Par BRAHMS JOHANNES. The 'Deutsche Volkslieder” WoO by Johannes Brahms were published in altogether seven books in 1894. The first six books each comprised seven songs for voice and piano accompaniment, and Book VII contained the subsequently composed songs nos. 43 to 49 for four-part chorus and piano ad libitum. Brahms had completed his compilation of the books in the winter of 1893/94- however, most of the songs were written earlier. Brahms' primary text source was the two-volume collection of 'Deutsche Volkslieder mit ihren Original-Weisen” (German Folksongs with their Original Melodies) published in 1838/1840 by Anton Wilhelm von Zuccalmaglio./ Répertoire / Voix Haute et Piano

Hohe Stimme / High Voice-Based on the New Schubert Edition.Newly engraved clearly presented musical layout.Foreword by Walther Dürr on the history and genesis of the work as well as an explanation of the sources for each individual lied (Eng/Ger).Includes English translations of lieder texts by Richard Wigmore. The lieder in this sixth volume were composed during the period between autumn 1814 and spring 1815. With Nachtgesang (D 119) and Trost in Tränen (D120) Schubert turns to the Strophenlied in its stricter sense for the first time. He develops an interest in this form parallel to his first involvement with Goethe.Schubert during this period an assistant teacherat his father?s school orientated himself towards the so-called Berliner Liederschule particularly the songs of Johann Friedrich Reichardt. By the beginning of the year 1815 he drew his inspiration mainly from the texts of Theodor Körner; however he regularly still produced settings for the poetry of Goethe and Schiller. Also available:Medium Voice & Piano BA 9126Low Voice & Piano BA 9146

Hohe Stimme / High Voice-As a continuation of the new Urtext edition of the Schubert lieder Walther Dürr has now edited volume five for high medium and low voices. Volumes 1 to 4 of this edition contain mainly lieder which Schubert himself saw into print (in his own choice and order) and in the fourth volume works from the last two years of his life are included. The lieder in volume 5 onwards are strictly presented in the order of Deutsch?s Thematic Catalogue which means that in principle they are arranged chronologically. The lieder in volume five were composed in the years 1811 to 1814. The first 'Hagars Klage' (D 5) dated 30 March 1811 is also his first complete surviving song. The firsteleven lieder are evidence of his early studies (1811 1813/14). During this period Schubert immersed himself in Johann Rudolf Zumsteeg?s ballads and lieder and wrote Italian arias during his composition lessons with Antonio Salieri. He also composed a single strophic song ('Klaglied' D 23) which the only one of these songs was published shortly after his death in November 1830 as op. 131 3. His apprentice work as it were was the major ballade 'Der Taucher' (D 77) which was composed between 1813 and roughly the beginning of 1815. Probably not by chance his first complete opera ('Des Teufels Lustschloss' D 84) was written at the same time. He also set fourteen poems by Friedrich von Matthisson exploring the principle of the strophic lied.- Excellent new engraving based on the 'New Schubert Edition'- Foreword by Walther Dürr discussing the history the works? compositionand transmission together with a list of sources for each song (Ger/Eng)- English translation of the song texts by Richard WigmoreContents:Hagars Klage D 5 / Leichenfantasie D 7 /Der Vatermörder D 10 / Klaglied op. post. 131 3 D 23 / Misero pargoletto D 42 (high voice only) / Totengräberlied D 44 / Die Schatten D 50 / Verklärung D 59 / Pensa che questo istante D 76 (medium and low voice only) /Der Taucher D 77 / Son fra l?onde D 78 (high voice only) /Adelaide D 95 / Trost. Par STRAUSS RICHARD. This new practical edition of the 'Vier Lieder' ('Four songs') Op. 27 for high voice is based on the text of 'Richard Strauss Works ' Critical Edition'. The lyrics were translated into English by John Bernhoff.
Beginning with op. 27, Strauss turned to settings of poems by a new generation of lyricists of his age with whom he was sometimes in personal contact (Karl Henckell, Heinrich Hart, John Henry Mackay). The four songs 'Ruhe, meine Seele!' ('Rest Thee, My Spirit!'), 'Cäcilie' ('Cecily'), 'Heimliche Aufforderung' ('The Lover's Pledge') and 'Morgen!' ('Tomorrow!') are among the composer's best known and most popular songs, which is why he later arranged three of them as orchestral songs.

Originaltonarten für hohe Stimme. Written in 1885, the eight songs after texts by the now little-known poet Hermann von Gilm have a special place in Richard Strauss? corpus of Lieder. For the first time, he composed an entire set of songs on texts by a single poet, collecting them into one opus that was also to appear in print. Some of the numbers in it, like ?Zueignung,? ?Die Nacht,? and ?Allerseelen,? are among the most popular Strauss songs of all time, but the entire cycle with its well-planned structure is also worthy of closer examination and performance. The aspiring composer quite consciously aligns himself with the tradition ranging from Schubert to Wolf, choosing the highly Romantic subject of unrequited love and illuminating its most diverse facets. The primary source for the Henle Urtext edition is the first edition from 1887, which Strauss furnished with a dedication to the Royal Bavarian chamber singer Heinrich Vogl - a serious invitation to today?s male singers not to leave these wonderful Strauss songs solely to female singers!
