Par FAURE GABRIEL. This edition of Salve Regina by Gabriel Faure is a version of this Marian hymn for a SABT accompanied by the Piano or the Organ, arranged by Henri Busser. This features lyrics in Latin, and can be sung by two or four voices also accompanied by Violin or Cello ad libitum. This lyrical piece is quite slow (tempo 66) and the Organ score does not feature any pedals: the difficulty could meet the skills of upper intermediate level players. Five verses can be distinguished in the whole piece and its polytonal aspects make it sound really rich and harmonious. Gabriel Faure (1845-1924) was a French composer, organist, pianist and teacher. He was one of the greatest composers among his peers and strongly influenced all the following generations of composers. The music of small forms was what the French composer Gabriel Fauré (1845-1924) focused on.In 1874, after many years spent in the 'provinces', the teacher of Camille Saint-Saëns took the position of organist in Paris; later he not only worked as a church musician but also as a teacher. In the summer of 1887 Fauré wrote his Pavane Op. 50, originally intended for a concert providing light entertainment, which soon gained wide popularity as an orchestral setting with and without the chorus added by Fauré. The romantic, slightly melancholy melody is a catchy tune which, thanks to the present arrangement, can now also be performed soloistically with piano accompaniment.

This volume of 'oeuvres complètes de Gabriel Fauré” contains Fauré's four secular choral works in their orchestral arrangements, namely 'Les Djinns”, 'La Naissance de Vénus”, 'Madrigal”, and 'Pavane”. These works were composed between 1876 and 1887 - thereafter Fauré wrote choral compositions based only on sacred texts. The first three works are presented here for the first time in a full score edition, previously having been published only in their versions with piano accompaniment. This edition is therefore the first to present the works with an authoritative musical text based on the careful study of the sources. 'Les Djinns” (1876-76) for mixed choir and orchestra is based on the famous poem by Victor Hugo first published in the collection 'Les Orientales”, while 'La Naissance de Vénus” (1882) for soloists, choir and orchestra is based on a text by Paul Collin. They collaborated during the summer of 1881 to compose Messe Des Pêcheurs De Villerville and the first performance was in aid of the fisherman's charitable association. The Mass comprises five movements; 1) Kyrie, 2) Gloria Benedictus, 3) Sanctus, 4) O Salutaris, and 5) Agnus Dei. Messe Des Pêcheurs De Villerville is a Missa Brevis for female choir accompanied by chamber orchestra.
