According to the traditional interpretation the notebook was given to Wolfgang as a present on his seventh birthday Oct. 31st 1762 from his father Leopold. Wolfgang Plath writes in the preface to volume IX/27/1 of the Neue Mozart-Ausgabe (p.IX): 'The dedication inscription allegedly written by Leopold Mozart and dated 31. Oktober 1762 turned out to be a crude forgery. There remained an anomymous piano- and music-book from about 1750 of Central German provenance without any relationship to Mozart.'

Lucio Silla K. 135Dramma per musica in three actsOn 13 December 1769 Leopold Mozart and his son Wolfgang set out on their first tour of Italy. It was not until 28 March 1771 that they finally returned to Salzburg. The trip brought the young composer two commissions for opere serie. In March 1770 he was commissioned to write Mitridate K.87 (74a) for the 1770–71 Carneval season at the Regio Ducal Teatro in Milan. Mozart started work on the opera in Bologna on 29 September 1770 and the première duly took place on the Feast of St. Stephen (26 December) in 1770. The second Lucio Silla (K. 135) again commissioned for the 1771–72 Carneval season inMilan doubtless resulted from the success of Mitridate. News of the commission reached the Mozarts in March 1771 in Verona where they had stopped on their return to Salzburg. (At roughly the same time Wolfgang received an invitation from Vienna to supply a serenata teatrale for the wedding of Archduke Ferdinand the third son of Maria Theresia scheduled to take place in Milan in October 1771. Intermediate-level arrangements of well-known Classical and Romantic works. Par AUTEURS DIVERS / BROOKER DAVID (Arr.). In his preface to 'Piano Trios on Stage, the arranger, David Brooker, reminds us that, just as the string quartet, the piano trio has always been one of the pillars of chamber music. In the 19th and early 20th century, it was almost like the later invention of the gramophone record, allowing larger works, in arrangement, as well as lighter pieces to be presented to small audiences, often as background music.
David comments that string players have plenty of easy material to introduce them to the pleasure of making music with other instrumentalists but when it comes to piano parts these are usually written or arranged with a teacher or more advanced student in mind. David sets out to rectify that imbalance and his arrangements aim to put all three players on an equal footing.
