Péter Wolf's collection Wolf-temperiertes Klavier, published in 2018, referring to the series The Well-Tempered Clavier by Bach, contains 24 piano pieces, a major and a minor key composition based on each pitch of the chromatic scale. The ninth piece, an Adagio in E major, is one of the gems in the volume, building on the tradition of the Baroque pastorale. This soaring melody has been arranged by the composer to a duet: above the piano accompaniment, it can be performed by a violin or a flute (either by an oboe or other melodic instrument).

Small it is really melodious and quite slow: “Adagio molto tranquillo”. Rated as quite difficult upper-intermediate players will enjoy playing it for recitals. The book includes an insert with the instrument only part. Gabriel Fauré was a French composer organist pianist and teacher. He is one of the most important composers of his generation with pieces such as 'Pavane' or 'Requiem'.

The Flute Collection. Par SCHUMANN ROBERT. Remarks in his household books indicate that Robert Schumann (1810–1856) composed the Märchenbilder (Fairy-Tale Pictures) for piano and viola (or violin) op. 113 in just four days between 1st and 4th March, 1851, in Düsseldorf. Schumann only gradually came to the title Märchenbilder. The four pieces are unified by their shared opus number and keys (D minor, F major, D minor, D major), but the first edition published them in two volumes (Vol. 1: Nos. 1 and 2; Vol. 2: Nos. 3 and 4). Clearly, the Märchenbilder op. 113 do not need to be performed as a group but can be played in pairs or individually.
The present arrangement is based upon the viola part. The viola's ambitus, when transposed up an octave, matches that of the flute. Solutions from the violin part have also been used on occasion. The double stops in the second piece were, for example, already simplified in the violin version. At such points the violin part provides a model for further simplifications in the flute part. Marin Marais, the legendary gambist at the court of Louis XIV, mainly left works for his own instrument, which are entirely in the French ‘taste’. Marais points out that, although his works are written for viola da gamba, they can equally be playedon flute, violin or other melody instrument. Five pieces from his “Quatrième Livre de Viole” are presented here in arrangements for flute and piano. These are based on a 1917 English edition for string instruments, which lends the dances a certainromantic charm. The Suite Florentine for violin and piano written by Charles-Marie Widor in 1919, is an arrangement of the Suite for Violin and Piano, op. 76 (1903), itself a collection of stage music from La Sulamite (1903). It was first performed at the Élysée Palace on 20 February 1919 for Queen Hélène of Italy. Widor played the piano on that occasion and dedicated the work to the Queen.
Like many of Widor's later works, it has no opus number. The suite highlights Widor's great talent for adopting the harmonic languages of various stylistic periods and his harmony is very eclectic. The instantly recognisable and ever-popular Meditation, from the opera Thaï s by Jules Massenet (1842-1912), remains a strong favourite in the classical repertoire, superbly arranged for Flute and Piano by French flautist, Paul Taffanel. Massenet first studied music with his mother before entering the Paris Conservatoire. He is best known for his operas, of which he composed over thirty. Thaï s was first performed at the Opera Garnier in Paris in 1894 and continues to be one of the composer's most performed operas. The famous Meditation, isan intermezzo, originally for Violin and Orchestra, which has since been arranged for many different instruments, making it a frequent concert piece. The arrangement for Flute and Piano remains in the original key of D major and displays the passionate religious intentions. Taffanel 's adaptions include breath marks, phrasing, changing octaves for some notes and articulation, among other aspects.
