Woodwind Ensemble - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1024864 Composed by Kaitlynn Francois. 20th Century. 95 pages. Kaitlynn Francois #3586291. Published by Kaitlynn Francois (A0.1024864). The 21st Century Clarinet Symphony is comprised of a clarinet octet made up of Bb soprano, Alto, and Bass clarinets. The work contains four movements which each have their own unique charm and quirks. The first movement is based on the sonata-allegro form and features two distinct melodies. The second movement is chorale-like in nature and makes use of the full choir's sound. This movement also places parts into pairs that shift every eight bars. The third movement is a minuet and trio. This movement features the upper four parts playing melodic content while the lower four parts provide the foundation and motor functions the drive the movement forward. The fourth movement is a rondo which features three distinct sections. The A section opens the piece and is heard four times total. The B section is heard twice and features high rhythmic contrast to the A section as well as featuring different lines playing the melody. The C section of this movement provides a radical change from both the A and B sections of the piece as it features both bass clarinets in a duo setting with minimal accompaniment from other voices. Instrumentation: 5 Bb Clarinets, Alto Clarinet, 2 Bass ClarinetsMovements: -Allegro-Chorale-Minuet and Trio-RondoDuration: approx. 10 minuets.

Jubal's Lyre Music Publishers #1986873. Published by Jubal's Lyre Music Publishers (A0.1071344). This is the downloadable audio file of From Depths of Woe, BWV 686 by Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) arranged for Brass Choir by Martin Dicke. A full score and set of parts are available on www.sheetmusicplus.com (S0.114465). This intense setting of the Martin Luther (1483-1546) hymn AUS TIEFER NOT was originally composed for organ by Bach as a part of his Clavier-Ãœbung III (Keyboard Practice III). It is a unique six-part setting in which four voices are played by the hands and two by the feet. Bach places the melody of the hymn in the top pedal part. Scored for two trumpets, French horn, two trombones, Euphonium, and Tuba, this arrangement for Brass Choir places the chorale melody (cantus firmus) in the Trombone 2 part. This part can be doubled by a French horn so that the hymn tune stands out from the thick polyphony. The original setting has been transposed down a major third. For more music and information, visit

Sonata for Piano Quintet
Piano Quintet,String Ensemble Cello,Piano,Viola,Violin - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU…

Piano Quintet,String Ensemble Cello,Piano,Viola,Violin - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1499301 Composed by James Albert Yeager. 21st Century,Chamber,Contemporary. 99 pages. James A. Yeager #1075356. Published by James A. Yeager (A0.1499301). Foreword:Each movement revisits classic paradigms—sonata form (I), ternary song form (II), and sonata rondo (III). The three movements of this piano quintet share a common element contained in the seed of a motivic idea—the interplay between the minor and the major 3rd : a tonal ambiguity or conflict of the minor 2nd. Stylistically, this Sonata pays modest homage to neo-classicism of 20th Century composers such as Poulenc (I), Prokofiev, Shostakovich (III), and perhaps even a touch of Gershwin (II). I hope this piano quintet will offer players and their audience chamber music that is a bit unusual yet worthwhile. The Sonata embraces the lightheartedness, the melancholy , and the whimsy of nostalgia. There is no separate piano part.Performance Notes:I Moderately fast, expresses dialogues of themes that move between piano and strings. The playfulness of the exposition (repeat is not optional) can give way to a more passionate building of the development to the climax at letter H. In the recapitulation the longer bridge remains steadily in tempo (no accelerando) relaxing just before letter N and theme two. The coda after letter O is a somber premonition of movement two.II Slowly, the bowings are ad libitum. The viola is chantlike and smooth. Violins glissando like the portamento of the Chinese stringed instruments, the Guqin or the Ehru type glissando leading to a very pure quiet long tones without any vibrato and the resulting fourth should be a pure tuning. The piano can use una corda ad libitum in softer passages, and the pedal (damper) ad libitum. In the B section (Letter D) pianist should treat the 64th notes like an ornament (upper mordent). Strings play the eighths after Letter G accents with strong bow changes. At the end, the piano lingers until the sound vanishes after the strings die away.III Introduction: Quick and spirited, the transition (Introduction) is measured and strict without alteration leading to letter A. The rondo theme, ‘A’ section, can slightly intensify in each successive repetition, but not slavishly. The small waltz or ‘B’ section, Letter C, the quartet might play to resemble a reed organ or harmonium—sweet, sonorous, and harmonious. The ‘C’ section, Letter G, big swell on short bridge passage, then pizz. strings become very rustic and like a peasant dance. Pianist can use una corda ad libitum in soft passages. Violins again after Letter I play similarly to non-vibrato of 2nd movement. The ‘B’ section at Letter L is now the grand waltz slightly faster and more indulgent with tiny rubatos tastefully allowed.James Albert Yeager (b.1946)James began his career as organist and choral conductor then harpsichordist and finally, professor of sacred music. As an organ major at The Ohio State University, he studied with Dr. Wilbur Held (B.Mus. 1969). Professor Joseph Goodman mentored him in composition at Union Theological Seminary in New York city (M. Sac. Mus, 1971). At the University of Colorado-Boulder, he returned to the organ, nevertheless, keeping composition as a mainstay (D.M.A. 1985). He was appointed Director of Sacred Music at the Pontifical College Josephinum (Columbus, Ohio) and rose to the rank of Professor (1984-2009). He retired as professor emeritus in 2009 and moved to New Mexico. While residing in Mountainair, New Mexico, he was organist/choral director for 12 years at a major Albuquerque church retiring again in 2021. His most recent compositions include Passacaglia & Fugue for Organ and Chamber Orchestra (2022), a Fugue for Piano and Orchestra (2022), a Sonatina for Flute and Piano (2023), and the Sonata for Piano Quintet (2024) as well as several smaller works for voice and piano.

In December 1954, the song reached No. 1 on the Cash Box Top 50, in a tandem ranking of the versions by the Chordettes, the Four Aces, Buddy Morrow, Vaughn Monroe, Les Elgart, the Lancers, and the Song Singers, with the Chordettes and the Four Aces' versions marked as bestsellers. Digital Download SKU: S9.Q25917 Vocal Score based on the Richard Wagner Complete Edition edited by Wolfgang M. Wagner. Composed by Richard Wagner. This edition: vocal/piano score. Erstveröffentlichung - Oper - Theater. Wagner Urtext Piano/Vocal Scores. Downloadable, Piano reduction. Schott Music - Digital #Q25917. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q25917). German • French. An important addition to Schott's newly published orchestral material is the first publication of piano scores for the ten major operas by Richard Wagner in all major versions. For the first time, we offer the stages and interested opera lovers piano scores as urtext editions that were designed according to uniform editorial criteria.•The score is aligned with the performance material of the Complete Edition. •All piano scores have study numbers and continuous measure numbers for rehearsal and study practice. •The editors are renowned musicologists from the circles of those working on the Richard Wagner Complete Edition who contribute detailed information on the respective editions to the critical prefaces.•The prefaces are printed in three languages (German, English, French). •The uniform appealing cover design with reproductions of paintings from the Wagner era emphasizes the serial character of the edition.TANNHÄUSERFor the Richard Wagner Complete Edition, the editors Egon Voss, Peter Jost and Reinhard Strohm as well as Cristina UrchueguÃa have researched and presented Tannhäuser's genesis and history of more than thirty years, which also took about thirty years of scientific work, on 2,959 pages in eight volumes. With the present piano score, the findings gathered therein shall now also to be made accessible for the musical practice. (Wolfgang M. Wagner, quoted from the foreword to the new Tannhäuser piano score)The piano score unites for the first time all four stages of the work (the score as of 1845, the score as of 1860, the Paris version as of 1861/62 with the complete French text of this version, and the Vienna version as of 1875) in a single excerpt for rehearsal and study practice, thus allowing the comparison of the versions, without sacrificing practicability. All variants are printed one after the other in the chronological sequence of the action on the stage, so that each of them can be explored in their context of action by simply turning over the pages. Only two variants rejected before the Paris premiere were printed separately in the appendix. A fascinating insight into Richard Wagner's thinking in terms of stage practice and into his very precise ideas of tonal balance, scenic details and role-conception are made possible by the quotations printed in key passages from his work On the Performance of Tannhäuser, published in 1852.For example, soon after the world premiere, Wagner suggested the deletion of bars in the orchestral part in the 4th scene of Act I, reasoning that […] due to the tremendous woodenness and self-consciousness of our usual supernumeraries, the impression of overwhelming liveliness, which was intended by me and which was to imply a heightening of the mood led up to by the liveliest manifestations of life, was not achieved. (piano reduction, p. 221)In the big ensemble scene at the end of Act II, Wagner puts in a comment at a certain passage, referring to the conductor and his great responsibility for tonal balance:The exclamations 'Ach, erbarm' dich mein!' require such a piercing emphasis that he [the performer of Tannhauser] as a mere, well-trained singer is not enough; it is but the highest dramatic art that has to provide him the energy of pain and desperation for an expression that must seem to break forth from the most gruesome depths of an awfully woeful heart, like a cry for salvation. The conductor has to ensure that the implied success is made possible for the principal singer by the most discrete accompaniment of the other singers as well as of the orchestra. (piano reduction, p. 367)3 (3. auch Picc.) · 2 · 2 · Bassklar. [nicht in Pariser F.] · 2 - 2 Ventilhr. · 2 Waldhr. · 3 Ventiltrp. · 3 · 1 [Pariser F.: Ophicléïde] - P. S. (Trgl. · Beck. · Tamb. · gr. (+)
Brass Ensemble Euphonium - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.927033 Composed by Franz Schubert. Arranged by Danny Chapa. Romantic Period. Score and parts. 35 pages. Kayla Roth #3444757. Published by Kayla Roth (A0.927033). One of Franz Schubert's most famous works (and indeed, one of the most well-known lieder), Erlkönig, based on poetry by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, tells the story of a father, his sick child, and a malevolent elf-spirit called Erlkönig (elf king or alder king). The child, delirious with fever, insists to his father that the Erlkönig means to harm him; as his father reassures the child that he is only imagining things, the Erlkönig torments him, sweet words turning into threats. The father races through the forest on his galloping horse with his son in his arms, arriving back home only to find that the child has succumbed to his fever. In Schubert's original composition, the galloping of the horse is depicted in incessant triplets played by the pianist, while the vocalist must portray four different characters - the narrator, the father, the son, and the Erlkönig. Danny Chapa's arrangement for four euphoniums preserves these aspects, dividing the vocal roles amongst the four performers: part one is the narrator, part two is the son, part three is the father, and part four is the Erlkönig. The fifth character of the horse is disbursed throughout all parts.Dr. Chapa holds degrees from Louisiana State University and from the University of North Texas and has held faculty positions at Stephen F. Austin State University and at Brookhaven College. He is an active performer and lecturer at concerts and conferences around the United States. For more great euphonium literature, be sure to check out other selections from Atticus Sounds Publications here on Sheet Music Plus!

Be sure to check out my first euphonium quartet Beacons (2014).No Longer at Ease is a stand-alone euphonium quartet inspired by Chinua Achebe’s 1960 novel of the same name. In Achebe’s novel a young man is sent to University by his village’s elders in the hopes he will return able to guide and protect his people through uncertain and unwanted colonialist developments. However, the man abandons their plans to pursue his own interests and faces the fallout of his actions upon his return home and in the volatile years to come. Reading such an affective work in the final semester of my Masters preparing to return home was timely and I have found the similarities between my life and Achebe’s art blurred. I began writing this work upon returning home to Niceville, Florida and realizing that both myself and the town I call home have changed drastically.     The piece begins with jarring sixteenth-notes derived from a rising arpeggiated-tetrachord. Ceaseless double tonguing, the lead in the fourth euphonium, and unsettling metric shifts combine for unique and frenetic effects. A yearning melody enters amidst this chaos and is a musical spelling of “homeâ€. The return and developments of the frenetic material culminates in a solo statement of this theme. The middle section represents the home of years past and features a uniquely Niceville quote with fragments of the Niceville High School fight song. These fragments make up each independent line and the music culminates in a triumphant victory. However, this victory is cut brief by the cutting sixteenth-note driven material from earlier. The finale is an exciting mockery of the “home†theme with interjections and exploitations of all previous themes. - Matthew NunesNiceville, June 2018.

Published by Gary Friedman (A0.889873). There are 3 movements. Sarabande, March, and Fugue, ranging from 3 to 5 minutes in duration. The Sarabande is serious and melodic, the March is cute, and the Fugue is an orchestrated version of my Fugue for Four Winds. You can get some idea of the sound of Sarabande and March by listening to the sound clips of the versions of them in my Seven Easy Melodies for Oboe with Piano Accompaniment, either in SheetMusicPlus or on my website, www.garyfriedmanmusic.net. The original Fugue for Four Winds may also be heard in these two places. Suitable for chamber orchestra. The Sarabande instruments are 2 each of flute, oboe, clarinet in A, bassoon, and horn, plus strings. In the March a trumpet (which has a nice short solo) and snare drum and triangle are added. In the Fugue, oboe 2 becomes English horn and a second trumpet is added. There are also optional parts in the Fugue for trombone, tuba, which can be covered by the bassoons, and for bells. Double Bass - Digital Download SKU: A0.1314900 Composed by Andrew Cody Williams and Jeff Bradetich. Classical,Instructional. Educational Exercises. 100 pages. Andrew Cody Williams #903659. Published by Andrew Cody Williams (A0.1314900). THIS IS NOT THE STANDARD PACKET. Within the Expanded Ensemble Packet, parts 3 and 4 expand on the accompaniment. While they are not needed for performance, they do fill spaces and provide more to the ensemble musically to create a trio or quartet. A score is also included“Popular Orchestral Excerpt Etudes For Double Bass†is a collection of 9 etudes written by Andrew Cody Williams and Jeff Bradetich from the pedagogical analysis of some of the most common orchestral excerpts in double bass repertoire including Beethoven Symphony 5 Scherzo and Trio, Brahms Symphony 2, Mahler Symphony 2, Mozart Symphony 40, Bach Orchestral Suite 2 Badinerie, Strauss Ein Heldenleben, Schubert Symphony 9 “Greatâ€, and Mendelssohn Symphony 4. Before you buy, try the FREE DEMO PACKET by contacting ExcerptEtudesBass@gmail.comThe focus of these excerpt etudes is as follows:Sequential Instruction- Taking a challenge one step at a time creates a manageable challenge without becoming overwhelmed. When a student meets successful attempt after successful attempt while gradually increasing difficulty, they are motivated to learn and are less likely to reinforce unwanted outcomes.Context- Practicing anything without understanding where it fits in the bigger picture is asking for failure. Accompanying parts to the etudes have been written to assist the learner through tempo consistency, performing other instrumental parts, and expanding beyond the provided excerpt.Ensemble- Performing with others improves intonation and listening, constructive teamwork, and can be a lot of fun. Four bass parts have been written for the etude in a layered accompaniment to keep the size of the ensemble flexible. Within the Standard Packet, part 1 is the etude itself, taking sections of the excerpts and practicing them in different ways to improve the original excerpt. Part 2 provides the most important accompanying music, allowing the etude to be practiced and performed with just two players. This is especially useful in private lessons, as the teacher can accompany the student as they wish. Within the Expanded Ensemble Packet, parts 3 and 4 expand on the accompaniment. While they are not needed for performance, they do fill spaces and provide more to the ensemble musically to create a trio or quartet. Other resources are provided within the excerpt etudes as well. A score is included in the Expanded Ensemble Packet with all four parts to allow easy comparison and study of each etude. The original excerpts are included in the Standard Packet as well, allowing the student to actively see where each rehearsal letter practice section derives from. An analysis of each rehearsal letter is offered defining the problem in question, as well as a practice solution and occasional extra tips. Finally, a difficulty rating sheet is provided to approximate the difficulty of each part.

Written to evoke the open spaces, serenity and yet power of the Moors, Marsden Moor is based on a motif built from two major seconds a fourth apart. The motif is develped and imitated as the pieces progresses giving a rather solitary feeling to the music. A second themes carries the journey until a sequential progression lifts the music to a dignified but powerful climax. When the music appears to resolve to a more relaxed tonality the second theme carries it off modally to reiterate the power which gradually dies away to leave the landscape intact and silent again. Written originally for String Orchestra, the work is available for Clarinet Choir, Brass Ensemble, and Brass Band the wind versions are particularly effective in describing this landscape.

Contest,Festival,Historic,Multicultural,World. Brass Band. 189 pages. Danetre Music #1052989. Published by Danetre Music (A0.1475437). A Suite for British Style Brass Band. Each movement is based on a famous French Impressionist painting as follows:1. Boulevard Montmarte (Pissarro – 1897) The Boulevard Montmartre is one of the four grand boulevards of Paris. This painting gave me the idea of writing a piece to portray a journey in a pony and trap through this busy street scene, starting out serenely in the suburbs, travelling through all the hustle and bustle, before trailing off into the distance. An all pervasive Poulenc mouvement perpetual accompaniment style is present throughout this movement. 2. Lac d'Annecy (Cézanne - 1896) Although marked Waltz triste (sad waltz), the mood of the music is rather reflective in nature. This movement is the longest of the five and I would not recommend it being played too slow. Stylistically, it is a characteristic accordion piece, so touches of rubato here and there wouldn’t be out of keeping. 3. La Cathédrale de Rouen (Monet - 1894) This is the most difficult movement to play in respect of intonation, with lots of unisons, octaves and parallel intervals. The opening should be a true piano in order to allow the piece grow. The plainsong statements should be played smoothly and with plenty of air. 4. Les Parapluies (Renoir - 1884) A jaunty, playful theme leading in to a little fugue. A little low in places for the euphoniums and baritones. The music should skip along comfortably without rushing to allow the finer detail to come through. 5. Au Moulin Rouge (Toulouse-Lautrec - 1895) A lively tempo, always chasing forward without slackening. As in the previous movement, good dynamic contrast, swells and tight precise articulation. Lots of work for everyone, especially the baritones and euphoniums. Take care that the mf dynamic of the 'bass solo' is not overdone. If needs must, the siren whistle could be substituted with a referee's whistle, but I would like my duck call! The champagne cork 'pops' are really more visual than audible, however, it would be advisable for more of the band to join in, as required. A super work to add to your repertoire as a concert or contest item. This title has already been played by a number of bands in various competitions, and was chosen as the 4th Section Test Piece for the Butlins Mineworkers Brass Band Championships 2015 in Skegness, UK.

Music for melody solo or simple ensemble, this fall-inspired song is excellent for new note readers in either bass or treble clef; both versions are included. Notes are drawn from E, F#, G, A, & B using easily recognizable patterns. Melody rhythms include quarter, half, and whole notes. Maracas rhythms copy the melody until their four beat solo spots. These are notated with eighth note pairs but are also handy places for rhythmic improvisation.

Piano,Soprano Flute - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1499262 Composed by James Albert Yeager. 21st Century,Chamber,Contemporary. Score and part. 43 pages. James A. Yeager #1075315. Published by James A. Yeager (A0.1499262). Foreword:Each movement revisits classic paradigms— (I & II) ternary song form,(III) theme & variations. The third movement treats the two themes as children at play with games such as tag and hide-and-seek as variations. Both themes become partner songs leading to fugue, which is, after all, the ultimate musical game.Performance Notes:I Moderato, slurs in the flute suggest phrasing but are optional in terms of breathing. The B section at letter C has a canon between flute and piano (left-hand) which suggests imitation in articulations and dynamics. The climax just before letter D can be stretched slightly more than poco rit. implies. II Slowly gently, must not be played slower than indicated. The middle section at letter B begins with a subito forte. At 3 measures before letter C the fermatas allow a certain freedom. When the flute releases the piano can continue the left-hand chord. The piano should use una corda in the bridge at letter C. Elsewhere, the piano may also employ una corda in quiet places ad libitum. At final note the flute can fade to nothing if breath runs out and just remain in pose as the final note of the piano is allowed to vanish.III Majestic with vigour, two given themes from ca. 1934 are Old Abram Brown by Benjamin Britten and Kookabura Sits on the Old Gum Tree by Marion Sinclair and both are rounds for children. The flute boldly declares theme one at the outset. The piano arpeggiations begin sonorously and quiet before letter A. In Variation 1 the piano must begin softer than the low register flute. The piano left-hand upper notes [A, then G, then D-A fifth) may require use of the sostenuto pedal. Variation 2 is a caccia or chase. Variation 3 is a barcarolle where theme 1 is hiding in the flute part. Variation 4 introduces the second theme (flute) in partnership with theme 1 (piano). Four measures before letter I the piano makes an ogre of theme 2 and should be humorously ponderous. The fugue subject might be the teacher who brings everyone into the final partner song of themes. The piece finishes as it began except for a wistful ending.James Albert Yeager (b.1946)James began his career as organist and choral conductor then harpsichordist and finally, professor of sacred music. 1985). While in Colorado he composed two film scores for student filmmakers as well as choral and organ compositions. He led choirs of all ages from children through the elderly. His most recent compositions include Passacaglia & Fugue for Organ and Chamber Orchestra (2022), a Fugue for Piano and Orchestra (2022), a Sonatina for Flute and Piano(2023), and the Sonata for Piano Quintet (2024) as well as several smaller works for voice and piano.

Saxophone in Eb and piano - intermediate - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q15272 From the Idyll At Twilight. Composed by Zdenek Fibich. Arranged by Wolfgang Birtel. This edition: Sheet music. Edition Schott - Single Edition. Downloadable. Op. 39. Schott Music - Digital #Q15272. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q15272). The reputation of the Bohemian composer Zdenek Fibich (1850-1900) has always been somewhat overshadowed by that of Bedrich Smetana and AntonÃn Dvorák. This is a pity, for Fibich, though he died young, made an equally important contribution to the emerging Czech national styl with his wide range of compositions. After starting piano lessons with his mother as his first teacher, the boy went on to music school in Prague and then to the Leipzig Conservatoire, where he learned his craft as a composer. He spent a few months teaching piano in Paris and then continued his studies with Vinzenz Lachner in Mannheim. Prague was eventually to become the centre for Fibich's musical activities: as his dream of a post at the Conservatoire remained unfulfilled, his main employment was giving private music lessons and as a composer Zdenek Fibich wrote works for many musical genres: vocal and chamber music, piano pieces and orchestral works, operas, stage music and melodramas, literary recitals with orchestral accompaniment to which he gave a new lease of life. There are biographical traces to be found in the 376 piano pieces of the collection 'Moods, Impressions and Reminiscences' Op. 41, written in 1892-98: this tells of his love for his pupil Anezka Schulzová in the form of a 'piano diary'. Its four volumes were frequently a source of material for other works, such as the symphonic poem 'In the Evening' Op. 39 (also known as 'A Summer's Evening' and 'At Twilight'), written in 1893. For his second subject in this 'Idyll' Fibich used the minature no. 139, entitled 'Lento', from his collection of piano pieces. The violinst Jan KubelÃk played the melody from 1908 onwards with the title 'Poème', and the work is still known today under this title: its easy charm has made it a favourite tune in the classical repertoire. This arrangement is based on the orchestral version from which other material was adapted for the Prelude.
