Ed. critica di Martin Deasy - Riduzione per canto e pianoforte. Par PUCCINI GIACOMO. Here, appearing for the first time, is the piano vocal score of Le Willis, Giacomo Puccini’s first stage work, whose full score remained unpublished until 2020, when it was issued by Casa Ricordi (NR 139546).The critical edition by Martin Deasy is based, as far as the first six Numbers are concerned, on the autograph score that Puccini reutilized for composing Le Villi. The autograph pages incorporating the final Number – pages that were later removed, in order to make space for the new material produced for Le Villi– are also proposed as the principal text.Pursuing an innovative philological approach, the editor has, furthermore, taken into due consideration the contemporaneous printed editions of the piano vocal score, on the assumption that they constitute the principal collateral sources, if one considers the particular genesis of this work. For it is certain that Puccini, upon entering the Sonzogno competition, submitted a score of Willis that lacked proper orchestration in a few pages and displayed, above all, incomplete vocal lines. However, he also provided a manuscript reduction for piano and vocal score (now lost, except for the final Number of Willis) that was undoubtedly more detailed, as far as the vocal lines were concerned. The editor proves that the vocal material produced for the first performance of Willis was not copied from the autograph score, but from the lost score reduction. The latter also served as the basis for the preparation of Ricordi’s printed edition of the piano vocal score./ Répertoire / Chant et Piano

Ed. critica di Martin Deasy - Riduzione per canto e pianoforte. Par PUCCINI GIACOMO. What is being presented here is the piano vocal score of Le Villi, Giacomo Puccini’s first stage work, the full score of which was published by Casa Ricordi (NR 141755) in 2020.The premiere of Le Villi took place at the Teatro Regio in Turin on 27 December 1884, and was followed by a Milanese performance at Teatro alla Scala on 24 January 1885: both productions were quite well received by critics and public alike. The critical edition by Martin Deasy is based on the autograph score that Puccini initially prepared for the one-act version (Willis), and later modified for the two-act, revised version (Villi). Pursuing a groundbreaking philological approach, the editor has, furthermore, taken into proper consideration the contemporaneous printed editions of the piano vocal score, which constitute, in his view, the principal collateral sources, if one is to consider the particular genesis of this work. The editor demonstrates that the vocal material realized for the first performance of Willis was not derived from the autograph score, but from the lost score reduction. The latter also served as the basis for the preparation of Ricordi’s printed edition of the piano vocal score./ Répertoire / Chant et Piano

Sonáta - Krajina. Par KLEIN GIDEON. The extraordinarily gifted composer and pianist Gideon Klein (1919'1945) was murdered in the Fürstengrube concentration camp at the age of 25. One of the undeniable highlights of his small compositional legacy is his Sonata for Piano. Its three movements were written in reverse order in the Terezín concentration camp in 1943; only a three-measure draft of the intended fourth movement has survived. This first Urtext edition of the piano sonata has been expanded to include the previously unpublished short melodrama 'Landscape' (entitled 'Topol' / 'Poplar' in existing literature) in which the pianist can also take over the recitation part if required. In July 1939, shortly after Klein completed his studies at the conservatory, he composed this setting of the same-named poem by Vilém Závada (1905'1982) in the style of free atonality. - First Urtext edition of the sonata - First publication of the melodrama 'Krajina' (Landscape) with translations (Ger/Eng) of the Czech text in the prefix - Includes the draft of the fourth movement printed as a facsimile - Foreword (Cz/Eng/Ger) on the genesis and reception as well as a Critical Commentary / Date parution : 2022-11-29/ Répertoire / Piano et Récitant

French/English-The genesis of L'enfance du Christ was unusual for Berlioz since he normally had a plan of his larger works in mind before he began writing. The work is divided into three parts; part two La fuite en Égypte (The Flight into Egypt) was composed in the autumn of 1850 and first performed in full in Leipzig in December 1853. The success of this led Berlioz to undertake a sequel L'arrivée a Saïs (The Arrival at Saïs) which he finished in April 1854. He then began work on the opening panel of the triptych Le songe d'Hérode (Herod's Dream) which he completed on 27 July 1854. Salieri, Antonio Prima la musica e poi le parole Divertimento teatrale in one act Details Edition no.: BA 8811-90 ISMN: 9790006542826 Editor: Betzwieser, Thomas / La Salvia, Adrian Arranger: Müller, Karl-Heinz / Schellevis, Hans Language(s) of work: German, Italian Language(s) of text: German, English Product format: Piano reduction, Urtext edition Comments: Replaces BA 7698-90 Binding: Paperback Pages / Format: XVI, 199 S. - 27,0 x 19,0 cm A memorable musical competition commissioned by the emperor Joseph II took place on 7 February 1786 as part of a festival in the orangery of the Schönbrunn palace. The Italian court singers and musicians performed Mozart?s Schauspieldirektor whilst Antonio Salieri?s Prima la musica e poi le parole was performed by a German Singspiel ensemble. This charming opera satire belongs to the genre of ?metamelodrama? in which the opera itself becomes the subject of the action. The people who are part of an opera production, for example the writer, composer and prima donna, appear as characters on the stage and are presented in a humorous mirror image. In this ?theatre about theatre? Salieri parodies the music from Giuseppe Sarti?s Giulio Sabino in his insert arias, thus playing on the music which was totally familiar with the audience of that time. By reflecting on the musical-dramatic style of that time and discussing whether ?the word? or ?the music? should take priority, this masterpiece is considered to be a forerunner to Richard Strauss?s Capriccio. This new edition of the score is published as part of OPERA ? Spectrum of European Music Theatre in Separate Editions. There are several alterations regarding the libretto text, stage directions, articulation, ornamentation, etc. which have been incorporated into the newly engraved vocal score. Furthermore, all appendix numbers from the score which concern the quotations from Giuseppe Sarti?s Giulio Sabino have also been incorporated. - Urtext edition based on the historical-critical hybrid edition OPERA-Spectrum of European Music Theatre in Separate Editions edited by Thomas Betzwieser (music edition) and Adrian La Salvia (text edition).- Original Italian libretto with singable German translation- Comprehensive bilingual foreword (Ger/Eng) on the genesis and reception of the work, on metamelodrama and intertextuality- Includes an extensive appendix to the quotations taken from Giuseppe Sarti?s Giulio Sabino- Idiomatic piano reduction

Par SMETANA BEDRICH. Bedrich Smetana (1824-1884) only began to devote himself intensively to the project of an original opera in Czech at the age of 38. The libretto of 'The Bartered Bride”, the second of Smetana's nine operas, was written for Smetana by the poet and journalist Karel Sabina. The subject chosen for the comic opera was the story of a pair of lovers in the countryside whose relationship is disapproved of by their parents. It is set during the festival at a village church anniversary.
The final form of the work, which soon came to be regarded as a national opera, was preceded by a relatively difficult genesis.
The opera was written between 1863 and 1865 and was premiered on 30 May 1866 at the Provisional Theatre in Prague, where the composer's last version of the work was also performed in 1870.
This vocal score contains the musical text of the critical edition of Smetana's own vocal score.
The newly-set edition contains both Czech and German vocal texts - the German singing translation is by Kurt Honolka.
The newly-set and revised performance material for the entire opera, based on the critical edition by Frantisek Bartos, is available on hire.

Thanatopsis op. 4 for female voice and pian. It is a great pleasure to present, with Thanatopsis, maestro Kissin?s opus 4, an expressive setting of the ground-breaking poem from the quill of William Cullen Bryant. Published in in the form known today in 1821, it is an early example of American romantic poetry of the 19th century. Bryant is today reckoned among the group of ?Fireside Poets? or ?Schoolroom Poets?, names that allude to the places where their poems were usually recited. His poems ? first and foremost Thanatopsis (?A Consideration of Death?) as his most famous ? are rooted in the English tradition, but at the same time show Bryant?s openness to a genuine American language and lifeworld. Evgeny Kissin?s setting is a large vocal scene intensely informed by recitative, which congenially allows the prevailing mood of the text to resound. Our edition additionally includes German and French translations of the poem and an informative afterword about Bryant?s life and work and the genesis of Thanatopsis.

?Les Fêtes de l?Hymen et de l?Amour? was performed on 15 March 1747 on the occasion of the second marriage of the Dauphin Louis Ferdinand de Bourbon and Maria Josepha of Saxony in the Manège de la Grande Écurie in Versailles. This second collaboration between Rameau and Cahusac makes use of the ?ballet héroïque? genre, usually known today as ?opéra-ballet? based on various story lines which run independently of each other.
