He inherited a tendency to coughs and fevers and suffered with illness through much of his childhood. The family profession was the construction of lighthouses, Stevenson diverted from this when he took an interest in the literary profession: his first publication was "The Pentland Rising: A Page of History, 1666" which was completed when he was only sixteen years of age. Stevenson was lucky to have a supportive father who himself an amateur author. His most famous works include Treasure Island, Kidnapped, and Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. |
