Dvorak's Klid ("Silent Woods") was originally composed as one of a set of pieces for piano four-hands (1883-84), and later transcribed by the composer for 'cello and orchestra (1893). In this transcription for bass clarinet and piano, the work makes an excellent choice for contest, audition, or recital. This single-movement work begins with a beautiful melody which is exchanged between soloist and accompanist. A middle section in the relative minor key reaches a dramatic climax before returning to the major key and melody of the opening.
