Like his subsequent non-certo For Marcos Balter – also composed during the upheavals, political and otherwise, of the year 2020 – Tyshawn Sorey's For Roscoe Mitchell for cello and orchestra is a single-movement work that imagines a non-adversarial, non-hierarchical relationship between the soloist and the ensemble. The 20-minute piece is named in admiration of Sorey's friend and collaborator Roscoe Mitchell, the Chicago-based bandleader, composer, educator, and performer. Cellist Seth Parker Woods gave the world premiere in November 2020 alongside conductor David Robertson and the Seattle Symphony, who commissioned the piece.

In this volume we wanted to investigate the intersection between the Industrial Revolution and the aesthetic-musical field. In particular, we aimed to explore the European dimension of the cultural exchanges caused by the phenomenon of musical migration, together with the international relationships generated by the music printing industry, entrepreneurship and the market for musical instruments. The later eighteenth and earlier nineteenth centuries were a time of fundamental change in European life, proceeding from the revolutionary implications of the ideologies of Enlightenment, and reverberating in market economies, methods of manufacturing and agriculture, modes of travel, and population distribution. The development of new technologies resulted in the enlargement and improvement of the music printing industry, and in the widespread diffusion of music in private and public spheres. The Industrial Revolution brought about the ‘modernization†™ of productive processes and, as a consequence, engendered a kind of ‘globalization†™ of the musical market.

Cosmopolita della musica, che ha inteso riunire nella città natale dell’autore i maggiori esperti di Clementi in occasione del 250° anniversario della nascita del compositore.
I numerosi interventi del symposium si sono articolati in complessive 4 sezioni (Muzio Clementi nel 250^o anniversario della nascita; Clementi: un romano a Londra; L’altro Clementi; Clementi e la «Wiener Klassik»), svoltesi presso la sede dell’Istituto Storico Austriaco (5 e 6 dicembre).
La manifestazione ha messo in luce soprattutto la dimensione europea degli interscambi culturali dovuti al fenomeno delle migrazioni dei musicisti, dei rapporti internazionali inerenti all’editoria, all’impresariato e al commercio degli strumenti a tastiera.

The present volume contains the Psalmi Davidis Poenitentiales, seven penitential psalms that had already been supplemented with the motet Laudate Dominum de coelis in the first edition (1584). In the Complete Edition, however, the compilation is preceded by the vocal piece S u Su p e r per Super (1567), which experiments with syllables. Though reprinted many times, it was assigned to various genres according to its place of publication: while the piece was considered as a motet in Germany, in France it was classified as a chanson and in Italy as a madrigal a unique case in the reception history of vocal music in the 16th century. To this day we still do not know the significance of the vocal text Super flumina Babylonis, which gradually evolves out of syllables. Perhaps Lasso wanted to depict a biblical scene that evokes the gradual learning of a language.
