Model Hugh Tracey Kalimba Treble 17 Notes Box-Resonator Pickup - Tuning: standard G Major - Body: box made of Kiaat (native African hardwood) - Tines : 17 spring steel tines - Pickup included - jack 6.3mm - Holes in the back for vibrato effect - Dimension: 18 x 13 x 3.5cm Kalimba is the modern version of the traditional African Mbira instrument. The Kalimba has been developed and invented by Hugh Tracey (ethnomusicologist specialised in Central and Southern African music). It is manufactured since 1954 by AMI (African Musical Instrument), company founded by Hugh Tracey and his son. Tuning can be modified by moving slightly the tines. It is recommended not to modify the tuning more than a semitone away from its original position. Handmade and tuned by artisans in South-Africa
