Pachelbel: Canon in D for Oboe d'Amore & Harp
Instrumental Duet Harp,Instrumental Duet,Oboe d'Amore - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU:…

Instrumental Duet Harp,Instrumental Duet,Oboe d'Amore - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1098840 Composed by Johann Pachelbel. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. Baroque,Classical,Standards,Traditional,Wedding. Score and parts. 11 pages. Jmsgu3 #702688. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1098840). Score: 6 pages. Duration: ca. 2:30 The famous Pachelbel Canon arranged for Oboe d'Amore & Harp. A great choice for weddings & receptions! Pachelbel's Canon Pachelbel's Canon is, in fact, the traditional title for a composition by the German composer Johann Pachelbel. Other names for the work include namely: Canon and Gigue for 3 violins and basso continuo, Canon and Gigue in D, and of course Canon in D. We do not know when or why in particular it was written. The oldest copy is surprisingly from the 19th century. It is important to realize that it was a common routine for organists to practice improvisation on the chord progression underlying the canon. Pachelbel originally scored the Canon notably for three violins and continuo. He also in fact paired the Canon with a gigue. The movements are homotonal, to clarify, both are in the key of D major. History In due time, Pachelbel's Canon went out of style and remained in virtual oblivion for centuries. The Jean-François Paillard chamber orchestra, however, recorded an arrangement of it in 1968. As a result, it gained approval. Many ensembles began likewise to record the piece in the 1970s and by the 1980s became ubiquitous as background music. From the 1970s to the early 2000s, pop songs correspondingly used elements of the piece. The chord progression, in particular, was used this way. Also, since the 1980s, it has been not only wildly popular for weddings, but also for funeral ceremonies in the USA and Europe. Pachelbel Background Johann Pachelbel (1653 –1706) was a German composer, as well as an organist. He was furthermore instrumental in bringing the south German organ school to its apex. He wrote a large body of music, both sacred and, equally important, secular. In particular, he uniquely helped develop the chorale prelude and fugue. For this, he has, in fact, earned a rightful place in the company of the most significant composers of the mid-Baroque period. Works Pachelbel's music was certainly popular. With this in mind, he also consequently had many pupils. His music expressly developed into a model for south German composers. Nowadays, Pachelbel is most famous, particularly for the Canon in D, as well as the F minor Chaconne, the Toccata in E minor, and of course the Hexachordum Apollinis, a set of variations for the keyboard. Influences Johann Jakob Froberger and Johann Caspar Kerll were south German composers who significantly influenced Pachelbel. Furthermore, he was especially influenced by Italians such as Frescobaldi and Poglietti. He frequently preferred an articulate, simple contrapuntal style that highlighted clarity. His music is markedly less extravagant and harmonically adventurous than that of Dieterich Buxtehude. However, as a point often overlooked, like Buxtehude, Pachelbel experimented with different instrumental combinations in his chamber music. Legacy All in all, Pachelbel was most famous as a composer for the keyboard. He composed over two hundred pieces specifically for the instrument. Pachelbel was also surprisingly a prolific composer of vocal music. All in all, about a hundred vocal works survive, including 40 or so large-scale works.

String Ensemble,String Quintet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.813467 Composed by Johann Pachelbel. Arranged by Regis Bookshar. Baroque,Concert,Standards,Wedding,World. Score and parts. 27 pages. Regis Bookshar #6264865. Published by Regis Bookshar (A0.813467). Canon in D (Pachelbel) (D) (String Quintet - 2 Violins, 1 Viola, 1 Cello, 1 Bass) - Advanced/Intermediate - Digital Download. This selection, Johann Pachelbel's celebrated Canon in D, is perhaps the most famous canon ever written and has been one of my favorite compositions to arrange. A canon is a polyphonic device in which several voices play the same music, entering in sequence. Pachelbel's Canon in D, was originally written in the key of D Major and was scored for three violins arranged in canon, accompanied by a basso continuo which repeats the same harmonic progression throughout the entire piece. The common musical term for this is ostinato or ground bass. Regis Bookshar has now arranged this music for a String Quintet consisting of 2 Violins, 1 Viola, 1 Violoncello and 1 Double Bass. The two Violins and Viola play the melody in canon while the ostinato accompaniment is played by the Violoncello and the Double Bass. This arrangement is suitable for high school and college students but could also be performed by professional performers. It is perfect for concerts and church services, especially for Weddings, but could be performed for any occasion. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (27 pages). This version is written in the key of D Major, but, if you prefer, another version, written in the key of Bb Major, is also available. Other versions of Pachelbel's Canon in D have also been arranged by Regis Bookshar and are available for a wide variety of instrumental Quintets and Octets, in both the keys of D Major and Bb Major. I think that String players would probably prefer to play the versions in the key of D Major while the Brass and Woodwind musicians might prefer to play the Bb Major versions. I hope you take the time to compare the different versions to find the right version for you. To help you decide which version, or versions, you may want to choose, I have included several musical samples for you to listen to and to hear what these arrangements may sound like and so that you may compare the various arrangements. Also, just to let you know, the Octets written in the key of Bb Major have full-length recordings while the Octets in D Major and all Quintets have only the first 25 measures, or so, available to hear. Please feel free to search for other arrangements by Regis Bookshar which are also available. There are quite a few other arrangements in a variety of styles and I'm certain you will find something else which might interest you as well. Please keep checking because I plan to continue to add new arrangements as often as I can. I'm certain that this exciting arrangement of Pachelbel's Canon in D will be a challenge to some performers but will continue to entertain both performers and audiences alike for years to come.

Canon in D (Pachelbel) (D) (String Octet - 3 Violin, 2 Viola, 2 Cello, 1 Bass) - Advanced/Intermediate - Digital Download. Regis Bookshar has now arranged this music for a String Octet consisting of 3 Violins, 2 Violas, 2 Violoncellos and 1 Double Bass. The three Violins play the melody in canon while the ostinato accompaniment is played by the other five instruments. This arrangement is suitable for high school and college students but could also be performed by professional performers. It is perfect for concerts and church services, especially for Weddings, but could be performed for any occasion. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (35 pages). This version is written in the key of D Major, as is the original version, but, if you prefer, another version, written in the key of Bb Major, is also available. Double Bass,Instrumental Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.552085 Composed by Johann Pachelbel. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. Baroque,Instructional,Standards,Wedding. Individual part. 2 pages. Jmsgu3 #6116385. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.552085). The famous wedding classic arranged for Solo Contrabass.Duration: 2:12Score: 2 pages. The famous Pachelbel Canon arranged for Solo Contrabass.

Published by Stephen Smith (A0.960288). If Johann Pachelbel had been a bit hipper, he'd have written this instead of that stodgy old Canon in D! Constructed in the same way as Pachelbel's big hit, this 2-part canon on a ground is a swinging party piece for either 2 violins and bass (acoustic or electric), or 2 clarinets and bass, or 1 violin,1 clarinet and bass. The download includes parts for all possible combinations and a full score in C.

String Ensemble,String Quintet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.813425 Composed by Johann Pachelbel. Arranged by Regis Bookshar. Baroque,Concert,Standards,Wedding,World. Score and parts. 26 pages. Regis Bookshar #6259483. Published by Regis Bookshar (A0.813425). Canon (Pachelbel) (Bb) (String Quintet - 2 Violins, 1 Viola, 1 Cello, 1 Bass) - Advanced/Intermediate - Digital Download. This selection, Johann Pachelbel's celebrated Canon, is perhaps the most famous canon ever written and has been one of my favorite compositions to arrange. A canon is a polyphonic device in which several voices play the same music, entering in sequence. Pachelbel's Canon, was originally written in the key of D Major and was scored for three violins arranged in canon, accompanied by a basso continuo which repeats the same harmonic progression throughout the entire piece. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (26 pages). This version is written in the key of Bb Major, but, if you prefer, another version, written in the key of D Major, is also available. Other versions of Pachelbel's Canon have also been arranged by Regis Bookshar and are available for a wide variety of instrumental Quintets and Octets, in both the keys of D Major and Bb Major. I'm certain that this exciting arrangement of Pachelbel's Canon will be a challenge to some performers but will continue to entertain both performers and audiences alike for years to come.

Bassoon,Cello,Harpsichord,Organ Accompaniment,Piano Accompaniment,Violin - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.918912 By Jubal's Lyre Music. By Johann Pachelbel. Arranged by Martin Dicke. Baroque,Classical,Contest,Festival,Sacred,Wedding. 37 pages. Jubal's Lyre Music Publishers #6624809. Published by Jubal's Lyre Music Publishers (A0.918912). The beloved Canon in D Major by Johann Pachelbel (1653-1706) is offered here in a flexible arrangement for one two, or three violins. Originally composed for three, this edition allows Pachelbel’s Canon to be played if only one or two instruments are available. Provided are three keyboard parts: Keyboard 1 is to be used if there are three instruments; Keyboard 2 if there are only two instruments (the keyboard playing third part completing the trio); and Keyboard 3 if there is only one instrument (the keyboard playing the second part making a duet). Alternatively, the melody is beautiful and compelling enough that the work can be played as a duet or as a solo accompanied by the Keyboard 1 part. An optional Cello/Bassoon part and a page of notes providing the background and history of the work are also included. Arrangements for other instruments are also available.
