Paperback-Thomas Attwood Walmisley's setting of Magnificat And Nunc Dimittis in B flat for SSAATTBB Choir and Organ.Organist of Trinity College St John's College and Professor of Music at Cambridge simultaneously Walmisley is known today for his Evening Canticles in D minor and a handful of anthems. This fine double Choir setting was written some ten years before the D minor set and is published to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the composer's birth. There are fewer contrasts of texture than in the later setting but the two choirs are used to great effect with the Gloria starting with striding imitation between Soprano and Tenor(later Alto and Bass) over a pedal point in the Organ.

Arrangement: Scott Daniel.

Intermediate Level 5) Showcase Solo-A spirited recital closer! This energetic showpiece exploits both the full range of the keyboard and the player's palette of pianistic color and articulation. The sprightly sixteenth-note passages in C major are contrasted with awarm lyrical section in E-flat major. A vivid study in staccato/legato contrast two-note phrases use of the damper pedal as a coloristic device and cross-hand notes this piece not only sounds impressive but is great fun toplay. (HLSPL Level 5) piano solo. ABA form; 4/4 meter; Allegro tempo; C major/E-flat major; 101 measures. Timing: 3:20.

Includes Additional Parts In Bass Clef.

Midsummer Marriage: Mixed

Opera in 3 acts-Like few other theatre works—The Magic Flute A Midsummer...(+)
Opera in 3 acts-Like few other theatre works—The Magic Flute A Midsummer Night’s Dream—Tippett’s first opera creates a wholly other place one where human actions can be seen as in a tilted mirror. Since this is indeed an opera the place or dreamspace is conjured by music: by luminescent music that in its flowing abundance radiant harmonies and evocative wind colourings represents the natural world within which the characters have to integrate themselves. The central couple those whose marriage is at first subverted and then gloriously celebrated are Mark and Jenifer: he a young man of the earth and the senses she a young woman of lofty spirituality. Each is only half a person andbefore they can be united they have to be made whole have to find within themselves an understanding of the other. Overseeing their mythic initiation and psychic healing are two Ancients votaries of a temple on a wooded hilltop. As in the Mozart precedent which the composer certainly had in mind there is also a more workaday couple Jack and Bella. The other principals are Jenifer’s businessman father King Fisher who wants to stop the wedding for reasons of his own and an Erda-like seer. There is also a dancer Strephon leading the exuberant ballet in which the orchestra completes the story of enlightenment and passion. It is ultimately a victory of love and before love self-knowledge.(Paul Griffiths)

To A New Dawn was commissioned by the United States Continental Army Band - Captain Timothy J. Holtan Commander and Conductor. The brief was for a piece to celebrate the 3rd Millennium and it was the composer’s aim to provide a work which as well as looking forward to the challenges of the new century also contained moments of reflection about the last one. After a bright introduction featuring the trumpets a perky theme passing quickly through several keys appears on the woodwinds. A solo trumpet takes up a new theme over bubbling quavers (eighth notes) and this leads to a rhythmic figure on low clarinets followed by the upper woodwinds. A brass interlude follows and after ashort bridge passage an oboe takes up a contrasting legato tune that builds to a climax. An andante section follows with solos for horn and flugel horn (or trumpet) and a florid flute cadenza. A passionate climax leads back to the faster music and eventually to a full recapitulation revisiting the earlier material before a lively coda close the work as it began.
