As a tuba teacher in primary and secondary schools of music and a lecturer on the Instrumental Department of Cracow Academy of Music for many years, I have encountered considerable difficulty in acquiring sheet music for this instrument. Hence I have prepared my own exercises, studies and arrangements suitable for teaching the tuba to pupils and students. Some of that material is contained in this collection. The studies presented here are not virtuosic works, as I was anxious to ensure that they would be first and foremost accessible to the player, especially during the early years of tuition in schools and brass bands. Some of them have proved useful also for students. I hope that this edition will go some way to filling the gap in the teaching literature for tuba and helicon. Mozart wrote the five Divertimenti for Wind Sextet between the years 1775 and 1777 when he was living in Salzburg. The first version of the Sonata for violin and piano was written in the autumn of 2008, when I had the opportunity to work with the violinist Robert Bachara, who was pursuing his doctoral studies at Wroclaw Music Academy. A few years later, around the turn of 2016, I revised the musical material, made some changes and shortened the work. It was then that Dr Jacek Ropski, a lecturer at the music academy, took an interest in the Sonata. In January 2016 we produced a recording of this composition, which helped with his post-doctoral studies. I would like to express my profound gratitude to Dr Jacek Ropski for his invaluable musical and performance remarks, which led to the present form of the Sonata for violin and piano. I am also grateful to Professor Bartosz Bryla of Poznan Music Academy for his very favourable review of this composition and warm words of support for its publication. Beethoven completed his String Quartet Op.135 at Wasserdorf Castle in Gneixenhof, where he sought to recuperate with his nephew Karl after the latter?s failed suicide attempt in summer 1826. It stands out among his late quartets owing to the often cheerful, almost pastoral character of its four movements. Since Beethoven?s death it has often been interpreted as an attempt to take wise and positive stock of the mishaps that had befallen him in the preceding years regarding his life situation, family and health. This interpretation is strongly suggested by the final movement, ?Der schwer gefasste Entschluss? (The Difficult Decision), with its motto ?Must it be' It must be! It must be!? The editing of this quartet proved especially complex, for the authentic sources were reworked at various stages by the composer. With the new Urtext Primo series, the Wiener Urtext Edition wants to close the gap arising at the point of transition to additional lessons after having studied a piano method. Beginning with a performance level which is outlined by pieces such as Bach's Minuet in G (BWV Anh. 116), Mozart's Minuet in F (KV 5) or Schumann's Wilder Reiter (Op. 68/8), works by three different composers are selected for each volume of the Urtext Primo series, with the aim of offering piano pupils (or even adults who want to resume piano playing) a wide range of repertoire pieces on the basis of which they can enhance their technical and musical skills. The pieces' range of levels of difficulty is relatively narrow so that the volume can be used continuously over a period of about two years. This is what distinguishes the Urtext Primo approach from almost all common anthologies. The selected repertoire takes into account not only pieces of the classic canon of lessons, but also lesser known works which are in no way of less importance for piano lessons. The Urtext Primo volumes are published in the internationally recognised standard of the Wiener Urtext editions. The explanations included in each volume shall help to deepen the knowledge of musical styles, music history and piano playing.
