Brand: Warm AudioDescription from Woodbrass : Since the launch of the WA-87 in 2016, Warm Audio has perfected their microphone manufacturing technique, and they've proven they can exceed expectations at an affordable price. This led them to see how to improve the WA-87 without increasing the price, and the result is the WA-87 R2 (revision 2). Warm Audio has drawn on its experience recreating vintage microphones over the past 5 years to get even closer to the sound and feel of the '60s original that we all love. The WA-87 is based on the classic '60s circuit which is widely regarded as one of the best studio microphones ever made. Warm Audio has spent a considerable amount of time getting even closer to vintage sound. The WA-87 R2 uses high-end components like the Fairchild NOS transistor and Nichicon and Wima polystyrene and film capacitors. The new version of the Cinemag USA custom transformer improves the frequency response and slightly increases the output level. The capsule used is identical to that used in the WA-87 to the exact specifications of the vintage one. The result is incredible sonic precision, faithfully reproducing the most widely used studio microphone in recording history. Like the vintage version, the WA-87 R2 excels on all registers. The three polar patterns (cardioid, omni, figure 8) allow you to cover a wide variety of applications, and an 80Hz high pass filter reduces rumble in the bass if needed. The switchable -10dB attenuator comes in handy when it comes to recording extremely powerful instruments and not overloading the internal electronics. The WA-87 R2 now has a thicker, stronger, wider brass body and the new protective grille offers more space around the capsule for a more pleasant sound signature. No matter what other microphones you have, the WA-87 R2 will become your favorite microphone.
