The Pieces Characteristiques are amongst the most compact as well as the most stylistically varied of Bach's keyboard works. Many of the pieces it has been established were originally arranged as sonatinas for keyboard and orchestra. This volume includes five facsimiles of contemporary manuscripts with a preface from the editor Christopher Hogwood.
