The Spanish composer guitarist teacher and priest Gaspar Sanz (1640-1710) was one of the leading proponents of the Baroque Guitar. He is best known for his three pedagogical works for the instrument that are still used today by scholars and academics. The collection of four Danzas Cervantinas was written in 1674 in homage to the Spanish writer Miguel de Cervantes (1547-1616) who is famed across the world as the writer of Don Quixote. They have been edited and arranged for the modern instrument by Regino Sainz de la Maza (1896-1981) a virtuosic guitarist and composer who toured all across the world.
