talian composer, Domenico Scarlatti (1685-1757) is well-known for his Keyboard compositions. His 555 Keyboard Sonatas remain ever popular to this day, and it is for this reason that this second volume is indispensable toperformers of the genre. Originally composed for the Harpsichord, Organ or early Pianoforte, the Sonatas display the riveting use of discords and unconventional modulations to remote keys. It is also thought that much ofScarlatti\'s Keyboard music contains influences of Iberian music, considering that he spent much of his working life in the service of the Spanish and Portuguese royal families. The second volume, comprising Sonatas 53-103,includes the popular and recognised Sonatas in F minor (K. 69) and B minor (K. 87). Complete Works for Keyboard Publication Date: 2007 Pages: pp. 144 The third volume of Alessandro Scarlatti?s complete works comprises ms. MM 60 kept at the Coimbra University Library (Biblioteca Geral da Universidade de Coimbra, Portugal ? Secção dos Reservados). The -manuscript contains pieces specifically ascribed to Scarlatti, as the title in c. 61r shows: Sonate / Per / ORGANO / Del / Sig.r / Alesandro Scarlatti. The section following a new heading in c. 107r ? TOCCATE / per Organo ? can also be considered Scarlatti?s work. a confirmation of this assessment stems from cc. 107v-109v, Toccata, and 109v-110v, Fuga in G major, both of which pieces also feature in the Higgs ms. (New Haven, Yale University, Misc. Ms. 164) as well as in ms. Add. 32161 (London, British Library) and, moreover, the same Toccata is also comprised in ms. 3958 in Münster?s Diözesanbibliothek (Santini Collection). The extensive initial section in ms. MM 60 cc. 1r-38v, with no indication of authorship, is included in an Addendum. its excellent-quality musical writing is perfectly in keeping with Alessandro Scarlatti?s style, though at the moment the music cannot be attributed to him with any degree of certainty. the music resembles some of Gaetano Franzaroli?s Risposte d?Organo, also comprised in the same manuscript.

Par SCARLATTI DOMENICO. Eagerly awaited by countless pianists: a fourth Urtext volume with a selection of pieces from Domenico Scarlatti's vast sonata output. Whereas in the three collections HN 395, 451 and 476 there is about an equal number of often played and rarely played pieces that were sure to reward the inquisitive, Volume IV is a compilation of 'the best of Scarlatti”. In spite of the legendary fair copies from Venice and Parma that constitute the sources, the Scarlatti transmission remains complicated and rich in variants - a circumstance that we account for with a footnote apparatus. Even in these often played sonatas there are many surprising discoveries to be made. Scarlatti Volume IV - a treasure chest of Baroque keyboard gems!/ Répertoire / Piano

Toccatas and various compositions (Biblioteca Nazionale di Torino, Fondo Foà-Giordano Mss. 394 and 401) Editors: Andrea Macinanti, Francesco Tasini Series: Alessandro Scarlatti. Complete Works for Keyboard Publication Date: Second Edition 2007 Pages: pp. 120 There are very few modern editions available of keyboard music by Alessandro Scarlatti (Palermo, 1660 ? Napoli, 1725): two facsimiles of 18th century manuscripts ? one kept in Naples and the other in Modena ? and a few 20th-century editions which are difficult to obtain. While manuscript sources are awkward to play from because of frequent imprecisions, modern editions are sometimes unreliable due to editorial intervention which, in some cases, modifies the original text. Two notable exceptions are constituted by J. S. Shedlock?s, as well as R. Gerlin ? C. Sartori?s editions, for their modern methodological approach. However, both of these editions were based on a single manuscript, without there having been a comparative analysis of the numerous existing sources of Scarlatti?s keyboard music. This constitutes a severe restriction, because the analysis of individual manuscripts results in the realization that every single source has fundamental limitations: in the first place, none contains the entire corpus of his keyboard works, and, furthermore, none is devoid of errors. Only a comparative analysis of all sources justifies intervention in ambiguous passages, and at the same time indicates the criteria for not making arbitrary corrections in the case of durezze. In short, the comparison of variations in the text results in the choice of the best possible solution. Thanks to the extensive research conducted by Andrea Macinanti and Francesco Tasini, the Urtext of the complete edition of Alessandro Scarlatti?s keyboard works will finally be available for both musicians and musicologists.

Originally composed for the Harpsichord, Organ or early Pianoforte, the Sonatas display the riveting use of discords and unconventional modulations to remote keys. It is also thought that much of Scarlatti 's Keyboard music contains influences of Iberian music, considering that he spent much of his working life in the service of the Spanish and Portuguese royal families. This first volume, comprising Sonatas 1-52, includes the popular and recognised Sonatas in D minor (K. 9), E major (K. 20) and B minor (K. 27). Bearing in mind that Domenico Scarlatti was a highly competent and popular Keyboard player in his day, so much so that he was employed in the service of two royal families, his Sonatas are composed with much experience, understanding and expertise, creating an essential addition to the repertoire of all Keyboard players of the Baroque genre./ Répertoire / Clavier

Alessandro Scarlatti (1660 – 1725) was an Italian Baroque composer especially famous for his operas and chamber cantatas. He is even considered the founder of the Neapolitan school of opera. Scarlatti's music forms an important link between the early Baroque Italian vocal styles of the 17th century with their centres in Florence Venice and Rome and the Classical school of the 18th century. His legacy was carried further by his two composer sons Domenico Scarlatti and Pietro Filippo Scarlatti. Three Sonatas For Double Bass are slightly simplified in this arrangement to be tackled by intermediate players (Grade 4-6) of the DoubleBass and the Piano. The Baroque tunes and rhythms will help to advance playing abilities in a highly enjoyable way.
