Par ZELENKA JAN DISMAS. The Missa Omnium Sanctorum ZWV 21 is Zelenka?s last mass setting. It contains three extended arias (one each for soprano, alto and tenor), concertante choruses and unusually expressive choral fugues. Especially powerful in effect is the through-composed Credo in this mass, with a ritornello that is one of Zelenka?s most beautiful inspirations. The score and parts material of this new edition are based on the corresponding volume of the ?Das Erbe deutscher Musik? series, from which Breitkopf and Härtel also took over both its informative preface as well as the critical report. Giuseppe Verdi's Quattro Pezzi Sacri for SATB and Piano.The single works forming the sacred music cycle 'Quattro pezzi sacri' were composed as independent pieces between 1889 and 1897. The scoring ranges from solo voices a cappella to double choir with large orchestra. In 1898 the year of their first joint performance Verdi had them published together as 'Quattro pezzi sacri'. With the composition of the 'Quattro pezzi sacri' in the last years of his life Verdi thus returned to his church musician origins. Already at the age of 10 Verdi performed the duties of organist in his home congregation and later in Busseto where he received his first music lessons. Themasses at the collegiate church in Busseto formed some of his most important musical impressions. During the time Verdi composed 'Falstaff' his last opera he was once again composing sacred music this time in a conscious encounter with historical models such as Palestrina and Bach.

In his Memoirs he recounts how his father a country doctor read Virgil to him and how the story of Dido?s tragic fate reduced him to tears which he tried hard to conceal.The score was finished in April 1858 but he was unable to persuade the Paris Opera to mount it (his earlier opera Benvenuto Cellini had been a failure there in 1838) and eventually he agreed to allow the last three acts to be performed under the title Les Troyens Carthage. This took place at theThé tre-lyrique an enterprising but ill-equipped theatre in November 1863 and although it was much admired there were no more performances before Berlioz?s death in 1869.In the history of French music Les Troyens stand out as a grand opera that avoided the shallow glamour of Meyerbeer and Halévy but therefore paid the price of long neglect. In our own time the opera has finally come to be seen as one of the greatest operas of the 19th century.The vocal score to ?Les Troyens? presents the text Berlioz conceived as a great five act opera. Par MAHLER GUSTAV. Over the years, the need for a new edition of Mahler's Symphony No. 2 became apparent for several reasons. First, many new sources for this work have become accessible since 1970, when Erwin Ratz completed the first critical edition of this symphony, the most significant being Mahler's personal reference score in which he recorded changes to be made (his last entries were made in September 1910). The second reason was the significant strengthening of the editorial standards of the critical edition in recent years. The music is now computer-generated. Previously, changes to the score could be made only by retouching the film of old engravings. Computerization also ensures a concurrence between the score and performance materials. The Te Deum H 148 is the last of the six settings of this text by Marc-Antoine Charpentier (1643–1704) whose death is now being commemorated three centuries later.Unlike the better known and relatively lavish Te Deum of the “Eurovision Fanfare” (H 146) this version reduces the ensemble to four-voice chorus and basso continuo. Jesu am Kreuz-Franck's Die Sieben Worte for SATB.Unlike the well-known settings of the 'Seven Last Words' by Schütz or Haydn in his opulently scored composition Franck provides commentary to the words of Jesus with excerpts from the Old and New Testaments as well as from portions of the 'Stabat Mater'. In his transposition of the Latin text into music Franck reveals a rich palette of compositional parameters: ?different-sized ensembles exciting orchestration formal variety and sophisticated harmony. Laments simple passages for the choir in unison passages with great drama melodic shapes filled with sweetness convey to the listener a multi-layered impression of acomposition stamped by a strongly personal will to expression.?
