Folk Songs For Classical Guitar - Volume 28 (Songs 730-756)

Acoustic Guitar,Instrumental Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1163719 Composed by Traditional/Anonymous. Arranged by Socrates Arvanitakis. Classical,Early Music,Folk,Traditional. Individual part. 45 pages. Socrates Arvanitakis #764065. Published by Socrates Arvanitakis (A0.1163719). This is the twenty-eighth volume of an extensive collection of folk songs arranged for the classical guitar mostly in two-part counterpoint. The arrangements are of moderate difficulty and the aims of this publication are to familiarise, entertain and educate guitarists (and other musicians) with a melodic repertoire of lasting aesthetic value, under the light of contrapuntal treatment. The thirty five volumes of this collection can certainly be printed on paper if so desired and there are a few pages in each volume, either blank or with photographs of various musicians, which can be inserted at will in any place for the correct ordering of left and right hand pages so that page turns can be avoided. The principle of avoiding page turns has been maintained in all  volumes, but this edition is also designed with mobile electronic devices in mind such as tablets etc, using the environment and facilities of a score reading application, towards a paperless world, at least in music. Therefore the size of the staves is bigger than usual for ease of reading on a small screen but not big enough to exceed the limit of a two-page view.Active internal links for navigating from thematic indexes to particular songs and back to indexes have been added, and also external internet links to sites that give further information for the 945 songs of this first collection for classical guitar.Volume 28 (Songs 730-756)Red River Valley (the)Rejoice and be MerryReynard The FoxRiddlesRiding Down to PortsmouthRio GrandeRise up ShepherdRise up, Shepherd, an’ FollerRoad to the IslesRobbie Tamson’s SmiddieRobin HoodRobin-a-ThrushRock-a-bye BabyRoll! Carson Cooman: The Revelations of Divine Love (Metaphors from Sea and Sky) (2009) oratorio for sopra

Choral Choir (4-Part) - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.535382 Composed by Carson Cooman. Contemporary,Sacred. Octavo. 187 pages. Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #3025403. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.535382). The Revelations of Divine Love (Metaphors from Sea and Sky) (2009), an oratorio for soprano, baritone, chorus, and chamber orchestra (0000.1100.1perc.strings), was commissioned for and is dedicated to the choir ofRoyal Holloway, University of London and Rupert Gough, director of choral music. The texts of the work are adapted primarily from the writings of Julian of Norwich (c. 1342–1416).Julian is best-known for her Sixteen Revelations of Divine Love (c. 1393), believed to be the first Englishlanguagebook written by a woman. Considered one of the most significant English mystics of alltime, Julian lived a reclusive life as an anchoress at the Church of St. Julian in Norwich, England (hertrue name is unknown). Regarded even during her lifetime as a spiritual authority, her optimisticvisions have been very influential in the years that have followed.Texts are also drawn from three additional sources: an excerpt from the Book of Margery Kempe(translated by Christopher M. Brunelle), two poems by English poet Robert Herrick (1591–1674),and a poem by the American writer Elizabeth Kirschner (b. 1955).The primary concept underlying this oratorio is the presence of two distinct discourses. One is asequence taken from Julian’s religious visions. The other is a sonic geography of Nantucket Island(located 30 miles off the coast of Massachusetts in the United States). This interconnected conceptwas inspired by the writings of the great Scottish poet George Mackay Brown (1921–1996). Livinghis entire life on Scotland’s Orkney Islands, Mackay Brown consistently explored the transpositionof religious imagery and events to his native landscape. (For example, the poem Apple-Basket, Apple-Blossom takes the story and structure of the Stations of the Cross, and maps them onto imagery ofdistinctly Orcadian character.)The landscape of Nantucket Island has been the driving force behind a large number of mycompositions for many years. In this oratorio, Julian’s visions are transposed from Norwich andmapped onto the Nantucket landscape. Each movement of the work thus has two parallel purposes:a setting of the visionary words, and a portrayal of a specific place in Nantucket’s geography. Muchof the music was planned in the actual locations. Since the soloists and choir must, by necessity, singthe words, a great deal of the landscape is left to the orchestra. Thus, the orchestra’s role issubstantially greater than simply accompaniment.Because of these two discourses, the oratorio is not intended as comprehensive working out of allaspects of Julian’s visions, nor does it use her own structure and sequence. Rather, it takes herbeautiful words, and the fundamentals of her visions, and attempts to create a new narrative andspiritual experience from them. This is the full score. The vocal score is available for sale. The parts are available on rental from the publisher.

Brass Ensemble Bass Trombone,Horn,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1138940 Composed by Jack Lawrence and Sammy Fain. Arranged by George Bruns, Bob Coil. 20th Century,Children,Classical,Film/TV,Wedding. Score and parts. 18 pages. Polished Brass #739235. Published by Polished Brass (A0.1138940). This arrangement for brass quintet starts with the theme as adapted for the Disney film by George Bruns and then transitions to a setting that reflects the orchestral version by Tchaikovsky. The range is moderate except for the trombone, in which the melody ascends to c2 briefly. The notes are queued in the second trumpet if the range is not secure for the trombonist. Since this piece is often used in weddings, it may need to be shortened, so cadence points have been indicated in the parts for optional endings. The animated film “Sleeping Beauty†was released by Disney Studios in 1959, with the voice of Princess Aurora being sung by Mary Costa. In the Ballet, the waltz is No. 6 in Act 1. The arranger, Bob Coil, is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of music, where he studied bass trombone with Betty Glover. Dr. Coil is the leader of the Bones of Cincinnatus trombone ensemble and the Polished Brass quintet in Cincinnati, OH.

Bach-Gounod: Ave Maria for Baritone Horn & Piano
Baritone Horn TC/Euphonium,Instrumental Solo,Piano - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0…
(+)
Baritone Horn TC/Euphonium,Instrumental Solo,Piano - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.552852 Composed by Bach-Gounod. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Christmas,Contemporary,Easter,Wedding. Score and individual part. 11 pages. Jmsgu3 #3491315. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.552852). Schwencke There are two popular versions of the Bach-Gounod Ave Maria to consider. Firstly, we have the version that exactly follows the harmonic scheme set forth by J. S. Bach in his Prelude #1 in C Major from the Well-Tempered Clavier, Book 1. Secondly, we have the arrangement introduced by the Choirmaster Christian Friedrich Gottlieb Schwencke in 1783 that introduces a controversial added measure designed to intensify the harmony in measure 27. Both versions employ the melody that Charles Gounod provided as an overlay to the Bach harmony. In either case, the convenient 1st & 2nd endings provide options for extended performance. The duration with the repeat runs about 4:50. This arrangement follows the original Bach prelude and so excludes the extra measure that Schwencke introduced in 1783. If you prefer the extra measure, please see Bach-Gounod: Ave Maria, Schwencke version for Baritone Horn & Piano, S0.661783. Ave Maria Ave Maria is a Catholic prayer that consequently asks for the mother of Jesus (Mary) to intercede. Charles Gounod composed a famous version of the Ave Maria. He was a French Romantic composer who overlaid a new melody on an existing Bach chord progression. The progression is from Bach’s Prelude No. 1 from Well-Tempered Clavier I. This version, as well as Schubert’s version, have become essential items at weddings, masses, and funerals. Bach Overview First of all, Johann Sebastian Bach is maybe the greatest composer in music history. Certainly, he was prolific. As a result, everyone has heard of his works. Furthermore, these works number well over a thousand. It seems like people are probably most familiar with instrumental works such as the Brandenburg Concertos, and the Goldberg Variations. But, similarly famous are such noteworthy works as the Well-Tempered Clavier, the Musical Offering, and the Art of Fugue. Seems like his most famous vocal works include the most noteworthy Mass in B Minor. Also, most noteworthy, though, are the St. John Passion, and certainly the Christmas Oratorio.  History Bach came from a long line of musicians and above all, composers. Consequently, he, first of all, pursued a career as a church organist. So as a result, he gained employment in various Protestant churches in Germany. For a while, he worked as a court musician in Weimar and Köthen. Here he probably developed his organ style and likewise his chamber music style. Eventually, he gained an appointment as Cantor of St. Thomas in Leipzig. Here he worked until difficulties with his employer ultimately drove him away. The King of Poland finally appointed him as court composer.  Style It seems like Bach created an engaging new international style. He synthesized elements of the most noteworthy European music ideas into his new style. Even more, this new style was probably his synthesis of European musical rhythm and form. Furthermore, he demonstrated a complete mastery of counterpoint and motivic development. His sense of harmonic organization probably propelled him to the top. Revival        Mendelssohn conducted a Bach revival in the nineteenth century. His effort probably helped to re-familiarize the public with the magnitude of Bach’s works. During this period, scholars published many noteworthy Bach biographies. Moreover, Wolfgang Schmieder published the BWV (Bach Werke Verzeichnis). As a result, this is now the official catalog of his entire artistic output. The BWV number allows us to locate a work in the catalog. Sometimes scholars will simply use an S (Schmieder) as an abbreviation for BWV. Â

Choral Alto Voice,Bass Voice,Double Bass,Piano and Keyboard,Soprano voice,Tenor Voice,Viola,Violin - Level 3 - Interactive Download SKU: A0.481914 By The Beatles. By John Lennon and Paul McCartney. Arranged by Jeremy Nafziger. This edition: Interactive Download. Christmas. Octavo. Duration 286. Jeremy Nafziger #6Re335EyhndYxZ7ALSuj10. Published by Jeremy Nafziger (A0.481914). Key: C major. The Beatles classic with the Advent hymn, In Dulci Jubilo. Both texts come from dreams, and this winds up a meaningful combination. In Dulci was written in the 14th century by German monk and teacher Heinrich Suso (or Seuse), who writes in his third-person autobiography about a dream he had: Now this same angel came up to the Servant [Suso] brightly, and said that God had sent him down to him, to bring him heavenly joys amid his sufferings; adding that he must cast off all his sorrows from his mind and bear them company, and that he must also dance with them in heavenly fashion. Then they drew the Servant by the hand into the dance, and the youth began a joyous song about the infant Jesus, which runs thus: In dulci jubilo... About 650 years later, in 1968, Paul McCartney was staying out late, drinking too much, and thinking that the Beatles were probably going to break up soon. Then one night, somewhere between deep sleep and insomnia, I had the most comforting dream about my mother, who died when I was only 14. She had been a nurse, my mum, and very hardworking, because she wanted the best for us.... At night when she came home, she would cook, so we didn’t have a lot of time with each other. But she was just a very comforting presence in my life. And when she died, one of the difficulties I had, as the years went by, was that I couldn’t recall her face so easily.... So in this dream twelve years later, my mother appeared, and there was her face, completely clear, particularly her eyes, and she said to me very gently, very reassuringly: “Let it be.†It was lovely. I woke up with a great feeling. It was really like she had visited me at this very difficult point in my life and gave me this message: Be gentle, don’t fight things, just try and go with the flow and it will all work out. His mother's name was Mary, or course. He wrote the song in the next few days, and it was released on the album on the same name in 1970, a month after the Beatles split up. As for the actual texts, they're very different. In Dulci is macaronic (alternating between two languages, in this case Latin and a translation from Medieval German) and ecstatic; Let It Be is English and more subdued. In this version, we alternate between the two but keep the Let It Be structure, except for a diversion in the middle where the well-known Bach setting is adopted as kind of an interlude. The two texts and melodies are sung together in the last verse (the fourth In Dulci verse and the third Let It Be verse), where both are talking about music.

The duration with the repeat runs about 4:50.  This version features the Schwencke measure (ms 27). Ave MariaAve Maria is a Catholic prayer that consequently asks for the mother of Jesus (Mary) to intercede. Charles Gounod composed a famous version of the Ave Maria. He was a French Romantic composer who overlaid a new melody on an existing Bach chord progression. This version, as well as Schubert’s version, have become essential items at weddings, masses, and funerals.Bach OverviewJohann Sebastian Bach was prolific. Bach HistoryBach came from a long line of musicians and above all, composers. Bach StyleIt seems like Bach created an engaging new international style. He synthesized elements of the most noteworthy European music ideas into his new style. Even more, this new style was probably his synthesis of European musical rhythm and form. Furthermore, he demonstrated a complete mastery of counterpoint and motivic development. His sense of harmonic organization probably propelled him to the top.Bach Revival        Mendelssohn conducted a Bach revival in the nineteenth century.
