This is the 'Swan Theme', (originally the famous oboe solo) from Tchaikovsky's well-loved ballet, as the hero Siegfried first sees the swan Odette (who is of course really a princess), and the two fall in love. The melody is shared here between the two flutes, and later passed on to the alto as the dramatic tension rises.
