Cette deuxième série de Danceries continue le format établi en Danceries (Set I), à savoir l'utilisation de matériel provenant Maître à danser Playford, une collection de folk et de mélodies populaires publiés dans le XVIIe siècle, pour former la base d'une suite de danses prolongée. Dans cet ensemble, les mélodies ont été plus abstraite et seul projet un écho lointain de leurs formes d'origine, mais comme avant, chaque mouvement est autonome, colorée et directe, avec son ambiance distincte. Les mouvements extérieurs - Bawbee Jennie et Galliarda Peascod de - partagent une utilisation de la conduite de percussion par écrit avec un air militaire. Toye Tom Tinker et facilité coeur (mouvements deux et trois) sont les deux paramètres de mélodies originales. Tous les mouvements sont plus étendus que dans le premier set, avec une utilisation plus libre et l'approche de la matière- mélodies se produisent maintenant dans différentes touches et sont soutenus par une grande variété de couleurs harmoniques. Standard US Set (without european suppl. parts)-Commissioned by the Michigan State University Alumni Band this three movement work by Karel Husa was the winner of the first Louis Sudler International Wind Band Composition Competition in 1983. A note from thecomposer: 'Divided into three movements this work is a display of virtuoso passages given to solo instruments as well as to the groups of the ensemble. In the Fanfare of the first movement the Brass section concertises in groupsof four Brass quintets (2 Trumpets Horn Trombone and Tuba or Baritone) spread from left to right in back. The Saxophones (SATB) are placed in front of the Brass quintets and the Woodwinds occupy the front of the stage withPercussion on the left and right side. These groups like the Brass quintets play in the concertante style particularly in the first and last movements. 'At the same time each movement contains individual solo passages(for example Timpani and Flute in Movement I - Drum Ceremony and English Horn and other low Woodwinds in Movement II - Elegy). The composition of this piece was prompted by the excellence of Wind and Percussion players today andby the incredible growth of Wind ensembles orchestras and bands in the last 25 years. It is intended for their enjoyment.'

Firefly was composed by award-winning composer Simon Dobson (b.1981) to provide an entertaining up-tempoconcert work for community and youth bands. Composed in funk-rock style and is based on the groove beat with which it opens. Dobson says “Firefly was written as a break from my more serious music and as a ‘hat tip’ to the various types of beat orientated music I listen to.” It was first performed by Oslofjord Brass in Norway and in its wind version by Harmonie Shostakovich Switzerland. Battles was written for the restoration of the epic 1927 silent film The Battles of Coronel and Falkland Islands and was commissioned by the British Film Institute (BFI) in 2013. The work presents eight contrasting scenes as a continuous sequence: War Introduction of Admiral von Spee German Banquet Building Steam/Preparing Islanders Call to Arms Great Battle at Sea and Victory. The original score was written for a small chamber orchestra symphonic brass and a substantial batterie of tuned and untuned percussion. Battles has been edited for symphonic wind orchestra with percussion and harp.Composer Simon Dobson says of hiscolourful score ?I wanted to keep things simple and clear so there is a British theme a fanfare march idea often heard on trumpet and a German naval theme which is a more angular motif.?
