Published by Mark O'Connor Musik International (A0.861927). The American Seasons (score – violin and string orchestra) MO148AScore (parts available)Music by Mark O’Connor99 pages - 38:00 minutes in length The American Seasons(Seasons Of An American Life)The American Seasons (Seasons Of An American Life) is a concerto for Violin And Chamber Orchestra. Composed in 1999, the music celebrates the various stages of an American life at the waking of the 21st century. Constructed in four movements and representing four stages of life, birth, adolescence, maturity and old age, the music also pays homage to Shakespeare's Seasons Of Man His acts being seven ages, incorporated throughout the work.Spring introduces the ideas of birth and infancy. After the principal theme has been stated, there is a violin cadenza encountering all twelve major keys and a 13/8 time signature representing the ancient golden ratio. These elements recall birth with all the possibilities a new life offers. Ending the movement, the principal theme is repeated with more complexity... as if posing life's questions.Summer represents the excitement and bravado of youthful adolescence and young adulthood. For the style of this movement I use a happy-go-lucky Blues voice which melds into Swing. I identify swing rhythm in all of 20th century American music culture as a common thread that runs through Ragtime through Rock and Roll on to Rap. Swing means testing the waters and pushing the envelope for lovers and soldiers.Fall is the slow movement symbolizing the wisdom of maturity. It is a peaceful theme with nostalgic strokes. It is a time for sincere reflection and enjoying ones accomplishments in life.Winter embodies the complexities and knowledge of an older person and that of a dying person. The movement begins with the principal them from Spring, but with a dissonance that emanates from a lifetime full of emotions and responsibilities. In the middle of the movement is a transition to an old world. I use my personal ancestry from Ireland as a foundation from which to rediscover one's lineage and explore the meaning and value of a cultural legacy. The exploration evolves into a four- and five-part fugue with a reel, jig, air, countered bass and the motif from the principal theme. All these elements, dances and melodies appear simultaneously and converge to form a unique insight to life's consequences from a historical perspective. Following the fugue, the principal theme finds its way back in. It sounds much as it did at birth. In the end, the solo violin cadenza carries the last earthly breaths before the violin and orchestra once again join in harmony to focus on a new life being transformed somewhere else. Life's four seasons in perpetuity. Original music printed from the composer’s manuscripts.Music editing, copying and engraving by Mark O’Connorusing Finale on Apple Macintosh 1999 Composed by Mark O’ConnorCommissioned by the Troy Savings Bank Concert Hall for their 2000 Celebration Can be heard on American Seasons Sony Classical and The Essential Mark O’Connor Sony ClassicalMark O’Connor - violin, Metamorphosen Chamber Orchestra, Scott Yoo Catalogue Number MO148ACopyright © 1999 by Mark O’Connor Music International For more information on violinist and composer Mark O'Connor, O’Connor String Camps, Touring Ensembles, Discography, Bio, Repertoire and more, please visitwww.markoconnor.com For information on the O’Connor Method – instructional book series for vi.

Flute Choir,Woodwind Ensemble Flute - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1215191 Composed by Grant Horsley. Contest,Festival,Folk,Latin,Multicultural,Patriotic,World. 34 pages. Grant Horsley #812063. Published by Grant Horsley (A0.1215191). Jacaranda is a very tall tree with a purple bloom which is native to South America. This tree lines the streets of Buenos Aires which is considered by many to be the birthplace of the Argentinian Tango. This original Tango has two main sections- a passionate and animated section to begin with which clearly states the rhythms associated with the Tango, followed by a contrasting more wistful romantic middle section, which has the Cuban habanera elements present, from which a Tango is derived. Then the piece returns to the first section taking it to a conclusionJacaranda is scored for 6 C flutes and is in the key of D minor (concert) with the middle section in D major. The range is around two octaves for all players, and I have tried to keep all parts interesting with shared moments of melodic and rhythmic interest. It also has wide dynamic contrasts and heavy accents, along with legato and staccato phrasing, all of which are effectively used in this genre. It is set to Intermediate level- it is 4 mins 40 in length and would make a lovely addition to any programme. The youtube link has the full score so you can assess suitability. Price is for the full score and all parts.NB There is also another Flute Choir version available (4 C flutes, Alto and Bass flute) as well as a Clarinet Choir version.

The Huron Carol — brass quintet

Brass Ensemble,Brass Quintet Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1147711 Composed by Traditional French Melody. Arranged by Todd Marchand. Christian,Christmas,Holiday,Sacred,Traditional. Score and parts. 16 pages. Con Spirito Music #747929. Published by Con Spirito Music (A0.1147711). “The Huron Carol†is the popular name for a Christmas song written in the language of the Wendat, an indigenous people of Canada — their name meaning “people of the island†or “dwellers on a peninsula†— nicknamed “Huron†(“boar's headâ€) by French explorers and traders due to the bristly hairstyle of Wendat men.The song began as a tool for teaching and converting the Wendat to Christianity, and it was likely written in the early 1640s by the French Jesuit missionary, Jean de Brébeuf. In Wendat, the song is titled “Jesous Ahatonnia,†which means “Jesus is Born.†The song's melody is based on a traditional French folk song, “Une Jeune Pucelle†(“A Young Maidâ€). Jean de Brébeuf’s lyrics present the Nativity story using images and ideas that would have been familiar to the Wendat. Angels are “spirits†and “sky peopleâ€; the Magi (wise men) are “elders,†and as an act of reverence they oil Jesus’ scalp, a practice Wendat people would have recognized. Today, “The Huron Carol's†most well-known lyrics, beginning “'Twas in the moon of winter-time,†were written by Canadian poet Jesse Middleton and published in 1927 in a small illustrated book titled “The First Canadian Christmas Carol.â€Middleton’s text is not a translation, but a complete rewriting of “Jesous Ahatonnia†for English speakers, and bears almost no relation to the original Wendat text. Middleton relied on stereotypes, critics say, painting a picture of an indigenous Nativity in a “lodge of broken bark,†with “hunter braves†replacing shepherds, and “gifts of fur and beaver pelt†delivered by “chiefs from far.†Still, the carol has long been popular, perhaps in part due to its refrain, “Jesus your King is born, Jesus is born. In excelsis gloria!†and its pairing with the easily singable “Une Jeune Pucelle†tune. This arrangement for brass quintet takes a contemplative, lyrical approach, featuring rich harmonies to the chant-like tune and contrasts in dynamics and tempo that evoke both the quiet peace and solemnity accompanying the birth of Christ.©Copyright 2022 Todd Marchand / Con Spirito Music (ASCAP). Jack's Journey - A Musical inspired by the boyhood adventures of CS Lewis (lyrics by Adeline Dinsmor

Large Ensemble,Strings Piano,Vocal,Voice - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.739501 Composed by David Catherwood. Broadway,Children,Musical/Show. Score. 323 pages. Opus 3 Music #6051989. Published by Opus 3 Music (A0.739501). A great story about one of the 20th century’s greatest storytellers. Carefully researched, yet full of fun, this entertaining musical tells the story of the early part of CS Lewis' life from the time of his mother's death in 1908 until his arrival as a student at Oxford in 1916. (Throughout his life CS Lewis was always known as Jack) This new work was premiered at the end of 2019 at the annual CS Lewis Festival held in Ireland. (CS Lewis’ birthplace) It proved to be a great success and was very enthusiastically received. Synopsis Jack’s Journey is a whimsical re-imagining of the childhood journeys of CS Lewis - each of the seven songs representing a stop along the way to his eventual career as the writer of the Narnia Chronicles. The story is told through music relating his memories and significant episodes from his schooldays up to his entry into Oxford. Living almost entirely in his imagination as a small boy, the seeds of the world of Narnia are already beginning to grow in his writing and drawings. Little Lea, his childhood home, provides the setting for the early scenes. Following the death of his mother the young Jack has his first experience of school and England. He endures with fortitude the harsh regime of boarding school and begins to recognise the value of friendship, mutual support and the courage that children can show in adversity. He returns to Ireland and to Campbell College – a much more positive experience. Illness brings his attendance at Campbell to an end. Returning to Little Lea, Jack imagines the world of fairies and dwarves, a world beyond our own. He returns to school in England and comes under the influence of a variety of teachers. Expelled from Malvern, Jack next falls under the influence of his great mentor, Professor Kirkpatrick – the model for the Professor of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Jack’s Journey concludes with the anticipated arrival of a great hero, the hero of the first of the Narnian Chronicles, Aslan, the lion. ‘Jack’s Journey’ gives opportunity for young actors, (supported if desired by adults, taking the parts of the grown-ups.) There are short dramatic scenes, plenty of chorus work, opportunity for choreography and many solo spots for vocalists in the songs which are milestones in the story. List of Songs (the sample pages and mp3 file gives a chance to see and hear the first page of most of the songs) 1 Soft through the window 2 Kingdom of Mourne 3 Little Lea 4 Campbell Days - Boy to the left, Boy to the right 5 The Dandy's song 6 The Scholar's song 7 Strength and honour As will be evident from the above, there is plenty of flexibility regarding the scale of the performance. ‘Jack’s Journey’ may be staged using relatively modest outlay – for example, the premiere did not have a set because the venue for the performance was an actual railway station! The piece certainly allows for imaginative approaches to design and staging. In terms of the additional challenges presented by 2020 the length of the musical at 40 minutes helps in delivering a shorter theatrical experience. Also, the fully digital download of all performing materials allows for distribution via email Indeed the whole show could be effectively recorded and presented online as well as in person.

The American Seasons (double basses part – violin and string orchestra) MO148HDouble Basses Part (score and parts available)Music by Mark O’Connor40 pages - 38:00 minutes in length The American Seasons(Seasons Of An American Life)The American Seasons (Seasons Of An American Life) is a concerto for Violin And Chamber Orchestra.
