Ce n’est qu’a` partir du XVIIIe sie`cle que les ge´ants de notre plane`te ont e´te´ conquis. En 1786, Jacques Balmat, cristallier, et Michel-Gabriel Paccard, me´decin, parviennent pour la premie`re fois au sommet du Mont-Blanc. Il existe plusieurs voies d’ascension du Mont-Blanc. La voie normale emprunte l’itine´raire de la sublime „voie royale“ de Saint-Gervais-les-Bains, qui fut ouverte en aou^t 1855 par les Britanniques Hudson, Kennedy et Smythe. L’inte´grale de Saint-Gervais par l’Aiguille du Gou^ter (3863 m), le Do^me du Gou^ter (4304 m) et l’Are^te des Bosses (4547 m) fut re´alise´e en 1861. Pour composer cette œuvre, Otto M. Schwarz s’est inspire´ des lignes pures du plus haut sommet d’Europe, entoure´ d’imposants glaciers d’une blancheur scintillante. To^t le matin, une corde´e d’alpinistes se met en route vers le sommet. La beaute´ du lever du soleil ne peut faire oublier les dangers d’une telle monte´e. Une tempe^te de neige et des chutes de pierres sous l’Are^te des Bosses semblent vouloir compromettre la conque^te du Mont-Blanc, mais le temps e´volue favorablement et apre`s de rudes efforts la corde´e atteint enfin le sommet. The introduction to the first part (The Castle) describes the majestic contours of the sceneof action. Its instrumentation (horns) immediately makes you imagine being in Medieval spheres. The addition of trenchant copper instruments even gives the part a heroic tinge. After entering through the gate a lot of hustle and bustle appearsto be going on in the courtyard. Pages squires and soldiers are busy attending to their arms. Beer is being brewed flax is being spun cattle are being tended and some craftsmen from neighbouring villages are busily at work. In the upperchamber of the round tower lives an old man (The Old Wizard). He hardly ever comes out and nobody knows exactly what he is doing. It is said that he is engaged in wizardry and magic. It is all very mysterious. There are also festivities some ofthem sober others exuberant. The wedding in the third part is celebrated in a grand manner. With a flourish of trumpets the bride makes her entrance at the hand of her father. Afterwards at the party there is dancing to the music played byminstrels and of course a plentiful banquet follows.

La partie centrale évolue dans un style groove-pop bien ficelé. Par SCHAARS PETER KLEINE. Peter Kleine Schaars s’est inspiré de l’ambiance musicale de trois îles des Antilles néerlandaises - Aruba, Bonaire et Curaçao - pour écrire cette suite en trois mouvements. Latin ABC s’ouvre par une valse allègre, où s’entrelacent un thème en 3/4 et un autre en 6/8. Le second mouvement apportera une touche traditionnelle avec une salsa lente et sensuelle. La pièce culmine avec une marche entraînante qui emmène l’auditeur au soleil d’Aruba. Es kommt ein Schiff, geladen est un célèbre choral allemand du temps de l’Avent, dans lequel la Nativité s’exprime par la métaphore du bateau portant la cargaison divine jusque sur la terre où il jette l’ancre. Daté du début du XVe siècle, ce choral a la particularité d’être à la fois en ternaire et en binaire. Utilisant différentes ornementations, Roland Kernen a réalisé un arrangement de quatre des six strophes du cantique, auxquelles ont été ajoutés un prélude, un postlude et des interludes.
