Symphonies. Par RAMEAU JEAN-PHILIPPE. This edition unites all the purely instrumental and dance numbers from one of Rameau?s most popular operas, along with those from his last one-act opéra-ballet ?Io?, which was left unfinished at the time of his death.
?Platée? is the setting of a libretto by Jacques Autreau that Rameau arranged to be adapted for his own purposes, especially with regard to comic effects. In grotesque form, it shows Jupiter curing his wife Juno of her jealousy by feigning a marriage of love with the ugly swamp nymph Platée. Faced with such a ludicrous rival, Juno is forced to admit that her suspicions were unfounded.
The opera was premièred in Versailles in 1745 for the wedding of the Dauphin Louis and Maria Theresia of Spain. The performance was a fiasco, however, for the coarse comedy and bizarre characters were deemed inappropriate by the wedding audience. It was not until 1749 in Paris that ?Platée? achieved its breakthrough, becoming Rameau?s greatest triumph to date. Another version with an altered text was performed from 1754 on.
The plot of the fragmentary ?Io? deals with the amorous relations between the nymph Io and Jupiter in the guise of the shepherd Hylas, who becomes a rival of Apollo, disguised as Philemon. Now the inventive and richly varied orchestral numbers from this cruelly comical bonfire of the vanities can be presented in concert with greater flexibility. / Date parution : 2022-04-05/ Répertoire / Ensemble de Chambre

Tragédie en cinq actes-Rameau’s “Hippolyte Et Aricie” presents nymphs and deities in abject disarray. This trag?die en musique is a fascinating masterpiece by the French baroque composer and the score of the final 1757 version is the result of his many years experience with the theatre. Rameau revised the opera twice after its premi?re in 1733 shortening the original prologue changing several scenes around altering the conclusion of Act 4 and adding a new Act 5. The result was a dramatic structure of far greater coherence and force. The new scholarly-critical edition published in Rameau’s Operaomnia is the first to make use of all available sources: the full score and incomplete parts for the Paris performances as well as manuscript prepared for the Biblioth?que Royale under the supervision of the copyist Brice. Urtext edition from the Rameau edition 'Opera omnia'. Full score (BA8853 and Vocal score (BA8853-90) available for sale. Performance material (BA8853-72) available for hire.

Ballet héroïque en un prologue et quatre actes-?Za s? was Rameau?s first opera...(+)
Ballet héroïque en un prologue et quatre actes-?Za s? was Rameau?s first opera which was entirely devoted to ?la féerie? the enchanted world of myth from the Middle East with its spirits and fantastic creatures. It was first performed on 29 February 1748 at the Paris Opera and was much praised for its expressive power elegance and variety of its music as well as for the charm of its ballet. Although the libretto by Louis de Cahusac was criticised the delightful work proved very popular: it was revived in 1761 and 1769 and for more than two decades received over 100 performances. Like most of Rameau?s operas ?Za s? was extensively revised during the composer?s lifetime and afterwards. Revisions already beganduring the first rehearsals and continued until the first performance. The composer and the librettist Cahusac finally used the Easter period in 1748 to work on those revisions; as well as structural changes and musical substitutions these included some substantial additions to vocal and instrumental movements. The version which was performed after Easter is more convincing both musically and dramatically. In contrast the revivals of 1761 and 1769 the first after Cahusac?s death the second after Rameau?s contained drastic cuts including the entire prologue. For the new volume in the ?Opera Omnia Rameau? the version from Easter 1748 has been chosen as the primary source. For performances a choice can be made between this and the original version; a series of insertions links all the passages with another.

Ballet héroïque in a prologue and 3 acts-With a brief foreword (Fr/Eng) contai...(+)
Ballet héroïque in a prologue and 3 acts-With a brief foreword (Fr/Eng) containing salient information on the genesis of the work the synopsis and the edition. Les F'tes de l?Hymen et de l?Amour was performed on 15 March 1747 on the occasion of the second marriage of the Dauphin Louis Ferdinand de Bourbon and Maria Josepha of Saxony in the Man'ge de la Grande 'curie in Versailles. This second collaboration between Rameau and Cahusac makes use of the ?ballet h'ro'que? genre usually known today as ?op'ra-ballet? based on various story lines which run independently of each other. The score is based on a libretto inspired byEgyptian mythology and freemasonry. Rameau's ?Les F'tes de l'Hymen et de l'Amour? was long considered second-rate because its premi're was associated with a political event. Yet this ballet abounds in novel dramaturgical effects that foreshadow his later operas such as ?Za's? ?Zoroastre? and ?Les Bor'ades?. Working together with his librettist Cahusac Rameau sought to weave the dance numbers choruses and stage machinery more tightly into the main plot. He also experimented with stylistic devices unique to this work the most famous being unquestionably the scene in which the Nile overflows its banks (an impressive ten-voice double chorus with solo voices and orchestra) and the sextet from ?Aru'ris? a scoring found nowhere else in his ?uvre. For the first time this scholarly-critical edition of ?Les F'tes de l'Hymen et de l'Amour? presents a reference version of the work that is based on all the major sources for both the libretto and the music including two recent musical discoveries. As most of the performance material for the premi're has vanished this edition is based on the version prepared for the Acad'mie Royale de Musique in 1748.

Edition Complète. Par RAMEAU JEAN-PHILIPPE. Rameau's only surviving opera based on a libretto by Voltaire has survived in two versions (1745 and 1746), whereby the 1745 version was long considered lost. Volume IV.12 of the series ?Opera omnia Rameau? presents a complete edition which enables performances of both versions.
Voltaire refers to Metastasio in his libretto in that he wishes to liberate the opera from the gallant milieu and to make it a moralizing stage work that is equally edifying and political. After a prologue dedicated to envy personified, the tyrants Bélus and Bacchus are chased out of the Hall of Fame and finally Trajan is crowned with laurels for defeating the rebels, forgiving them and ultimately turning the Hall of Fame into a public temple.
The music contains many remarkable passages, such as a richly orchestrated overture, the famous monologue ?Profonds abîmes du Ténare? with obbligato bassoons, and Trajan's artful final scene ?Ramage d'oiseaux?./ Répertoire / Chant et Orchestre

This critical evaluation focuses chiefly on Rameau's musical works devoting entire chapters to his operas and ballets as well as his chamber music cantatas and motets and minor works. Additional topics include his links to Lully his influence on Gluck and the nature and importance of hisacoustic and harmonic theories.
Dr. Michel Verschaeve
* Avis très important :

Pastorale héroïque in three acts - Paperback-The genre pastorale h?ro?que is a legacy of the grand si?cle of Louis XIV. However in the 18th century it only rarely reached the stage. But in the second period of his career Rameau turned to this genre again: the more unconventional world of shepherds and nymphs gave him greater freedom in terms of dramatic action stage d?cor and musical virtuosity compared to the trag?die lyrique. This is demonstrated to masterly effect in Acanthe Et C?phise (1751) where even the ballets are fully integrated into the plot.
