Antonio Vivaldi wrote at least three settings of the hymn Gloria in Excelsis Deo, whose words date probably from the 4th Century and which is an integral part of the Ordinary of the Mass. Gloria in Excelsis Deo is a familiar and popular piece among sacred works by Vivaldi. It was probably written in 1715. The Level is Advance Intermediate and the duration is approximately 2.38 minutes. It could be played in any type of recital/concert.

Raaf Hekkema's (*1968) arrangement of the famous work by Paganini was initiated by a commission of the Dutch Noord Nederlands Orkest which asked him to play Paganini's Violin Concerto No. 2 at a tour. Like its virtuoso counterpart, Capriccio No. 24, the famous last movement La Campanella which had inspired many other composers like Schumann and Liszt reflects, in the version for saxophone, the great wealth of 21st-century saxophone playing - a breathtaking piece full of saxophone acrobatics!
Already available are the famous 24 Capricci Op. 1 by Paganini for solo saxophone (ED 20559). For the CD release of this work, the virtuoso Dutch saxophonist was awarded the Echo Klassik Award in the category of 'Best Instrumentalist of the Year' in 2007.

This arrangement transcribes the piano score as a Solo for Alto Saxophone with Piano accompaniment. There is a separate solo part included with the score. The second of Bach’s four orchestral suites is actually the one he composed last, in Leipzig around 1739, and is probably the last orchestral music of any kind that he wrote. It is basically a solo flute concerto in the form of a dance suite, and an extraordinarily difficult flute concerto at that. A badinerie is a sort of character piece in 18th-century suites, with no particular dance rhythm or meter. This one has a full measure of the light and lively bantering the title implies, which has made it also popular with jazz arrangers. The Duration is approx. 1.32 minutes and the level is Advanced Intermediate.

Joplin lived for a while in Sedalia, Missouri and the Maple Leaf Club in that town is thought to have provided the name for this composition. It provided Joplin with a steady income for the rest of his life, and while he requested that it be played at his funeral, his wife refused as she felt it inappropriate. It was the first track on Joshua Rifkin’s famous 1970 revival recording of Joplin’s music and, never waning in popularity, it has featured in hundreds of films.This version for Alto Saxophone and Piano includes all four sections of the original composition. The tempo in recorded versions varies widely between 72 and 126, so the marking of 92 is a suggestion only.Musicians at an advanced intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal performances.
