In Praise of Mary is a cantata in six short movements written for the 1955 Three Choirs Festival. It is scored for Soprano solo SATB chorus and Orchestra. It forms the best-known work of the British composer organist and scholar Geoffrey Bush (1920-1998) a lifelong friend of John Ireland and an ardent champion of English music. In Praise of Mary was based on various texts adoring Mary the Mother of Jesus. It is noted for its fresh textures lyrical melodies and beautiful craftsmanship making it as much a pleasure to sing as it is to listen to. Dedicated to the composer's wife.
