Par BACH JOHANN SEBASTIAN. Practical performing Urtext edition based on the latest state of Bach research. Every era hears and interprets Bach anew, and every era also evaluates the sources afresh and with new eyes. 40 years after the publication of the St. Matthew Passion in the New Bach Edition, Klaus Hofmann, Director of the Johann Sebastian Bach Institute Göttingen for many years and a contributing editor to the New Bach Edition, presents a new edition. Hofmann has placed the study of the sources at the service of musical practice and the detailed investigation of Bach’s intentions. Bach scholars are well aware that Bach’s original score and performance parts, running to almost 500 pages of music, are full of ambiguities and contradictions, particularly regarding articulation, which constantly challenge performers to new interpretations. Hofmann discusses these and other problems in a concise critical report, frequently arriving at new conclusions in the process. Extensive notes about parallel passages offer valuable help for interpretation. Special attention was devoted to the performance material with regard to practical needs. Thus, for example the text incipits are also printed in the instrumental parts (including tacet passages). In short - an Urtext edition for practical performance based on the latest findings in Bach research. J. S. Bach's St Matthew Passion BWV 244 for SATB and Piano. Arranged for Medium-Low Voice with Piano accompaniment. Most of the arias in this collection were written in the 1600s and 1700s by composers who were intent on expressing their feelings and entertaining their listeners. They wrote for the present and didn't write many instructions for their performers as they would always be present when their music was performed. However the success of their music transcended their lifetimes and over the years editions have become nothing like their original forms. This edition seeks to return to the composers' original intentions and produce an authoritative and faithful re-production of their works.Includes an accompanying CDof professionally recorded backing tracks.

Piano Jobert

For nearly 150 years Jean-Baptiste Arban's 14 studies have been an essential part of a brass player's practice routine. Arban's original parts contain many inaccuracies and inconsistencies and whilst there was no intention here of creating an 'Urtext' edition the editors have attempted to make each study's phrasing articulation and where necessary dynamics consistent with itself without losing the character and intentions of Arban's manuscript. The decision therefore was to not add dynamics at the beginning of studies where Arban has omitted them as you will quickly discover the right dynamic (for you) on practising the piece. You may also as performer wish tochange or ignore the included suggestions for that is what they are and you must feel free to do so.This edition includes imaginative Piano accompaniments written to reflect the nature of the solo part and enhance the soloist's practice whilst lending these studies also to the concert repertoire. The CD that accompanies this edition contains John Alley's accompaniments in three tempi. One for slow practice one for general performance and then one for the virtuoso! Also included are stylish performances of all 14 studies by leading UK trumpeter Paul Mayes. In order to produce an artistically cohesive CD his performances are a mix of the two featured performance tempi.

In the autumn of 1974 György Kurtág began to copy selected pieces from the series Games into a music notebook for Zoltán Kocsis who had been his student in earlier years and who, even today, is one of its most authentic performers. Kocsis played from this notebook in the first public performance of Games in 1974. The gradually expanding series of piano pieces also appeared in print in the course of later decades- however, since then he has used this collection - expanded over 32 years since by Kurtág - whenever he plays pieces from Games in concert. Since the time of this 1974 concert, as he writes: I didnt know that the spiral notebook I received at the premi?re would later become, as it were, my permanent companion. That I would take it with me from Japan to Canada, from Australia to Iceland, travelling to the worlds most prominent concert halls, surviving fire damage, flood, transport catastrophes, theft attempts, forced landings and so on, and that - well beyond the intention of its being copied with love - it would include works and sketches for which this notebook would become the principal source. The manuscript gives a glimpse into Kurtágs workshop from the viewpoint of both performers and musicologists. The former can understand more from Kurtágs handwriting about the composers intentions than from the printed score. The musicologists, however, can study the historical origins of the works: some works can be found here in more than one version, others appear in a version different from the printed score. The publication is accompanied by a booklet and a CD supplement. The booklet contains Kocsiss own personal preface, as well as András Wilheims essay providing information about the collection and the pieces contained therein. On the CD we hear 11 works performed by Kocsis, from a recording made in 1982 which has not previously been commercially issued. This edition has been published for György Kurtágs 90th birthday. Tombeau which takes its title from the central elegy of the work was composed 1966-69. Its form is a series of fairly specific technical studies interspersed with variations. The introduction provides a sortof ‘trailer’ in which each phrase of the theme is punctuated by a brief quote from the ensuing studies (heard in reverse order). This scheme is balanced by that of the finale which is also punctuated by short ‘flashbacks’.Tombeau was written as a tribute to certain composers for the piano notably Schumann and Szymanovsky and to a style of playing that has now become almost ‘historic’. It is also a tribute to our beloved masters many of themobscure who made us musicians. It is therefore in many senses a retrospective work the last of a phase undertaken just before a fairly drastic re-evaluation of techniques ideas and intentions. It is dedicated to StephenKovacevich who commissioned it and gave its first performance on the BBC Third Programme and subsequently at Dartington Hall Summer School.

Par MOZART WOLFGANG AMADEUS. Mozart Requiem (K.626) (Ostrzyga completion) (Vocal Score) This publication offers a source-critical edition of Mozart’s fragmentary “Requiem” as well as an alternative to the traditional Süssmayr version. It makes it possible to perform 1) the fragment, identified in print in both the score and the parts, 2) the authentic sections left incomplete by Mozart, now in a stylistically appropriate orchestration, and 3) those sections missing entirely in the fragment, newly added in Mozart’s idiom taking into account historical additions by Süssmayr and Eybler. When completing the fragment, the editor drew on comprehensive comparative and analytical studies of Mozart’s church style and compositional workmanship. The influence of Handel and Bach manifested in his final years, particularly in the “Requiem” fragment, is taken into account in those sections requiring completion or fresh composition. At two points readers may choose between alternative movements (or sections), since proceeding from Süssmayr’s historical version, two divergent options cannot be weighed against each other but each one may well reflect Mozart’s intentions: the “Lacrimosa” may end with or without “Amen” fugue, and the “Sanctus” may begin in the customary D major or in D minor. Above all, this makes it possible to retain the B-flat major “Hosanna” from Süssmayr’s autograph, a movement which, until now, has not been appreciated as compositionally flawless. - Scholarly-critical edition of the “Requiem” fragment - With performance material for presentation of 1) the fragment, 2) a version with completions of the authentic Mozart sections or 3) a full completion consistent with Mozart’s musical idiom - Missing sections were completed by drawing from other fragmentary sacred works by Mozart - Added or completed sections incorporate influences from Bach and Handel already detectable in the fragment - Alternative performance options for the “Lacrimosa”, “Sanctus” and “Benedictus” - Straight-forward piano reduction - Extensive foreword (Ger/Eng) on the work’s history, reception and modern completions, with analytical stylistic critique - Detailed Critical Commentary (Eng), partly available on the Bärenreiter website - Tried and tested on many occasions, e.g. at Harvard University, the Rheingau Music Festival, the Monadnock Music Festival (New Hampshire), in Salt Lake City (Utah), as well as in radio broadcasts (NDR, SWR, WDR) and CD recordings with Concerto Köln, Chorwerk Ruhr and Florian Helgath (“Le Disque classique du jour” from francemusique.fr and three nominations for Opus Klassik 2021 in the categories “Ensemble”, “Choral Recording” and “Editorial Achievement”) - Full Score (BA11310), Vocal Score (BA11310-90) and performance material (BA11310) available for sale / Date parution : 2022-07-20/ Répertoire / Choeur Mixte SATB et Piano

Handel wrote the famous Dixit Dominus with the text of Psalm 109 during his time in Italy in c. 1707. Although he was only 22 years old the work already demonstrates his wide spectrum of compositional abilities which are later fully realized in his operas and oratorios. Central to this work are the six choral movements which with their polyphonic structure are closely related to German choral music of the 17th century. The first Urtext edition BA 4002 based on the Halle Handel Edition was published in 1960. At that time no critical commentary was published so that in cases of doubt the basis on which editorialdecisions were made was not officially recorded. A new complete edition volume (BA 10704/01) due to be published in 2013 will include a detailed foreword providing information on the genesis and the first performance of this work as well as information on the psalm on which this work is based and on performance practice. In addition several facsimiles pages will be included giving a view into the source material. The critical commentary will provide a detailed insight into all the available sources and how they have been passed down. This newly revised Urtext performing edition offers a thorough revision of this frequently-performed work and meets all the requisites of a scholarly-critical edition. Former readings in the old edition regarding a small number of pitches but mostly basso continuo figures and the underlying text have now been able to be amended on the basis of the new findings. In the new edition the work appears in nine movements no longer eight which reflects the composer's intentions. The new performance material is not compatible with the old one.Presented in a revised Urtext editionClear straightforward Piano reduction in the vocal scoreUrtext of the Halle Handel EditionFull score performance material (BA10704) & Vocal score (BA10704-90) available for sale

In subsequent performances this configuration will generally be impossible but the soloist arrangement that was used is included should performers like to respond in some fashion to the original arrangement. E-flat major-Many wholly new corrections in the solo and orchestral parts.Piano reduction with a separate solo part as was customary in Beethoven’s day. With Beethoven’s continuo figures for the first time in a modern edition.Beethoven’s fifth and final Piano Concerto is at the same time the culmination of his efforts in this genre and a reflection of all his artistic skill and expertise. The surviving manuscripts provide a clear insight into his working methods and his intentions regarding the work’s performance. The editor Jonathan Del Mar has closely scrutinised the autograph solo piano part and reproduced Beethoven’ssophisticated performance instructions for the first time in a modern edition. Among other things this has special repercussions for the left-hand figured bass line of the piano part during the tutti passages. As with the Piano Concertos Nos. 1 to 4 the Piano reduction appears with a separate solo part containing all the information needed by the soloist to conduct the ensemble from the Piano.

| Johann Sebastian Bach:
Chromatic Fantasia &
Fugue In D Minor Bwv 903:
Guitar: Guitare - Intermédiaire Mel Bay
Johann Sebastian Bach most likely composed the Chromatic Fantasia and Fugue duri...(+)
Johann Sebastian Bach most likely composed the Chromatic Fantasia and Fugue during his stay in Kothen between 1717 and 1723. Originally written for the harpsichord the work was duly recognized as a masterpiece within its ownera.Néstor Ausqui has taken extraordinary measures in creating a guitar transcription of this monumental piece. The fundamental tonality of D minor was retained to preserve the work?s sonority and the 6thstring of the guitar had to be lowered to D to expand the guitar?s range and adhere to the original key.The articulation of the piece often requires the use of the slur technique to maintain and enhance thelegato effect in the melodic line. As the guitar has a more percussive character than the harpsichord various inconveniences occur in the management or execution of the legato but the transcriber has done his best to preservethe character of the original piece.Ausqui admits that the most arduous task was the fingering of the piece. He had to familiarize himself with Bach?s intentions and avoid shortcuts and aberrations which wouldhave depleted the original harmonies and melodies. In the process he discovered that utilization of the open strings can subtly enhance the balance of right and left-hand duties to achieve the timbre the original scoremandates.Written in standard notation only with each line of music forming only one measure this piece is meant for the classical guitarist willing to accept an interpretive challenge to reap enormous musicalbenefits.
