40 Fun Warm-Ups Using Songs from Across the United States. Keeping singers in our ensembles excited and energized during the warm-up process is a consistent hurdle for educators across the nation. By using songs that are indigenous to different parts of our country, teachers in choral classrooms can help students prepare their minds, bodies and voices while sharing a bit of our culture and history from different areas of the United States. All of the songs can be used with both inexperienced beginners and advanced singers. The lesson suggestions introduced with each song are intended to be aspringboard for teachers to modify and adapt to their own students' needs and skill levels. Each melody includes strategies that are accessible for those who are just learning how to use their voices, and also for those more sophisticated singers who enjoy a good challenge. Based on the film by Ingmar Bergman, Sebastian Fagerlund’s Autumn Sonata follows Charlotte Andergast, a celebrated concert pianist, as she visits the country home of her adult daughter, Eva. Charlotte has not seen Eva for seven years, during which time Eva and her husband Viktor have lost their three-year-old son Erik. Eva’s sister, Helena (Charlotte’s daughter), had been held in an institution but now (unbeknownst to Charlotte) lives with Eva and Viktor. Charlotte brings with her her need for adulation, imagining the chorus as an admiring concert audience applauding her every decision. When the family members converge under one roof after years of separation, they begin to delve into the past and old wounds?despite their good intentions?are reopened.
Autumn Sonata was commissioned by the Finnish National Opera and premiered in Helsinki on 8 September 2017 with the Finnish National Opera Orchestra and Chorus conducted by John Storgårds. Igor Stravinsky's Renard is a one-act opera that tells a burlesque tale of a devious fox who deceives a number of other animals. This corrected and revised edition of the Vocal Score is edited by Millan Sachania.Renard was composed in 1916 after being commissioned by socialite Winaretta Singer. The lyrics of the work are in Russian, Russian transliteration and French. Renard is often seen by critics as a satire, either on political or religious themes, with Renard the fox and the other farmyard animals symbolising key figures of authority at the time. The premiere was staged in Paris in 1922 by the Russian ballet, to great national and international attention.Stravinsky's brilliant work for Ensemble and Voices is now available in Vocal Score format.
