Although an intermezzo may be found between the acts of a play or an opera, it may also be an independent work. These five intermezzi each have a different character: dramatic, energetic, lyrical, expressive, and emphatic. The movements are Allegro con brio, Lento espressivo, Allegro ritmico, Adagio espressivo, and Allegro appassionato. They may be played individually or in smaller groups.
