Die Werke sind keine trockenen Fingerübungen, sondern kleine, abgerundete Kompositionen. Sie geben Hilfe zur Lösung technischer Probleme jeglicher Art, wenn sie die fleißigen Schüler in einem Jahr durchspielen. Am Ende des Bandes wurde als Zugabe ein paar längeren Etüden Platz eingeräumt, welche auch als Vortragstücke gespielt werden können.
