Avec 8 Préludes et 1 Allemande De 'L'Art De Toucher Le Clavecin' (1716-1717). Par COUPERIN LOUIS. Once again the French musicologist Denis Herlin, who mastered the harpsichord under the tutelage of such keyboard legends as Kenneth Gilbert and Huguette Dreyfus, has presented an exemplary edition of a classic from the harpsichord repertoire.' (Jury of the German Music Edition Prize on BA 10844)
Bärenreiter presents Book II of Couperin's 'Pièces de clavecin”, first published in 1717, In addition the eight preludes and one allemande from his treatise 'L'Art de toucher le clavecin” are included in the appendix. For the first time Denis Herlin has evaluated the many later impressions of the original print, most of which he unearthed himself in international libraries. By preserving the essential features of the original print while largely dispensing with disruptive page-turns within the pieces, the volume brings modern performers close to the special sound of this music. Rounding off this pioneering new edition are an extensive Foreword, notes on historical performance practice, a comprehensive glossary, facsimile pages and a detailed Critical Commentary.
- Pioneering edition with the first-time evaluation of an extensive body of sources
- Includes Couperin's original expression marks
- Contains nine original compositions from 'L'Art de toucher le clavecin”(1716-17)/ Répertoire / Clavecin

If Bach Was A Cellist-The purpose of the series if Bach was a cellist is to live...(+)
If Bach Was A Cellist-The purpose of the series if Bach was a cellist is to live the fantasy that everything Bach wrote he wrote for the cello. The concerto in D minor (BWV 1043) for two violins string orchestra and continuo by Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) is one of his most loved works. Indeed the slow movement may be one of the most popular and loved pieces in the instrumental literature. Traditionally it is believed to have been written in Köthen where he held the position of 'fürstlischer Kapellmeister' from 1717-1723 a town that saw the birth of the Brandenburg concertos and the solo works for violin and cello. The Dorian church mode (the absent Bflat in the key of Dminor) would also speak for the younger Bach. Recent research however has shown that the orchestral parts carefully written out by Bach himself and found among the papers of his son Carl Philip Emanuel date from around 1730. The sophistication of the composition also speaks for a later date than Köthen. The original score has been lost.Always in need of concert material for his 'Collegium Musicus' in Leipzig Bach made a version of the present concerto for two harpsichords (BWV 1062). The original key was transposed to C minor so that the top note would not exceed a D but remain within the range of a standard harpsichord. Another C minor concerto (BWV 1060) for two harpsi-chords often heard in an arrangement from the 1920's for violin and oboe by Max Schneider and Max Seiffert speaks for two concertos in D minor for two violins by Bach. When arranging an orchestral score for the pianoforte one has to remember that a double-bass sounds an octave lower than notated. This is a welcomed fact when dealing with two instruments that play the original solo parts an octave down. At the same time for a transcription of this kind the ambition must be to avoid the cello soloists playing in octaves with the violin tutti parts - which is what would happen were they to share the same material. This ambition made a piano reduction

The present reduction derives from the critical edition of the score published in this catalog in 2002 (PR 1362). Although it is not possible to establish with certainty the time and the occasion for which it was composed - between the end of 1716 and beginning of 1717 - the Gloria RV 589 is the best known among the works Vivaldi wrote on this subject, enough to be considered the Gloria by Vivaldi. The critical edition is based on the only source available, the autograph full score now kept at the National University Library of Turin, Codex Giordano 32. It restores the famous Vivaldi text based on the revised criteria by the Committee of the Critical Edition. The volume includes a synthetic introduction of the historical context and a choice of the critical Notes to the musical text. / Voix Et Piano

The present volume contains all three settings by Vivaldi of the Marian antiphon Salve Regina that have come down to us. All three are for solo voice: soprano in the case of RV 617, and contralto in that of RV 616 and RV 618. The last two settings are scored for two instrumental cori and introduce woodwind instruments, respectively a flute and a pair of oboes, whereas the instrumentation of the first is confined to strings disposed in a single coro, although a solo violin is employed in three movements. RV 617, preserved in a non-autograph source in Brno, belongs to Vivaldi's first period of sacred music composition at the Pietà (1713-1717), while RV 616 and RV 618 are works of his maturity dating from the years around 1730. RV 617 is laid out in four movements, RV 616 and 618 in six movements. All three works are noteworthy for the tenderness of their expression and skilful writing for both the voice and the instruments. The Introduction and Critical Commentary for these vocal scores, prepared by Antonio Frigé, are closely based on those of the Critical Editions by Michael Talbot, published in 1998, 1990 and 1994. / Niveau : Intermédiaire / Classique / Répertoire / Chant et Piano

Johann Sebastian Bach most likely composed the Chromatic Fantasia and Fugue during his stay in Kothen between 1717 and 1723. Originally written for the harpsichord the work was duly recognized as a masterpiece within its ownera.Néstor Ausqui has taken extraordinary measures in creating a guitar transcription of this monumental piece. The fundamental tonality of D minor was retained to preserve the work?s sonority and the 6thstring of the guitar had to be lowered to D to expand the guitar?s range and adhere to the original key.The articulation of the piece often requires the use of the slur technique to maintain and enhance thelegato effect in the melodic line. As the guitar has a more percussive character than the harpsichord various inconveniences occur in the management or execution of the legato but the transcriber has done his best to preservethe character of the original piece.Ausqui admits that the most arduous task was the fingering of the piece. He had to familiarize himself with Bach?s intentions and avoid shortcuts and aberrations which wouldhave depleted the original harmonies and melodies. In the process he discovered that utilization of the open strings can subtly enhance the balance of right and left-hand duties to achieve the timbre the original scoremandates.Written in standard notation only with each line of music forming only one measure this piece is meant for the classical guitarist willing to accept an interpretive challenge to reap enormous musicalbenefits.

Ed. Critica M. Talbot - Riduzione Per Canto E Pianoforte Di A. Frigé. Par VIVALDI ANTONIO. RV 588 is Vivaldi’s ‘other’ Gloria, a composition having many parallels with Vivaldi’s better-known setting of the same text (RV 589). It dates similarly from the period 1713-1717, when the composer was acting choirmaster at the Ospedale della Pietà in Venice. It even borrows from the same work, a slightly earlier Gloria by the Venetian amateur composer Giovanni Maria Ruggieri, for its closing fugue. However, the present Gloria, RV 588, departs from its more famous counterpart in ingeniously combining its opening movement with the final movement of a specially designed introductory motet, Jubilate o amoeni chori (RV 639/639a), for solo contralto (or soprano) and strings, although Vivaldi makes it possible, through optional cuts indicated in the autograph manuscript in Turin, to perform the Gloria alone. With or without its Introduzione, RV 588 is a masterly work with many memorable moments, not least in its heartfelt second movement set to the words “Et in terra pax”. The Introduction and Critical Commentary for this vocal score prepared by Antonio Frigé are closely based on those of the Critical Edition by Denis Arnold and Michael Talbot, published in 1990.

Cantata for the First Sunday of Advent. Par TELEMANN GEORG PHILIPP. The cantata Nun Komm Der Heiden Heiland (TVWV 1:1174) is taken from Telemann ’s cantata cycle of 1717–18. Though festively scored for two Oboes, two Trumpets, Kettledrums, Strings and Basso Continuo, it will not overly strain the financial resources of today’s ensembles. The well-known chorale tune features prominantly in all choruses. Telemann gives one aria each to the three soloists (SAB). Thanks to the relatively small instrumental ensemble, the choral passages can be taken one to a part. The vocal score appears with a singing translation in English. - Urtext based on the latest scholarly research. - Straightforwardand easy-to-play Keyboard reduction. - Duration: approx. 15 minutes. - Singing translation in English - Vocal score (BA7677-90) and performance material (BA7677) available for sale./ Répertoire / Solistes, Choeur Mixte (SATB) et Orchestre

Critical edition by Michael Talbot. The vast majority of violin sonatas from Vivaldi's time, including those of Vivaldi himself, have come down to us in the form of a score employing two staves: one for violin, and one for bass. This guarantees that, although portions of the work may be missing, what survives is textually complete. Exceptionally, five of Vivaldi's violin sonatas are preserved solely in a partbook for violin held by the Diözesanarchiv, Graz, the complementary part for cello having disappeared. The sonatas appear to date from the period between the Dresden group (1716-1717) and the Manchester set (c. 1726). Three of the sonatas, which all have four movements, possess partial concordances in other sources, with which they share two or three movements, but two of them - RV 11 and RV 37 - have so far been found only in Graz (with the exception of an incipit for RV 11 found in a contemporary thematic catalogue). This critical edition makes these two works available for study and performance. The bass part is an editorial reconstruction, and there is in addition a realization of the continuo by the editor. / Violon Et Basse Continue

Für Flöte Und Klavier Bearbeitet Von Elisabeth Weinzierl / Edmund Wächter. Par MARAIS MARIN. Marin Marais, the legendary gambist at the court of Louis XIV, mainly left works for his own instrument, which are entirely in the French ‘taste’. Marais points out that, although his works are written for viola da gamba, they can equally be playedon flute, violin or other melody instrument. Five pieces from his “Quatrième Livre de Viole” are presented here in arrangements for flute and piano. These are based on a 1917 English edition for string instruments, which lends the dances a certainromantic charm. The original articulation and dynamics from Marais’ first edition of 1717 have been carefully reintroduced. / Niveau : Intermédiaire / Répertoire / Flûte Traversière et Piano

MANUSCRIPT VOL.2 Guitare Doberman
