String Quartet String Quartet - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1335178 Composed by Joseph Lanner (1801-1843). Arranged by Stephen Levintow. 19th Century,Chamber,Opera,Romantic Period. 55 pages. Cypress Publishing #921020. Published by Cypress Publishing (A0.1335178). Lanner, along with his colleague (and later rival) Johann Strauss the Elder, led the first great flowering of dance music specialist composers in Vienna. This wonderful curiosity is Lanner's homage to Mozart, setting some of his most famous opera melodies in waltz time, introduced by a medley of other Mozart opera hits. The finale, a waltz rendition of the overture to Die Zauberflöte, is not to be missed! The 3rd waltz includes a section where Lanner, a brilliant violinist, wrote out what sounds like the sort of improvisation he would have made in performance. It is marked with an optional cut in the arrangement.CYPRESS PUBLISHING is pleased to be the imprint for arrangements for string ensemble by Stephen Levintow. He is a free lance professional violist and violinist specializing in chamber music, who began making string quartet and trio arrangements for wedding, party and corporate events, to expand the repertory or to improve on existing versions. Selections include unusual pieces by both familiar and lesser-known composers, plus standard classical and popular favorites. The goal is to produce high-quality, musically satisfying arrangements faithful to the composer’s original material, yet sight-readable in most cases by working professionals or intermediate to advanced students. The full range of normal string technique is employed, while avoiding unnecessary technical complexity. Melodic material is distributed throughout the four voices where appropriate, to maintain listener and performer interest. All parts and scores are set in Sibelius© software format, with careful attention to legibility and page turns.

Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1112657 Composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Arranged by Ray Thompson. Christian,Classical,Religious,Sacred. 10 pages. RayThompsonMusic #714667. Published by RayThompsonMusic (A0.1112657). Arranged standard brass quintet Section III of the requiem is titled “Sequenz†(sequentia or sequence). It is made up of the following pieces I have arrangements of all of them, for varying types of ensemble * Dies irae * Tuba mirum * Rex tremendae * Recordare * Confutatis * Lacrymosa I have also arranged Mozarts Motet “Ave Verum Corpus†K618 for varying types of instrumentation. Mvt.3 Rex tremundae summary A descending melody composed of dotted notes is played by to announce the Rex tremendae majestatis (King of tremendous majesty, i.e., God), who is called by powerful cries on the syllable Rex during the pauses. For a surprising effect, the Rex syllables fall on the second beats of the measures, even though this is the weak beat. The melodies adoptthe dotted rhythm, forming what Wolff calls baroque music's form of topos of the homage to the sovereign,or, more simply put, that this musical style is a standard form of salute to royalty, or, in this case, divinity. This movement consists of only 22 measures, but this short stretch is rich in variation: homophonic writing and contrapuntal passages alternate many times and finish on a quasi-unaccompanied choral cadence, landing on an open D chord (as seen previously in the Kyrie). Excellent fun for eery player.

Solo Guitar - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.899126 Composed by Rod Whittle. Classical. Individual part. 4 pages. Maggie Creek Music #37277. Published by Maggie Creek Music (A0.899126). 4 pages; for solo classical guitar; based on a theme from the Mass in C Minor; published by Maggie Creek MusicWolfgang Amadeus Mozart 1756 -1791 Mozart, whom his sister recounted as picking out thirds on the family clavier at the age of three for the pleasure of it, has been described as achieving miracles of sound across every emotion. Indeed one runs out of superlatives trying to do justice to the quality and originality of his compositions and the abundance of output. Anyone learning about his relatively short life must also pay tribute to his resolve and courage. I've noticed during my time in bands that the music I like sparks creativity, and the lovely theme from the Kyrie of the Mass in C minor spawned a lot of ideas once I'd decided to write something for guitar using it. Mozart's harmonies seem both exclusive and perfect, and I can't imagine my musical life without them. I got to know the Mass when I looked after Nigel's place while he was away, as it was in his record collection. My good friend died (of bone cancer) not long after that, and the Fantasy is a homage to him.

This should be a real treat for flutists and their audiences. It is a Neo-Baroque/Post-Modern American Fantasia that synthesizes the best loved idiomatic figures of the Baroque with elements of our musical vernacular pop. The piano part is quite difficult, and it requires a high level of finger dexterity and rhythmic control, on the level of a Mozart Concerto. The piano is an equal partner in this Fantasia quasi una Sonata.

Concert Band - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.889876 Composed by Gary Friedman. Contemporary. Score and parts. 42 pages. Gary Friedman #11447. Published by Gary Friedman (A0.889876). With frequent changes between major and minor, the stirring march themes reappear as romantic melodies. Of special interest are the trumpet and piano solos, and a section for oboe, clarinet, horn, bassoon and piano, in homage to Mozart and Beethoven, who wrote beautiful quintets for this combination of instruments. Not all parts are necessary. They were included so as not to leave out members of a band I was playing in. For example, the alto clarinet part duplicates the third B flat clarinet part. There are tenor sax cues in the alto sax part for the solo in measures 46 and 47 in case a tenor sax is not available. A PIANO IS REQUIRED. I don't have a good band sound clip but you can listen to the piece arranged for wind quintet and piano. It is the 1st movement of my Sextet for Winds and Piano. This audio is attached to that piece here or on my music website, www.garyfriedmanmusic.net. Duration 5 minutes. Year 2000.

Small Ensemble Bassoon,Cello,Clarinet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.811778 Composed by Johann Nepomuk Hummel (1738 - 1837). Arranged by arranged by Pat Spence. Classical,Concert,Graduation,Wedding. Score and parts. 58 pages. Piper Publications #6210939. Published by Piper Publications (A0.811778). This trio composed in 1801 for two violas and cello has been arranged for two clarinets in Bb & bassoon or cello. It has been undeservedly ignored because the original trio combination never really 'caught on'. The four movements, Allegro moderato, Andantino grazioso, Menuetto & Trio and Rondo a la Burlesca provide advanced intermediate players and above with a gem of a concert piece. The final movement is a homage to Mozart (cf. Rondo a la Turka) and concludes with a lovely quote from the Magic Flute.

Piano Concerto in C major, K. 503
Cello,Flute,Piano,Violin - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1343361 Composed by W…
(+)
Cello,Flute,Piano,Violin - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1343361 Composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Arranged by Kiyoshi Tamagawa. Chamber,Classical. 101 pages. Mastery for Strings Press #928889. Published by Mastery for Strings Press (A0.1343361). The piano concertos of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart remain among the masterpieces in the medium. When the composer moved from his native Salzburg to Vienna in 1782, three piano concertos (K. 413, 414 and 415) were among his first compositions produced in the latter city. They were scored for full orchestra, but advertised when published as being performable by a keyboard soloist with string quartet or string orchestra alone. The flexibility of the scoring shows that, perhaps out of a desire for increased sales and more hearings of these works, Mozart was not averse to having them played by more intimate groups, transforming them into chamber music. A rather different aesthetic viewpoint motivated the composer Johann Nepomuk Hummel’s arrangements of seven of Mozart’s piano concertos, composed between about 1825 and 1836, though the last of them appeared in print only several years after Hummel’s death in 1837. The accompanying ensemble in these arrangements consists of flute, violin, and cello.  Hummel, who had studied with Mozart as a boy, materially altered and elaborated the solo part in these versions, taking advantage of the increased range of nineteenth-century pianos. He imposed his own tastes in ornamentation and decoration, which strongly influenced the piano writing of Chopin, on melodic passages. This is especially true in the slow movements, resulting in a stylistic hybrid that bridges the Classical and Romantic eras. The present transcription pays homage to Hummel’s elaborate and beautiful reworkings, well worth performing today, by using the same combination of instruments. The editorial viewpoint, however, is that of maximum fidelity to Mozart’s original text. The hope of the transcriber is twofold: 1) that keyboard performers, instrumentalists and audiences might enjoy this work in the absence of a full orchestra, and 2) that pianists might use this version to learn Mozart’s original solo part with a minimum of alteration for such occasions when they are called upon to perform it in its original setting.

Published by Mastery for Strings Press (A0.1303067). The piano concertos of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart remain among the masterpieces in the medium. His early Vienna concertos were scored for full orchestra, but conceived as being performable by a keyboard soloist with string quartet or string orchestra alone. The flexibility of the scoring shows that Mozart was not averse to having them played by more intimate groups, transforming them into chamber music. A rather different aesthetic viewpoint motivated the composer Johann Nepomuk Hummel’s arrangements of seven of Mozart’s piano concertos, composed between about 1825 and 1836. The accompanying ensemble in these arrangements consists not of strings alone but flute, violin, and cello. The participation of the instruments is in fact optional, as the orchestral tuttis are incorporated into the piano part so that a single piano soloist can perform the entire work. Hummel also considerably altered the solo keyboard parts to increase their range and brilliance. The present transcription pays homage to Hummel’s elaborate and beautiful reworkings, well worth performing today, by using the same combination of instruments. The editorial viewpoint, however, is that of maximum fidelity to Mozart’s original text. The hope of the transcriber is twofold: 1) that keyboard performers, instrumentalists and audiences might enjoy this beautiful work in the absence of a full orchestra, and 2) that pianists might use this version to get Mozart’s original solo part in their fingers with a minimum of alteration, for such occasions when they are called upon to perform it.

Instrumental Duet,Piano Euphonium,Instrumental Duet,Piano,Trombone - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.927030 Composed by Franz Schubert, Kayla Roth. 20th Century,Baroque,Classical,Contemporary,Romantic Period. Score and parts. 27 pages. Kayla Roth #3373343. Published by Kayla Roth (A0.927030). From the composer's program notes included with this purchase:I have taken Schubert’s famous setting and arranged it in a set of musical homages to other composers. I have also included Schubert’s original theme, transposed down to F, and I would recommend playing it twice in the beginning to give your audience a good idea of it.For most of the pieces, I tried to capture the composer’s overall style; however, there are a few particular pieces that are either quoted or used as the stylistic basis, as follows: Mozart - I based this variation, stylistically, on Piano Concerto No. 21 in C major (K.467), specifically movement two (Andante), as well as some of his earliest childhood piano compositions. Symphony 40 in G minor (K.550) is quoted rhythmically. Strauss, Jr. - For inspiration, I used Du und Du, Op. 367, a waltz that is derived from various parts of his beloved operetta, Die Fledermaus. I quoted rhythms from this, as well as from Frühlingsstimmen, Op. 410. Joplin - I didn’t base this on any particular piece of Joplin’s; I tried to include elements that are common in his rags (a short introduction, arpeggiated diminished seventh chords, chromaticism, syncopation over a boom-chuck). Perhaps the best advice comes from Joplin himself: Don’t play this piece fast. It is never right to play ragtime fast. Porter - I had to include an offering from the Great American Songbook! Frank Sinatra recorded several of Porter’s well-known tunes in the 1940s, such as Easy To Love, Night and Day, and I Love You; his renditions of these songs are heavy on the schmaltz and sentimentality, which is exactly what I was trying to achieve in this variation.Bach - The minor variation! I had Fugue in G minor, BWV 578 (Little Fugue) in mind when writing this.der Jodelkönig - As Heidenröslein is a strophic, folk-songesque German piece, I thought it fitting to end the variations with an imitation of traditional Alpine yodeling. It is named in honor of Franzl Lang, the Yodelking.

Clarinet Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.913621 Composed by James Marshall. Classical. Individual part. 64 pages. James Marshall Music #6096487. Published by James Marshall Music (A0.913621). Six Bagatelles for Clarinet and Piano were composed in March, 2020 for Beethoven 250. They are drawn from Beethoven piano music. The sources are piano sonatas, bagatelles, and a landler. With my ever faithful friend and collaborator, London Clarinetist Alison Eales in mind, I sought to add to the Clarinet repertoire. Having written five pieces over the past two years in English manner for Clarinet (English Sonatina, English Autumn, London Concerto, Enchanted London, Postcards from England), a tip of the hat to the Austrian Titan seemed appropriate. Beethoven, unlike Mozart before him and Brahms after him, wrote no solo music for Clarinet. The Trio and scoring in Symphonies are his unique contributions to the repertoire. Beethoven was a contemporary of Weber who wrote extensively for solo Clarinet. With most of the passages being arrangements, my original homage passages frame the settings and are juxtaposed with them. The tone of the music is one of homage and recollection with no intent to imitate or parody the great master. Bagatelles are by nature lighter fare of shorter duration. Hence no long, authentic passages with inherent mood swings and elaborations. By adapting the music to the bagatelle form, it reflects the less ponderous side of the composer. Although Beethoven’s music is capable of great depth and despair, the more transcendent, pastoral, and exuberant moods prevail in these pieces. The final two movements, Recitative and Rondo, draw on the Waldstein Sonata and Emperor Piano Concerto, and Sonata Op 2 No3 as well. The Rondo theme is in Eb, my own, is reminiscent of the Emperor Concerto in it intense yet lilting motif. Perhaps the listener will hear hints of Weber, a clarinet favorite of mine, as well in this final movement. Two movements are scored for Clarinet in A, and four movements for Clarinet in Bb.

Jacques Leguerney: String Quartet in D for two violins, viola and cello

String Quartet Cello,String Quartet,Viola,Violin - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.534402 Composed by Jacques Leguerney. 20th Century,Standards. Score and parts. 125 pages. Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #3457403. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.534402). Jacques Leguerney (1906-1997) composed two string quartets. The Premier Quatuor à cordes was composed in 1925 during Leguerneyâ??s private piano and composition study with French pianist Thérèse Cahen. His second quartet, subject of this publication by Musik Fabrik, was written between November 1947 and September 1948. The four movements are: I. Allegro moderato; II. Intermezzo; III. Scherzando; IV. Presto-Andantino. This work was, in part, Leguerneyâ??s response to the Premier Quatuor à cordes (inédit) by his colleague, Henri Sauguet. Leguerney stated in a personal interview with Patrick Choukroun (18 May 1989) that: â??I wrote it a bit in opposition to Sauguetâ??s Premier Quatuor. It seemed to me that his quartet was without interest: just scratchings! I wanted to express my way of looking at it from the classical viewpoint of the past: it is almost in the spirit of Mozart, except for the harmonic language, of course. In fact, I wanted to fight against everything that has been done to a quartet since Beethovenâ??s last ones.â? The premiere of the Quatuor à cordes en ré mineur was by the Quatuor Pro Arte at the Abbaye de Royaumont. Before this performance, Poulenc sent Leguerney the following note: â??Fortunate man for whom twelve strings are enough to charm people, I wish you good luck and respectfully embrace you.â? (Handwritten letter, Reims, 4 September 1959). Leguerney was appointed artistic director of the Lumen recording company in 1951, and remained in this position until 1959. He produced four recordings of his music, including the Quatuor Pro Arteâ??s recording of the Quatuor à cordes en ré mineur (1947-1948) (Lumen, LD 2.440, 1958). This disc won the Grand Prix du Disque de lâ??Académie Charles Cros on 13 March 1959. The Pro Arteâ??s members were Suzanne Plazonich, Violin I; Chantal Beylier, Violin II; Nicole Gendreau, Viola; and Micheline Burtin, Cello. Francis Poulenc wrote to Leguerney concerning this recording: â??It is very good Leguerney. Of course, frivolous as I am and shall always remain, it is the 2nd movement that I prefer. Between us, I am like you: I prefer the scherzos after the andantes; that way one is not forced to write a Finale allegro. Yours pleases me very much, in fact, so to my ears it is III-IV-I-II, in the order of pleasure.â? (Manuscript letter, Bagnols, 14 October 1959) The radio station France I broadcast the Quatuor with on 11 July 1959 on the program Schola of the series Concert de musique contemporaine, again with the Quatuor Pro Arte. An archive recording of this broadcast exists on magnetic tape. Critic Claude Rostand wrote: â??Jacques Leguerney does not seem to have looked for special innovations either in form or language. His basic thought seems especially to have written a quartet, that is to say on one hand to have used the four voices with elegance and originality, clarity and homogeneity (four-part writing seems to always have come naturally to him, even at the piano), and on the other hand to exploit all of the supple cushioning that can result from the caress of a bow on a string.â? Critic Emile Vuillermoz wrote: â??His only ambition is to expresses clear and affectionate melodic ideas, in a highly distinguished, elegant and refined language, meaning an homage, in the beginning of our century, to the trios of the greatest stylists of our time. In fact, it is from the vocabulary of Fauré, Debussy and Ravel that he takes his grammar and syntax and that with which he carries out with his this harmonic writing that is both supple and sparse, that is so congenial to the association of four string instruments. This quartet, whose first movement is of a rare perfection, is a delicate enchantment.â? The Musik Fabrik edition of the Quatuor à cordes en ré mineur is taken from a photocopy of the composerâ??s manuscript of the full score. We also had access to the quartet parts found in Leg.
