But that uncertainty hit performing artists the hardest because it effectively shut down our professional lives entirely. As the year went on, I quickly found that I had to cope in a creative way with all the strange and powerful emotions that each new uncertainty brought. And this piece, Concerto for Clarinet and Orchestra, was the result of such mental self-care.'
