This popular march was written for the film 'The Dam Busters' about the wartime exploits of the R.A.F.'s 617 squadron and their attempts to destroy the dams in Germany's industrial heartland using the 'bouncing bomb' a secret weapon invented by Barnes-Wallis. No secret weapons are required to perform this arrangement just a reasonably able orchestra! Saxophone parts are provided as alternatives (or additions) to the horn parts. Jean-Michel Defaye’s Suite Marine is a really nice set of six pieces portraying sea animals. Written for Bb Saxhorn Bass Tuba or Euphonium with Piano accompaniment these six pieces are of medium/high difficulty. Each piece tries to re-create the main characteristics of the animal depicted such as their weight using the low range of the instruments and their speed with the Dolphin being faster and lighter than the Sea Lion for example. The Tuba Concerto was composed in 1953/4 after the London Symphony Orchestra invited Vaughan Williams to write a work for inclusion in the Orchestra’s fiftieth anniversary concert. The first performance was given by Philip Catelinet in the Royal Festival Hall London on 13th June 1954 with the London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Sir John Barbirolli.The brass band arrangement is by Phillip Littlemore and is a welcome addition to the brass band repertoire.
