Crazy with the Blues contains solid ensemble writing that is designed to sound full and complete with as little as three saxes (AAT), two trumpets, one trombone, and rhythm section. There are no solos to worry about at all, and rhythm section parts are fully notated to assist players with less experience.
A straight-ahead swinger all the way, Crazy with the Blues is essentially a 12-bar blues with slightly altered changes and a bridge. The overall form breaks down as follows: a 12-bar blues that is repeated (AA), and 8-bar bridge (B), and a final section of 12-bar blues (A).
