands it goes far beyond its ?English? (HN 100) and ?French? (HN 71) siblings that are also frequently played. It is nocoincidence that Bach only had these six partitas printed (1731) and what is more as ?Opus 1'.

Cembalo Orgel - Flute Violine - Bc-Score with 3 parts (Flute/Oboe/Violin; Basso Continuo with figures (Cello/Bass); Basso Continuo realised with figures (Harpsichord/Organ)Musical text with arrangements by two Handel contemporaries as well as the editor’s own arrangement for Harpsichord or Organ. All editorial additions are clearly marked.Equally effective when performed note-for-note on the Organ. As early as 1743 while Handel was still alive Francesco Geminiani produced an arrangement of the Water Music for Keyboard instruments thereby making it possible to perform this popular work in domestic surroundings. Then presumably in 1749 an unknown musician arranged theMusic for the Royal Fireworks for transverse Flute or Violin and Harpsichord. In addition to these two contemporary versions this edition also contains an arrangement by the editor for Harpsichord or Organ based on the first edition. Though both early sources explicitly mention a Harpsichord the arrangements can also be performed effectively note-for-note on the Organ. As the surviving anonymous version merely places a solo part and a figured Bass on a two-stave system our edition is accompanied by performance material with one part each for transverse Flute/Oboe/Violin and Violoncello/Double Bass plus a figured Bass realisation.

The complete Harpsichord work - Volume 2 by Louis Couperin is the second of a series of volumes with suites for Harpsichord. Composed in a Baroque style, the whole series features 133 pieces for advanced players. Louis Couperin (1626-1661) was a French composer and performer, who created many pieces for Organ and for Harpsichord who later became musician at the court. He invented the genre of Unmeasured Prelude for which he created a form of notation where the harpsichordist can choose how long each note lasts.
