Large Ensemble - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.569831 Composed by Austin Ralphson. Instructional. Score and parts. 57 pages. Austin Ralphson #4626517. Published by Austin Ralphson (A0.569831). Melody: Passing Notes - Perform, Compose, Understand Series. This pack comprises a piece called Missing Links, worksheets and questions which relate to the piece. It is all about understanding melodic movement and direction.Welcome to the PCU Series for classroom-based groups. This series focuses on learning by doing; there are many accomplished performers within our school classrooms throughout the world, but my years of experience has taught me that many of these students learn to play by rote – literally be learning one note followed by another – without gaining full understanding of how the pieces work musically and theoretically. Indeed, some of them can perform to a high standard using this method, but then really struggle with composition and general musical understanding later in their educational careers.I equate this to learning to speak sentences in a foreign language without fully understanding what those sentences actually mean.So who is this book for?It is for music teachers to use with their students who are learning to create exam-level compositions within a school environment. It is ideal for courses such as the American High School Diploma, GCSE, IGCSE, SCS, HKCEE, IB(MYP), SPM, GCEO, CCEF, HKCEE, VSSD, GES or ICSE.It is designed to cater for almost any instrument due to the parts being provided in many different keys and clefs (including tab and bass tab). Drum parts are intentionally not provided as drummers still need to have a good understanding of non-percussive elements such as melody and harmony; I would suggest that they play a keyboard part for the purposes of learning about composition. You can also download backing tracks of all pieces in this series by searching:Classroom Performance educational pack: MELODY backing tracksThese contain parts 2-5, allowing part 1 to be played live over the top. How to use this resourceThis pack comprises three stages, the third of which should be gained from success with the first two:1. PerformingAn original performance piece is provided for mixed classroom ensemble. This piece features a musical device of some kind as its focus. There will obviously be other musical components included within the piece as well, but the main element will be very apparent.2. ComposingWorksheets are provided to enable students to develop their own compositions based on the same focus as the performance piece. Elements of the performance piece are highlighted and short, developmental activities will lead to the students developing their own musical ideas.3. Understanding Summary worksheets are provided to enable students to demonstrate their understanding of the topic. There are two musical elements which appear in all pieces within this PCU series. They are dynamics and articulation. All performance pieces contain them and opportunity is provided to include them within the composing exercises as well.Printing and CopyingThe purchaser may print or copy all pages of this resource as required, but must not distribute to others. It is advised to produce resources for students as follows:* Print which ever parts are needed to facilitate a performance* Produce a booklet containing the title page, score and worksheets. The performance piece could also be used for the performing component of your examined course as well if appropriate.** Also look out for the other packs in the PCU Series which cover melody, rhythm, structure, texture and harmony. Multi-pack deals are also available. **

C Instrument - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1449537 By Lytingale. By Lois J Henrickson (Lytingale). Arranged by Lois J Henrickson (Lytingale). Christmas,Folk,Holiday,Singer/Songwriter,Spiritual. Lead Sheet / Fake Book. 3 pages. Lytingale Music #1029293. Published by Lytingale Music (A0.1449537). A non-exclusive song for the winter holidays that expresses the giving spirit of the season without referencing any specific religion. (OK, there's a musical nod to Silent Night.) My challenge to myself was to write a spiritual holiday song without ever mentioning Christmas... to celebrate EVERY baby's birth and the season of giving. The song is available for Solo voice, SSA choir with solos, SSA (no solos), and optional Violin or Flute part. Formats: with written piano part (simple - please embellish!) or Lead Sheet (melody, words, chord names - less pages to print!), lead sheet for optional Violin or Flute. Whew!Lyrics:All I Really Want is Peace on Earth(c)2017 Lois J Henrickson (Lytingale) When they ask me what I wish forOn this holy holiday,I can only think of all the waysThe world has lost its way.And I hope that we will see the LightIn every baby’s birth,And expand our love to everyone. All I really want is peace on earth, peace on earth.Yesterday I saw an angel. She was teaching kids to read. And another one gave up his coatFor somebody in need.Oh, it’s all around the cityAnd in every single town,Lots of people helping people. All they really want is peace on earth, peace on earth. And if you search the whole world over,This is what you’ll see:People just want to take care of their family. And when we realize our differences areReally very small,Every person is a part of us all. Everybody has a purpose,Their place is guaranteed.Doesn’t matter what they look like,Or what holy books they read.Oh, we all belong togetherIn one caring family. We are here to love each other. All we really want is peace on earth,Peace on earth,Sweet peace on earth,Peace.

C Instrument - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1097054 Composed by Frank Meyer. A Cappella,Christian,Praise & Worship,Religious,Spiritual. Lead Sheet / Fake Book. 1 pages. Frank Meyer #701008. Published by Frank Meyer (A0.1097054). Since the year 1984 many people meet at the end of the year in Obermarchtal at the Danube/Donau to sing and make music together. Towards the end of the year 2020 it became very clear that the Corona virus would make it impossible to meet first time since more than 35 years. When I realized that, some words an a melody came to my mind and I wrote this canon for the participants of the Neustifter Musikwoche (www.neustifter-musikwochen.de). We met in some video conferences, talked and had fun in spite of the situation. And I gave this song to the participants to sing it and record the own singing. You can hear and see the result in the youtube channel form the Neustifter Musikwochen. Faith, hope an love are the them of the song, according to 1Kor 13,13. Its intention is not to lose hope and confidence, not even in times like these. Also in 2021 we could not meet singing together in Obermarchtal. But were looking forward hopefully. Note: The edition from 2021 published her contains a few small changes compared to the recording from 2020. ...... Jazz Ensemble Jazz Ensemble - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1308790 Composed by Charles Tenet. Arranged by Tobi Crawford. Jazz. Set of parts. 10 pages. Tobi Crawford #898036. Published by Tobi Crawford (A0.1308790). *THIS ACCOMPANIES THE VOCAL ARRANGEMENT* This arrangement came to me over a number of weeks in a very organic way that began with the ostinato piano figure that prevails throughout the piece. I began playing it unattached to any tune and I just liked the way the line descended in the left hand and how I had to find voicings in the right hand that made harmonic sense – like a puzzle. As I was playing around with this puzzle, thoughts of my father were swirling around in my head – I was at the end of a 4 year period of separation from my parents owing to the fact that I’m a Canadian expat living in the US and the borders were closed for a long time because of Covid, and then I had work visa issues and my parents were getting older before my eyes. They were also losing friends to cancer and other ailments and my dad, in particular, had experienced the loss of many close family members and friends during our separation and it was taking a toll. One day I sat down and played the now familiar-to-me ostinato but randomly I started to sing “Beyond the Sea†over it and it fit perfectly. I thought it a happy coincidence. As the days went on I committed to putting my ostinato with Beyond the Sea and the lyrics started to seep into my brain. I have, of course, heard these lyrics many times before, (who hasn’t seen Finding Nemo?) but the lyrics didn’t mean what I thought they meant… They’re NOT about the ocean, they are about my dad!!! Well, kind of… I realized, through careful reflection and by slowing the words down, that the lyrics are talking about a person in heaven who is patiently waiting for their partner to join them. Somewhere beyond the seaShe’s there watching for me…It’s far beyond the starsIt’s near beyond the moon And the lyrics end with them meeting, “We’ll meet beyond the shore, we’ll kiss just like before,†and the song ends with: “and never again I’ll go sailing.†It’s like the big bang went off in my head about why all these thoughts of my dad, and his friends, and this arrangement, and what it all meant suddenly just MADE SENSE and I was able to start formulating a plan. Performance Suggestions: The improvisation solo in the middle should be free of any traditional “scat syllables†and should be more of a lament. Listen to singers like Aubrey Johnson improvise on ballads for inspiration. An idea for that improv section might be to have a male singer start the improv, then a female singer joins (as if together in heaven) then they sing letter F together (warning: will cause tears…). All solo sections do not have to be sung as written – soloists can take liberties with the melody as the spirit moves.

Instrumental Duet,Synthesizer,Vibraphone - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1235343 By Paul Emmett. By Paul Emmett. 21st Century,Contemporary. 8 pages. Paul Emmett #830880. Published by Paul Emmett (A0.1235343). Momentum takes us on a journey to explore the hidden potential of the fixed metallic bars of the vibraphone in a live electroacoustic performance. Composed for the extraordinarily talented multi-percussionist Rosie Clark, currently studying performance at the University of Nottingham, and in demand across the country with a variety of ensembles and collaborating with Rosie to bring this composition to life has been an exciting and educational experience. The inspiration for Momentum came while watching a video of the Frankfurt based percussionist, composer, and lecturer, Max Gaertner. In the footage, Gaertner demonstrated the art of pitch bending a note on a vibraphone, and in that moment the idea for this composition was born.In Momentum, we delve into the intriguing concept that seemingly static metallic bars possess the ability to move and transform within this musical context. This can occur either through the physical manipulation of the performer, or by the technical wizardry of the technician. These bars which are often viewed as fixed entities thus reveal their hidden dynamism, allowing for a world of musical possibilities.Enhancing this idea of motion, Momentum incorporates a further extended technique of bowing causing the bars to resonate with an ethereal vibrancy. Pairing this effect with spectral effects through plugins by Michael Norris in Ableton Live amplify the kinetic energy of the composition. The performer also moves a handheld microphone over the bars, capturing their sounds in real-time motion.Paul Emmett - May 2023.

Composed by Various. Arranged by Colin Kirkpatrick. Christian, Praise & Worship, General Worship, Christmas. Score, Set of Parts. 125 pages. Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications
Your Favorite Christmas Hymns and Carols for Wind Instruments<br> Arranged by Colin Kirkpatrick<br> Book 1<br> <br> This essential collection may be all you ever need for your wind instruments at Christmas. It's a bargain price too! The arrangements are intended either as stand-alone pieces that could be used as interludes in a service, or they could be used to accompany solo, choral or congregational singing.<br> <br> The publication consists of a four-staff score in concert pitch together with fourteen separate parts in various transpositions. There is also a fairly easy optional keyboard part. These four-part arrangements use flexible instrumentation so that you can exercise considerable control over the instrumental voicing. You can also create interesting instrumental tone colour by omitting groups of instruments. This can be achieved with the aid of a pencil. If the ensemble is large enough you could omit brass instruments in the quieter sections, or use a solo trumpet against a woodwind background. There are endless possibilities. You can hear the effect of omitting sections in the audio samples. The arrangements could therefore be played by brass quartet, woodwind quartet, saxophone quartet or virtually any combination of wind instruments. Using the piano part (which has been kept as simple as possible) the arrangements could also be used as solos or duets, depending of what instruments are available. Parts 1 and 2 in C have been printed an octave higher than the pitch shown in the score because the parts invariably are too low for flute or oboe. All the scores and parts are contained in a single125-page PDF file.<br> <br> The publication consists of four-stave scores for each hymn and carol plus:<br> <br> 1. Part 1 in B flat (clarinet, trumpet, cornet, soprano sax);<br> <br> 2. Part 1 in C (8ve higher for piccolo, flute, oboe);<br> <br> 3. Part 1 in E flat (alto saxophone, E flat clarinet);<br> <br> 4. Part 3 in B flat (tenor saxophone, B flat baritone);<br> <br> 8. Part 3 in C (bass clef for trombone, bassoon);<br> <br> 9. Part 3 in E flat (E flat tenor horn, alto saxophone, alto clarinet);<br> <br> 10. Part 3 in F (French horn in F);<br> <br> 11. Part 3a in B flat (8ve below score pitch for 3rd clarinet);<br> <br> 12. Piano and orchestra - difficult - Digital Download For piano and orchestra. Composed by Gyorgy Ligeti (1923-2006). This edition: solo part. Downloadable. Duration 24 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q53630. Published by Schott Music - Digital
I composed the Piano Concerto in two stages: the first three movements during the years 1985-86, the next two in 1987, the final autograph of the last movement was ready by January, 1988. The concerto is dedicated to the American conductor Mario di Bonaventura. . The markings of the movements are the following: . 1. Vivace molto ritmico e preciso . 2. Lento e deserto . 3. Vivace cantabile . 4. Allegro risoluto . 5. Presto luminoso. The first performance of the three-movement Concerto was on October 23rd, 1986 in Graz. Mario di Bonaventura conducted while his brother, Anthony di Bonaventura, was the soloist. Two days later the performance was repeated in the Vienna Konzerthaus. After hearing the work twice, I came to the conclusion that the third movement is not an adequate finale. my feeling of form demanded continuation, a supplement. That led to the composing of the next two movements. The premiere of the whole cycle took place on February 29th, 1988, in the Vienna Konzerthaus with the same conductor and the same pianist. . The orchestra consisted of the following: flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn, trumpet, tenor trombone, percussion and strings. The flautist also plays the piccoIo, the clarinetist, the alto ocarina. The percussion is made up of diverse instruments, which one musician-virtuoso can play. It is more practical, however, if two or three musicians share the instruments. Besides traditional instruments the percussion part calls also for two simple wind instruments: the swanee whistle and the harmonica. The string instrument parts (two violins, viola, cello and doubles bass) can be performed soloistic since they do not contain divisi. For balance, however, the ensemble playing is recommended, for example 6-8 first violins, 6-8 second, 4-6 violas, 4-6 cellos, 3-4 double basses. . In the Piano Concerto I realized new concepts of harmony and rhythm. . The first movement is entirely written in bimetry: simultaneously 12/8 and 4/4 (8/8). This relates to the known triplet on a doule relation and in itself is nothing new. Because, however, I articulate 12 triola and 8 duola pulses, an entangled, up till now unheard kind of polymetry is created. The rhythm is additionally complicated because of asymmetric groupings inside two speed layers, which means accents are asymmetrically distributed. These groups, as in the talea technique, have a fixed, continuously repeating rhythmic structures of varying lengths in speed layers of 12/8 and 4/4. This means that the repeating pattern in the 12/8 level and the pattern in the 4/4 level do not coincide and continuously give a kaleidoscope of renewing combinations. . In our perception we quickly resign from following particular rhythmical successions and that what is going on in time appears for us as something static, resting. This music, if it is played properly, in the right tempo and with the right accents inside particular layers, after a certain time rises, as it were, as a plane after taking off: the rhythmic action, too complex to be able to follow in detail, begins flying. This diffusion of individual structures into a different global structure is one of my basic compositional concepts: from the end of the fifties, from the orchestral works Apparitions and Atmospheres I continuously have been looking for new ways of resolving this basic question. The harmony of the first movement is based on mixtures, hence on the parallel leading of voices. This technique is used here in a rather simple form. later in the fourth movement it will be considerably developed. . The second movement (the only slow one amongst five movements) also has a talea type of structure, it is however much simpler rhythmically, because it contains only one speed layer. The melody is consisted in the development of a rigorous interval mode in which two minor seconds and one major second alternate therefore nine notes inside an octave. This mode is transposed into different degrees and it also determines the harmony of the movement. however, in closing episode in the piano part there is a combination of diatonics (white keys) and pentatonics (black keys) led in brilliant, sparkling quasimixtures, while the orchestra continues to play in the nine tone mode. . In this movement I used isolated sounds and extreme registers (piccolo in a very low register, bassoon in a very high register, canons played by the swanee whistle, the alto ocarina and brass with a harmon-mute' damper, cutting sound combinations of the piccolo, clarinet and oboe in an extremely high register, also alternating of a whistle-siren and xylophone). The third movement also has one speed layer and because of this it appears as simpler than the first, but actually the rhythm is very complicated in a different way here. Above the uninterrupted, fast and regular basic pulse, thanks to the asymmetric distribution of accents, different types of hemiolas and inherent melodical patterns appear (the term was coined by Gerhard Kubik in relation to central African music). If this movement is played with the adequate speed and with very clear accentuation, illusory rhythmic-melodical figures appear. These figures are not played directly. they do not appear in the score, but exist only in our perception as a result of co-operation of different voices. . Already earlier I had experimented with illusory rhythmics, namely in Poeme symphonique for 100 metronomes (1962), in Continuum for harpsichord (1968), in Monument for two pianos (1976), and especially in the first and sixth piano etude Desordre and Automne a Varsovie (1985). . The third movement of the Piano Concerto is up to now the clearest example of illusory rhythmics and illusory melody. In intervallic and chordal structure this movement is based on alternation, and also inter-relation of various modal and quasi-equidistant harmony spaces. The tempered twelve-part division of the octave allows for diatonical and other modal interval successions, which are not equidistant, but are based on the alternation of major and minor seconds in different groups. The tempered system also allows for the use of the anhemitonic pentatonic scale (the black keys of the piano). From equidistant scales, therefore interval formations which are based on the division of an octave in equal distances, the twelve-tone tempered system allows only chromatics (only minor seconds) and the six-tone scale (the whole-tone: only major seconds). . Moreover, the division of the octave into four parts only minor thirds) and three parts (three major thirds) is possible. In several music cultures different equidistant divisions of an octave are accepted, for example, in the Javanese slendro into five parts, in Melanesia into seven parts, popular also in southeastern Asia, and apart from this, in southern Africa. This does not mean an exact equidistance: there is a certain tolerance for the inaccurateness of the interval tuning. . These exotic for us, Europeans, harmony and melody have attracted me for several years. However I did not want to re-tune the piano (microtone deviations appear in the concerto only in a few places in the horn and trombone parts led in natural tones). After the period of experimenting, I got to pseudo- or quasiequidistant intervals, which is neither whole-tone nor chromatic: in the twelve-tone system, two whole-tone scales are possible, shifted a minor second apart from each other. Therefore, I connect these two scales (or sound resources), and for example, places occur where the melodies and figurations in the piano part are created from both whole tone scales. in one band one six-tone sound resource is utilized, and in the other hand, the complementary. In this way whole-tonality and chromaticism mutually reduce themselves: a type of deformed equidistancism is formed, strangely brilliant and at the same time slanting. illusory harmony, indeed being created inside the tempered twelve-tone system, but in sound quality not belonging to it anymore. . The appearance of such slantedequidistant harmony fields alternating with modal fields and based on chords built on fifths (mainly in the piano part), complemented with mixtures built on fifths in the orchestra, gives this movement an individual, soft-metallic colour (a metallic sound resulting from harmonics). . The fourth movement was meant to be the central movement of the Concerto. Its melodc-rhythmic elements (embryos or fragments of motives) in themselves are simple. The movement also begins simply, with a succession of overlapping of these elements in the mixture type structures. Also here a kaleidoscope is created, due to a limited number of these elements - of these pebbles in the kaleidoscope - which continuously return in augmentations and diminutions. . Step by step, however, so that in the beginning we cannot hear it, a compiled rhythmic organization of the talea type gradually comes into daylight, based on the simultaneity of two mutually shifted to each other speed layers (also triplet and duoles, however, with different asymmetric structures than in the first movement). While longer rests are gradually filled in with motive fragments, we slowly come to the conclusion that we have found ourselves inside a rhythmic-melodical whirl: without change in tempo, only through increasing the density of the musical events, a rotation is created in the stream of successive and compiled, augmented and diminished motive fragments, and increasing the density suggests acceleration. . Thanks to the periodical structure of the composition, always new but however of the same (all the motivic cells are similar to earlier ones but none of them are exactly repeated. the general structure is therefore self-similar), an impression is created of a gigantic, indissoluble network. Also, rhythmic structures at first hidden gradually begin to emerge, two independent speed layers with their various internal accentuations. . This great, self-similar whirl in a very indirect way relates to musical associations, which came to my mind while watching the graphic projection of the mathematical sets of Julia and of Mandelbrot made with the help of a computer. I saw these wonderful pictures of fractal creations, made by scientists from Brema, Peitgen and Richter, for the first time in 1984. From that time they have played a great role in my musical concepts. This does not mean, however, that composing the fourth movement I used mathematical methods or iterative calculus. indeed, I did use constructions which, however, are not based on mathematical thinking, but are rather craftman's constructions (in this respect, my attitude towards mathematics is similar to that of the graphic artist Maurits Escher). .I am concerned rather with intuitional, poetic, synesthetic correspondence, not on the scientific, but on the poetic level of thinking. . The fifth, very short Presto movement is harmonically very simple, but all the more complicated in its rhythmic structure: it is based on the further development of ''inherent patterns of the third movement. The quasi-equidistance system dominates harmonically and melodically in this movement, as in the third, alternating with harmonic fields, which are based on the division of the chromatic whole into diatonics and anhemitonic pentatonics. Polyrhythms and harmonic mixtures reach their greatest density, and at the same time this movement is strikingly light, enlightened with very bright colours: at first it seems chaotic, but after listening to it for a few times it is easy to grasp its content: many autonomous but self-similar figures which crossing themselves. . I present my artistic credo in the Piano Concerto: I demonstrate my independence from criteria of the traditional avantgarde, as well as the fashionable postmodernism. Musical illusions which I consider to be also so important are not a goal in itself for me, but a foundation for my aesthetical attitude. I prefer musical forms which have a more object-like than processual character. Music as frozen time, as an object in imaginary space evoked by music in our imagination, as a creation which really develops in time, but in imagination it exists simultaneously in all its moments. The spell of time, the enduring its passing by, closing it in a moment of the present is my main intention as a composer. . (Gyorgy Ligeti)

B-Flat Bass Clarinet,Instrumental Duet,Marimba - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1404871 Composed by Terry Vosbein. 21st Century,Chamber,Classical. 16 pages. Max Frank Music #987900. Published by Max Frank Music (A0.1404871). The is ethereal 7-minute duet for bass clarient is a perfect showacse for these less-used instruments.PROGRAM NOTESDeep grief. Profound sadness. Feelings so immense that words do them no justice. It is at such junctures that artists often turn to abstract creative endeavors to facilitate process- ing the pain. There is frequently no option. As with the navigation of grief, this music has hopeful and even joyous moments. But despair is never far from the surface.Throughout the Lament the bass clarinet takes on the role of the mourner. The melodic lines are at times sad, confused, hopeful, prayerful, or even playful. There is a continuous sense of searching, for answers, for reasons, for a resolution that can never be. The marimba offers solace, empathy, compassion, and distraction to the dolorous melody.A tone of sorrow is established by the marimba with its evocative minor key introduction. The aria begins as the bass clarinet presents a plaintive expression of the main melody. Soon, a rhythmic mood settles in, the bass clarinet yearning and searching for answers, as the marimba offers support with jazz inspired harmonies. There are hints of melancholia, of nostalgia, even a very brief waltz, as the feelings spin freely. The tale ends as it begins, with a return to the opening sound world. A return to plainly stated sorrow, unadorned, pure, simple. After a final tender plea, bringing the bass clarinet quietly to its highest range, it descends to the depths, where it hoovers, pondering.PERFORMANCE NOTESTempi and phrasing are subject to the performersâ?? musical conception. Interpret this as one would Brahms: molto espressivo, and highly romantic.
