The Mass K.262 (246a) is known as Missa longa. Leopold Mozart designated it so next to the incipit on the cover of the autograph collection of five masses in C major by his son. Mozart literature gives the year of origin as 1776 without mentioning the speculative nature of this claim. The monumentality of the Missa longa suggests that the work was written for a particularly solemn occasion. When scanning for outstanding ecclesiastical events in the 1770?s one cannot ignore the consecration of Ignaz Josef Count Spaur coadjutor and administrator of the diocese of Brixen as titular bishop of Chrysopel on 17 November 1776 in the Salzburg cathedral. Erich Schenk claimsthat Leopold Mozart?s mention of Wolfgang?s ?Spaur Mass? in a letter of 28 May 1778 was in reference to the consecration of Ignaz Josef Spaur an old friend of the Mozart family. Mozart?s work would then have to be seen as an homage of a truly personal nature. The Missa longa is the only setting of the Ordinary from this period which is appropriate to such a highly solemn event.Urtext of the ?New Mozart Edition? Par ZELENKA JAN DISMAS. The Missa Omnium Sanctorum ZWV 21 is Zelenka?s last mass setting. It contains three extended arias (one each for soprano, alto and tenor), concertante choruses and unusually expressive choral fugues. Especially powerful in effect is the through-composed Credo in this mass, with a ritornello that is one of Zelenka?s most beautiful inspirations. The score and parts material of this new edition are based on the corresponding volume of the ?Das Erbe deutscher Musik? series, from which Breitkopf and Härtel also took over both its informative preface as well as the critical report. 'Zelenka?s artistic personality, his biography and his compositional style are utterly distinctive. His style is highly experimental. Was Zelenka really one of the greatest composers of the 18th century, or only one of the most interesting' I think that he still has several surprises for us.' (Schweizerische Musikzeitung) 'Zelenka?s Masses - fine specimens of Baroque choral literature, some parts of which are set even more colorfully than in the corresponding compositions by Bach.' Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy completed his first oratorio St. Paul Op.36 in 1836 at the age of twenty-seven. The first version which was premiered on 22 May 1836 was then extensively revised by the composer. This second version which at the same time served as the basis for the published version was premiered as early as October that year in Birmingham. The acclaim with which the oratorio was received was exceptional. Within eighteen months of completing the score Mendelssohn was able to list fifty performances of the work. Robert Schumann praised the work effusively and even Richard Wagner who later denigrated Mendelssohn was full of admiration. Today St. Paul belongs to the core repertoire of sacred choral music. This Urtext edition of the oratorio edited by the internationally-recognised Mendelssohn scholar Michael Cooper is based on all critical sources. Complete Edition hardcover Opera buffa in four acts-Premièred at the Vienna ...(+)
Complete Edition hardcover Opera buffa in four acts-Premièred at the Vienna Hoftheater on 1 May 1786 Wolfang Amadeus Mozart’s and Lorenzo Da Ponte’s Le nozze di Figaro may be safely regarded as one of the greatest operatic successes of all times. Yet its success was not entirely due to Mozart’s music: on the contrary because of the extraordinary demands it placed on the orchestra (especially the woodwinds) the music even posed an obstacle to the work’s spread outside the German-speaking countries. At least equally responsible for the opera’s success was the librettist Lorenzo Da Ponte who managed to transform a topical and socio-critical stage play into an opera libretto as effective as it isamusing. Many of the sources for Mozart’s first opera from the Lorenzo Da Ponte trilogy only became available to scholars again after the ‘New Mozart Edition’ volume was published. These include the autograph scores of acts 3 and 4 now held at the Biblioteka Jagiello ka in Kraków significant portions of the original sets of parts and acts 2 to 4 of the conductor’s copy from the first performance of 1786.These original sources now available again offer compelling solutions to several previously unresolved questions.Edition based on the Urtext of the ‘New Mozart Edition’ reflecting the latest musicological researchWith findings from original sources now available againDetailed foreword (Ger/Eng)Full score (BA4565-01) Vocal score (BA4565-92) study score format 22.5 x 16.5cm & Facsimile (BVK1882) available for saleV43 Performance material (BA4565-72) available to hire

B-Dur-To a greater extent than almost any others Mozart's Masses combine a very high degree of artistic accomplishment and tonal beauty with fulfilment of the demands made by the Liturgy. Even the textually expansive movements 'Gloria' and 'Credo' are in most of Mozart's Masses short enough to meet the requirements of a festive service today as in his time. The choral parts are not too difficult for well-trained amateur singers.

The St. John Passion was first performed in Leipzig on Good Friday of 1724. Written three years before the St. Matthew Passion it was a work Bach revised during the rest of his life in fact he did not leave us a definitive version either in print or fair copy. The sources give evidence of four different versions used at four performances - 1724 1725 around 1730 and during the last years of Bach's life. They often contain two or more readings for the same passage or even different movements that on different occasions occupied the same place in the work.Barenreiter's edition uses the final version IV as its basis with alternativemovements and readings contained in the appendices. A comprehensive preface in the study score (German/English) TP197 gives full information.- Full score performance material (BA5037) vocal score (BA5037-90) and study score (TP197) available for sale.

In his transposition of the Latin text into music Franck reveals a rich palette of compositional parameters: ?different-sized ensembles exciting orchestration formal variety and sophisticated harmony. Oreste HWV A11 Opera in three acts.Full score available for sale (BA4045) performance material available for hire.In 1734 Handel provided the pasticcio ?Oreste? for his third operatic enterprise which following the bankruptcy of the Royal Academy and its successor academy felt threatened by competition from the newly-founded Opera of the Nobility. Hence the composer did not compile the work from favourite movements from his own and other composer's pieces as was usual at that time; rather in ?Oreste? he presented a selection of the most beautiful arias and ensembles exclusively from his own operas. In addition he expanded the ballet and choral scenes which he thought would make a great impact after the move into the newly built Covent Garden Theatre. As most of the singers in his Italian company had been enticed away by the competition Handel increasingly began to engage English virtuosi. He probably even worked on the new version of the libretto himself in order to place the new stars in the limelight to the best effect.Based on the Urtext of the ?Halle Handel? Edition.Original Italian text with singing German translation.Figured bass realisation and editorial additions in cue-sized notes.Detailed foreword (Ger/Eng).

Passionskantate. Par HOMILIUS GOTTFRIED AUGUST. He was without argument our greatest church composer, wrote the lexicographer E. L. Gerber a few years after Homilius's death in 1785. As a result of the destruction of the Kreuzkirche during the Seven Years War, the longtime Kreuzkantor, a pupil of Bach, performed his professional musical duties primarily at the Frauenkirche in Dresden. The Passionskantate was well received and widely disseminated during the 18th and 19th centuries: Thanks to its popularity it was published in 1775 by Breitkopf as a full score - a rare honor, accorded to only one other Passion in the 18th century [Graun's 'Tod Jesu']. The text describes the events of the Passion from a very personal pointof view: The story focuses less on the actual events, then upon the feelings of the observers of these events. The subjective nature of the narrative is reflected in a very dramatically marked style of recitative, which presents a charming contrast to the expressive choral writing and the melodically accented arias. With the release of a new music editions and a SACD/CD the Passionskantate can now be 'rediscovered. '/ Répertoire / Solistes SATB, Choeur SATB, 2 Flûtes Traversières,

Vecné evangelium / The Eternal Gospel Cantata for Solo Voices Mixed Chorus and...(+)
Vecné evangelium / The Eternal Gospel Cantata for Solo Voices Mixed Chorus and Orchestra Leoš Janácek’s great oratorio “The Eternal Gospel” for soprano tenor mixed chorus and orchestra is based on a medieval legend in which an angel announces the coming of the Kingdom of Love on Earth to a Cistercian monk Joachim of Flora. Janácek set the text as a dramatic scene with two characters. The chorus unfolds as a contrasting foil to the two main figures until the final climax when the people sing “Alleluia” and receive the message of the brotherhood of all creation. The Eternal Gospel occupies aspecial place in Janácek’s œuvre. The dream-like atmosphere and emotional force of this twenty-minute cantata cast an unusually powerful spell. It originated during a time of turmoil: Janácek wrote it in spring 1914 on the eve of the First World War and the première took place in Prague in February 1917. In 1924 Janácek revised the cantata yet again for a festive performance on the occasion of his seventieth birthday.
