This Rondo, which originally was the third of four easy performance pieces in a cycle for violin and piano (Op. 22), is one of Rieding's most popular and frequently performed pieces in violin lessons for beginners. This edition is part of the new Schott Student Edition series which offers varied literature at five different levels of difficulty, from 1 (easy) to 5 (difficult), for instrumental lessons.

The Concertino op. 12 by the German violinist, composer and violin educator Ferdinand Küchler (1867-1937) is a three-movement work that is ideal for the development of playing in first and third position. The first movement is both powerful and playful in character, and its themes that follow on from each other rapidly, producing a concise sonata form. The second movement has been written in a three-part song form (A-B-A). The A section has a cantabile atmosphere, whereas section B is more dramatic. The third movement is a rondo (with a refrain and episodes). The refrain is joyful in spirit, and the episodes present variation.

The material introduced by the piano of the beginning a solo is the one that serves of vertebral axis of the work, that has nearly the form of a rondo. This introduction is based on isolated, naked notes, with a constant rythm of the eighths that create a big intervalic space between them. Later on, that will be used as a support to an espressive melody of the violin, that will take this material and will expose it in pizzicato. In this way will be used as accompaniment to a very suggestive and lyric fragment of the piano that covers nearly all the registers of the instrument. This will lead to a second section of the work, of a very rythmic and intense character of both instruments. The third section, the most expressive of the work, it's iniciated with some chords of the piano that little by litlle dissapear and remembers the introduction. Here, the violin develops a melody of big lirism, supported by the piano witht he material of the introduction, but this time there are non isolated notes but full chords that disintegrate again at the end, taking up again the idea of a fragment of the first section of the piece by means of the piano. Far from free instrumental effects, the work looks mainly for a direct communication with the listener.

A suite whose movements always deliver something other than what they seem to promise. But throughout, the two instruments and respectively their players act like two people in very specific situations:

I.: The opening movement is reserved for the piano; the initially earnest, solitary cantilena intensifies creating expectation. Suddenly
II.: the violin sounds. Its moving figures replace the now silent piano, also soloistically.
III. „Passacaglia“ : The title is taken literally – the two instruments/persons encounter each other in the street. Two musical characters who meet at a specific point, recognize each other, but move on again, each one by itself.
IV. „Rondo“: The two of them dance together. Before me, I saw people dancing the Sardana – a round dance – in front of the cathedral of Barcelona. Four themes in different time signatures circle ceaselessly between the two instruments.
V. „Fuga“: At last, regardless, panic flight – again the title is taken literally ... Human, only too human …
