Caroline Mathilde Act I (Concert Suite)-The story centres on the English princes...(+)
Caroline Mathilde Act I (Concert Suite)-The story centres on the English princess Caroline Mathilde (1751-1775) sister of George III who at the age of 15 was sent to Denmark to marry the 17-year-old eccentric and schizophrenic Danish King Christian VII. The balletportrays her unhappy marriage the King's growing madness and her fatal love-affair with Struensee the King's influential physician which leads to their arrest his execution and her exile at the age of 20 separated from hertwo young children. In keeping with the period and perhaps also with the traditions of Romantic ballet the music is relatively simple in harmony and form and most of the action is conveyed in set-piece dances. The suite which consists essentially of the second half of Act I begins with one of these a bristling interplay of wind and string ensembles in D major portraying in the ballet a curious nuptial game with the king and princess on movablepedestals. The slow music that follows has to do with the king's healing by Dr. Struensee and the new queen's unquiet reverie (oboe and cor anglais solos). Then the suite like the act is capped by a pair of pas-de-deux thefirst savage and bizarre for the royal couple the second rich and passionate for the queen and the miracle-working doctor.Score (miniature). Duration c. 25mins.

As opposed to the earlier chamber work Nightshade which dealt with extremes of high and low pitches and the chamber orchestra composition Second Nightshade a two-fold piece contrasting darkness/anxiety and light/calm Final Nightshade for full symphony orchestra takes us on a journey in which the forces of dark and light struggle - and co-exist - in a predominantly polyphonic web with brooding undertones. The melodic point-of-departure is not surprisingly to be found in either of the two preceding pieces of the Trilogy but in an older piece Corpus Cum Figuris from 1985. Over the ensuing years I've dreamt on and off of 'doing something' with the opening measures of this older work perhaps even building a new composition on that very simple inward-looking time was ripe and there's a nice nostalgia angle to the idea: Corpus Cum Figuris was the first piece of mine to be

The nine symphonies composed by Anton Bruckner (1824-1896) constitute landmarks of the Austro-Germanic symphonic tradition. These staples of the orchestral literature possess a grandeur nobility of vision and originality that have survived despite extensive revision and unauthorized editing by other musicians. Moreover the original versions of these works reveal a logical organization far greater than originally realised. Symphony No.5 one of Bruckner's finest orchestral works was written in the late 1870s but not performed until 1894. Like the best of his earlier works it features strikinglyoriginal harmonies an extended structure and tonal range and a gripping monumental sonority. Based on the authoritative autograph score this complete restoration of the composer's original design offers musicians and music lovers the chance to study the music as originally conceived.

Incorporating complex rhythms harmony melodies and his passion for ornithology his La Transfiguration De Notre-Seigneur Jésus-Christ for Choir Seven solo instruments and Orchestra is no exception to the composer's popular distinctive style. Composed between 1965-1969 La Transfiguration De Notre-Seigneur Jésus-Christ is based on the account of Jesus' Transfiguration found in the Gospels of Matthew Mark and Luke. The work requires a huge 200 performers and with 14 movements a typicalperformance lasts about an hour and a half. La Transfiguration De Notre-Seigneur Jésus-Christ incorporates Messiaen's popular compositional techniques such as his modes of limited transposition and the use of birdsong. Dramma per musica in thre acts-Rodelinda Regina de' Longobardi HWV 19; Opera in three acts. After Giulio Cesare and Tamerlano Rodelinda is the third masterly opera that Handel composed between December 1723 and January 1725. The words were written by Nicola Haym the author of many other Handel librettos. The first performance took place at the King’s Theatre in the Haymarket London on 13 February 1725. Rodelinda thrives entirely on the ethical supremacy of conjugal love and thus prefigures the great operas by Gluck and Beethoven on the same subject. The plot is taken from the history of the Lombard royalty. Oskar Hagen’s revival of Rodelinda in 1920 ushered in the modern Handel operamovement. The work forms the climax to a series of dramatic masterpieces that includes Handel’s most significant operas. Handel returned to Rodelinda on two occasions in December 1725 and in May 1731. Many far-reaching changes were necessary owing to the different skills of the new singers. For example Handel wrote three new arias and a duet for the first revival. Yet the changes he made for this performance doubtless to accommodate the needs and wishes of the singers also improve the work’s dramatic substance. Our vocal score is based on the Urtext of the full score published in the Halle Handel Edition (II/16) and reproduces the various alternative readings and versions in an appendix. Urtext of the Halle Handel Edition.U47 Full score (BA4064) & vocal score (BA4064-90) available for sale. Performance material (BA4064-72) available for hire

As such this record was widely appreciated by musicians working both in the field of ‘pop’ music and in experimental music and was alandmark work of that period.Having taken themes from three of the instrumentals on the record and combining them with material of his own Glass has used them as the basis of three movements of this Symphony.Thisis the Full Score of Glass’ orchestral work.

This study score is based on the score and complete performance material of Dvorák?s famous Cello Concerto In B Minor (BA 9045) edited by Jonathan Del Mar and published in 2011. In addition the study score contains a Foreword by Dvorák scholar Jan Smaczny.Like every other major 19th-century Cello concerto Dvorák?s concerto resulted from a collaboration between the composer and a virtuoso musician. Several passages in Dvorák?s autograph were written by the cellist Hanus Wihan but Bärenreiter?s edition now reveals that some details in the orchestral parts are also in his writing showing just how closely the twomusicians were working together. The editor Jonathan Del Mar has conscientiously examined every available source including two that have hitherto been either ignored or crucially undervalued. His research has led to a benchmark edition that reconstructs for the first time since its initial publication in 1896 Dvorák?s definitive version of the solo part. It differs from previous editions in practically every bar and hundreds of corrections have also been made to the orchestral parts.Includes Dvorák?s final and definitive version of the solo Cello part.Incorporates new discoveries regarding the collaboration between Dvorák and Wihan. With Feuermann?s and Casals?s alternative versions of a passage in the first movement.Detailed Foreword (Eng/Cz/Ger)

Marking the first publication of an early work for chamber orchestra this study score presents Ralph Vaughan Williams's The Solent composed in 1903. The main theme from this work will be recognisable to many listeners as it later found its way into both the Sea Symphony and the Ninth Symphony albeit in a somewhat altered form. This duplication has intrigued many Vaughan Williams' scholars as has the Philip Marston quotation that prefaces the scores: 'Passion and sorrow in the deep sea's voice A mighty mystery saddening all the wind?'.The score has been edited by James Francis Brown and includes an introduction by theeditor.
