Les instruments LP ont figuré dans des milliers d'enregistrements parmi les plus célèbres au monde, allant de la salsa au rock. La gamme de produits LP comprend des congas, des bongos, des cloches, des timbales, des cajons, des shakers et des instruments à effet. En fait, LP est un peu comme un élément essentiel dans énormément de genres musicaux. Il est presque impossible d'allumer une radio ou d'écouter une playlist sans entendre un instrument LP.En 1956, Martin Cohen, un jeune ingénieur en mécanique issu du Bronx, passe devant le fameux club de jazz Birdland à New York. Il entre et se retrouve immédiatement captivé par le son et l'énergie du Jazz Latin. Martin a tellement été touché par cette musique qu'il a eu envie d'avoir ses propres bongos. Malheureusement, à causes des embargos commerciaux, les bongos cubains de grande qualité étaient introuvables aux Etats-Unis. Alors Martin s'est décidé à utiliser ses compétences en ingénierie afin de les fabriquer lui-même. En 1964, Martin Cohen fonde Latin Percussion et propose aux musiciens ses bongos, cloches et autres instruments, livrés dans des sacs en papier marron. Martin a utilisé ce lien étroit qu'il avait avec les artistes de la scène latine. Ceci a grandement contribué au succès de la marque. Aujourd'hui encore ce lien fait partie de la philosophie de la marque : les besoins des musiciens professionnels sont une priorité.
