The full name of the work is 'Canon and Gigue for 3 violins and basso continuo', the entire work is in the key of D major. The music was forgotten for many centuries and only rediscovered in the 20th century. The music became popular after it was published in 1919. It is frequently used for wedding music, and is often included on classical music compilations along with other famous works such as Bach's 'Air on the G String'.
