This is an updated edition of Francis Poulenc's 1962 work Sonata For Oboe And Piano, edited by Millan Sachania. Featuring the full score and a separate Oboe part, this exclusive edition also includes a download card, giving you instant online access to demonstration and accompaniment tracks.Originally completed in 1962, Poulenc's Sonata For Oboe And Piano had been brewing in his mind for at least five years. The last of Poulenc's trio of sonatas for woodwind instruments, he tragically passed away before it could be definitively engraved, leaving behind a work with a number of ambiguous notational marks that resulted in an incomplete first edition, published posthumously. A number of revisions have taken place, but this, expertly edited by Millan Sachania, aims to provide a playable, legible, precise and authoritative score that reflect closest Poulenc's intentions. This new edition revises many minor details, including Piano chords, tied notes, the correction of various bars throughout as well as his crescendos during the third movement. At all points, Sachania has aimed to reproduce an authoritative and accurate score that is at once playable and a reflection of what Poulenc himself may have intended. This is a most exciting prospect considering the reputation that this work has garnered as a piece of profound poignancy. Dedicated to Sergey Prokofiev, it has been said that the mournful final movement, Déploration, is something of an obituary. What makes this edition of Sonata For Clarinet And Piano really special is the unique download card that provides exclusive online access to demonstration and accompaniment audio tracks. Professionally-recorded by renowned oboist Christopher Cowie and pianist Huw Watkins, the demonstration track allows you to hear exactly how the piece as a whole should sound, before the independent Piano-only track lets you take the place of the Oboe in your very own performance. This is a unique opportunity for oboists to learn from an authoritative score, and play along to a special backing track, with a work that's one of the finest for the instrument ever composed. For oboist fans of Francis Poulenc, lovers of Les Six, or just players with a proclivity for beautiful music, this edition of Sonata For Oboe And Piano has been long-awaited, and now it's available in this unique edition with accompanying download card. / Hautbois Et Piano

arranged for Oboe and Piano-The Oboe Quartet in F major K. 370/368b was written by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in early 1781. The quartet originally arranged for oboe violin viola and cello is presented in this edition for Oboe with Piano accompaniment. In 1780 Mozart was invited to Munich to visit Elector Karl Theodor who had commissioned the opera Idomeneo for a carnival celebration. While in Munich Mozart renewed an acquaintance with Friedrich Ramm a virtuoso oboist in the Munich orchestra. It was for Ramm that Mozart composed the quartet in order to show off his virtuosity and the improvements that had been made to the oboe at that time. One way that this piece showed off theinstrument was the use of the 'high F' above the staff a note rarely played in any repertoire previously written for the oboe. This piece is a work of chamber music but it has elements that harken to other musical genres and requires a fair amount of virtuosity. Because of its large amount of virtuosic playing on the part of the oboe and the large degree to which the strings simply accompany the oboist it almost resembles a concerto but with only with four players instead of an entire orchestra. Despite this there are also a number of places within the work that require ensemble playing for example the famous 13-bar passage in the finale in which the oboe plays in common time against a 6/8 accompaniment.

Concerto In C Minor for Oboe Strings and Basso Continuo composed by Matthäus Nikolaus Stulick [or Georg Friedrich Händel or Johann David Heinichen]. Piano reduction. There are three versions of this concerto with different assignments: Source A: In the library Schwerin [D-SWl] as „de Sing. Stulick' [Mus.5337]. Source B: In the collection Rheda [D-RH] as „Del Sing. Heinichen' [Ms 389]. Source C: In the univesity library Upsala [S-Uu]als „Dell Sing. Hendell' [i hs. 19:28]. The distribution of a baroque composition under various composers names was not uncommon and usually meant that it was aworthy work of high compositional quality. This Concerto for Oboe Strings and Basso continuo can serve in any case as evidence for this thesis. The question which of the three composers mentioned was the creator of the concert can not be answered conclusively. Two arguments suggest however that Matthäus Nikolaus Stulick (c.1700-1732) is the most likely of the three candidates: - The Schwerin manuscript [Source A] that names Stulick as the composer is the best by far; it contains far fewer errors and inconsistencies than the other two. - The designation of a work by a foreign composer name makes only sense if an unknown composer publishes under a name of a much more prominent composer not vice versa. Why should a work of Handel or at his time well-known Heinichen be played under the name of someone less known? We do not know much about the life of Matthäus Nikolaus Stulick. He was born around 1700 in Bohemia and worked in the 1730s as concertmaster at the court in Mainz where he died in 1732. Besides two Oboe concertos he composed a concerti à 4 for three wind instruments and BC.

Exploiting the Oboe to its full potential Fantaisie Pastorale is an exciting and challenging addition to the advanced oboists' repertoire. From Lent to Allegro passages this piece by French composer Eugène Bozza (1905-1991) covers a huge variety of the Oboe's possibilities. The piece begins with an emotional characterised cadenza portraying the pastoral title. However the tempo gradually increases through the piece evoking the fantasy aspect climaxing with flourishing semiquavers and ending with a grand tonic cadence. Bozza's Fantaisie Pastorale for Oboe and Piano is not only symbolic but also includes exciting challenges making for an imperative performance piece in the Oboe repertoire.

Written in 1715 the Oboe was still somewhat of a novelty to write for and Albinoni seems to have had the Trumpet in mind and he wrote as the piece is in the Trumpet 'friendly' Key of D major. It is however a wonderful piece for Oboe and is presented here with a Piano reduction of the original Orchestral score.

Walking down a darkened street it’s hard to resist looking in through lighted windows and catching a glimpse of other people’s lives. The imagination lingers…Night Windows is the title of a painting by Edward Hopper of a scene in one such lighted window. However the scenes in this work though reflecting something of the loneliness in so many of the Hopper paintings are all imaginary: highly charged emotional moments.Loneliness: Anger: Nostalgia: Despair: FrenzyThis work was commissioned by the International Double Reed Society and it is dedicated to Nicholas Daniel.

This title is taken from Dvorak. However. The models from which the songs are derived are clearly identifiable as are the composers from whose language they have been derived. The piece appears to be in one movement though it is in fact two with a coda. The first is French in style a sort of Waltz. It is quick and harks upon the likes of Françaix and where its idiom becomes more advanced Messaien. The other is Germanic a slow movement with echoes of German expressionism - perhaps Richard Strauss perhaps Mahler. The two movements are partly complete; the cod reconciles their differences and completes them. I see the piece as my own version of En blanc et noir.

Gabriel Grovlez (1879-1944) studied under Gabriel Fauré at the Paris Conservatoire. His compositions proved to be extremely versatile from Operas and Ballets to solo works. Grovlez's Sarabande et Allegro is a sublime addition to the Oboe repertoire. Much of the composer's works show neo-classical features which is also the case in Sarabande et Allegro where the texture is predominantly melody-dominated homophony perfect cadences are frequently heard and modulations to related keys occur. Grovlez's D minor Sarabande is in a steady triple metre superblycontrasted by the fast Allegro composed in the relative major. All these features make for an enjoyable and delightful performance.
