Philip Wilby (b.1949) is a Yorkshire-based contemporary composer. Since 1990 he has been best known for his extensive and highly successful Brass Band repertoire while maintaining a steady output of liturgical andchoral work. His delightful carol The Word Made Flesh was written in 1987 for the choir of Bradford Cathedral. The lyrics are taken from the poem by Ben Jonson (c.1573-1637) I Sing The Birth Was BornTonight (c.1600 but published posthumously) which reflects on the nativity scene. The carol is scored for SATB with an organ accompaniment and is of approx. 3 minutes duration.
