One of the most important Brazilian guitarists of the century 20. His records are fundamental to the history of the instrument, as always showed different repertoire of any guitarist. Geraldo Ribeiro is also important for developing a classic repertoire for the Brazilian viola, playing pieces and transcriptions such as Theodoro Nogueira, and has released a little-known repertoire of world classical repertoire.
Son of farmers Onofre Ribeiro da Silva and Maria Lopes da Silva, Geraldo Ribeiro da Silva was born in the New World, in the backlands of Bahia, near the northern part of the Chapada Diamantina. Wunderkind, began in music as an autodidact, through methods viola. The father had gotten a guitar and other instruments such as harmonica, and a record player with 45 discs, including a Mozart Bicalho. From there the interest of the boy the guitar was consolidated.
It moved too young to Assisi, in São Paulo, where he began to study theory, sight-singing and other activities with the Augusto Matias band conductor, circa 1952. Three years later, went to São Paulo, when he had lessons with one of the busiest capital of guitar teachers: Oscar Magellanic War.
