The transcriptions are most successful: idiomatic and allowing plenty of scope for colourful registrations. Harmonically the music is dissonant yet accessible; themes are engaging and well developed. The fifth is the most extended an inventive dancing scherzo coupling sliding chromaticism with a fierce inner rhythmic drive. This would make an excellent set for theadventurous recitalist but could equally be played individually in a liturgical setting.' - Sunday by Sunday
