Edward H. Thorne (1834 - 1916)

Edward Henry Thorne, F.R.C.O. was born in Dorset in 1834. He learned music under George Elvey at Chapel Royal. He became Organist of Henley Parish Church at the age of 19. Thorne's period at Chichester Cathedral included the reopening of the Cathedralwith its rebuilt spire and crossing; his anthem, 'I was glad', was composed for the special service which marked that occasion.
