Górecki's Church Songs, based on melodies from Rev Jan Siedlecki's ?piewniki Ko?cielne ('church songbooks'), were composed in 1986. This edition is based on the PWM edition of 2013, which was produced with the assistance of Anna Górecka and Miko?aj Górecki. A special feature of the Boosey publications is the new, alternative Latin sung text by Edward Tambling, which will be attractive to the many choirs who do not wish to sing in Polish. The Latin text is carefully crafted to fit Górecki's score and is both poetic and sensitive to the devotional aspect of the songs. English translations from the Polish are also included, for reference only.The three publications present the songs for sacred use according to devotional subject-matter. In concert performances the songs, or a selection of them, may be performed in any order and combination. Vol 1 contains six songs in praise of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The seven songs in vol 2 take the themes of Good Friday, the Crucifixion, The Cross of Christ and the Resurrection. Par HAYDN JOSEPH. Only eleven of the over one hundred symphonies by Joseph Haydn are composed in a minor key. Written in the early 1770s, the Symphony Hob.I:52 in C minor bears some similarities to the slightly earlier Symphony in E minor Hob.I:44 (?Mourning?, BA 10988), not only because they both are composed in a minor key but also because they both feature a pair of horns tuned at different pitches. Haydn seems to have experimented with differently tuned horns inspired by an article in Johann Adam Hiller?s journal ?Musikalische Nachrichten und Anmerkungen? of July 1770, which suggested to tune the horns a minor third apart in order to expand the total horn range. While Haydn followed this recommendation just like that in the E-minor symphony, he chose to have the horns tuned a major sixth apart (high C and E-flat) in the outer movements of the C-minor symphony Hob. I:52, resulting in an unusual horn sound within the orchestral texture. In continuation of the collaboration between Bärenreiter and G. Répertoire liturgique / Partition / La parution originale des psaumes-chorals aux Éditions du Cerf date de 1956. Soit une année avant la mort de Joseph Samson. Joseph Gelineau, qui venait de composer ses Vingt-quatre psaumes (1953), s'était rendu à Dijon pour convaincre Joseph Samson de s'atteler lui-même à une tâche similaire. Celui-ci, bien que peu favorable à l'usage du français dans la liturgie, se laissa gagner voire enthousiasmer. `Les psaumes chorals`, organisent un dialogue permanent entre l'assemblée (accompagné par l?orgue) et le ch?ur polyphonique, en reprenant une même mélodie qui se transforme et s'adapte aux différents versets du psaume. Un hommage à ce musicien d'exception à l'occasion du 50e anniversaire de sa mort.
